With a deep breath, he began speaking: "Bill, you get the Beverly Hills houses. Mary, the offices in the Center Center are yours. Debra, the apartments over the L.A. Plaza are all yours. And my dear wife, you take all the residential buildings near downtown." The nurse, wide-eyed, said to wife, "Wow, your husband must have been an incredible man to amass so much Los Angeles property to leave behind." The wife sighed and replied, "What property? The guy had a paper route!" ***** A high school multiple choice exam required only Yes or No answers. One of the students taking the test flips a coin and marks his answers based on how it lands. The teacher is clearly amused but doesn't say anything thinking that the student will be done soon. An hour goes by, and everybody is finished except for the kid who is still flipping the coin. The teacher approaches him, and asks: "How come you're not done yet?" "The student replies: "I'm double checking my answers." Drink of the Night ![]() In the United States, typical Oktoberfest beers are most similar to a Märzen, which is an amber lager that’s brewed in spring and aged until fall. These use caramel malts that lead to beers on the sweeter, more full-bodied side of lager styles. It’s also the style that was served in Munich up until the 1970s. *** Munich’s Oktoberfest beers have changed more than once over the centuries. The first Oktoberfest beers were closer to a Dunkel, which is a dark lager. In the 1870s, paler malts became more common, and the Märzen was most typical. A century later, it lightened even more to the golden Festbiers served at the festival today. Officially speaking, there is actually a very limited number of true Oktoberfest beers, despite what store shelves may lead on. In the European Union, “Oktoberfestbier” has protected geographical indication status earned in 2022 that specifies a narrow range of original gravity, color, bitterness and alcohol content. Additionally, only Munich breweries can market as an “Oktoberfestbier.”Much more at the link! What are your favorite Oktoberfest beers here in the States? The suspect, identified as Marcus Armstrong, 35, attempted to rob two people, a man and a woman, outside of a Norristown home, according to Norristown police. Police told ABC News' Philadelphia station WPVI that Armstrong forced his way into the Norristown home, where he encountered the male victim armed with a samurai sword. Police followed a trail of blood dotted with evidence from the crime scene to where they found Armstrong, authorities said. He was found by police with a severe cut. Club ONT Department of the Dodo Apparently a company called Colossal Biosciences located in Dallas is working to bring the back the Dodo bird. Colossal Advances Dodo De-Extinction with Significant, World’s First Breakthrough in Pigeon PGCs and Secures an Additional $120M in Funding for Species Expansion [T]he funding allows for the expansion of Colossal's Avian Genetics Group who also have established a flock of gene-edited chickens that will serve as potential surrogates for dodos and other endangered bird species and generated new genomic resources for exotic and endangered pigeons that will facilitate identification of editing priorities for the dodo de-extinction project. These advances significantly accelerate progress toward dodo de-extinction and broaden tools for advancing biodiversity conservation for birds. The advances Colossal has made now extend avian PGC culture technology beyond chicken and geese, opening a new frontier in avian reproductive science. Colossal has also announced the formation of the Mauritius Dodo Advisory Committee, a board of qualified individuals with deep connections to the country's culture. The experts will continue to provide input on Colossal’s local conservation efforts and aid in the development of a dodo rewilding program in Mauritius. What could possibly go wrong? Nice to know that all the other world's problems have been solved and we have plenty of money available to resurrect a flightless bird. Lutkenhaus booked his worlds slot by finishing second to Donavan Brazier in the U.S. qualifiers last month, clocking a scarcely credible 1:42.27 in the process. That took more than three seconds off his personal best and was more than a second faster than the previous under-18 world best set by Kenya’s Timothy Kitum at the 2012 Olympics. About 30% of the beer sold in Deutschland is Hefe Weissen, made with Wheat instead of Barley. I love me some Pils, Dunkel, etc but a fresh Hefe on tap is unbelievably good. Even people who say they don’t like beer will usually like them. It seems to have a calming effect on people, where barley based brews tend to rile up the baser humors and phlogistin.
They drink a lot of Wine in the south too. Bavaria is sort of the Texas of Germany. The way it was explained to me, beer drinkers are kind of looked down upon, a bit low class, like the way some might look at Bikers. Scooter trash Harley riders. At a Trade Show in Berlin about 30 something years ago for a new product launch.
About 10:20 Reinhard comes up to me and ask can I life 25 kg and I say sure. So he has me take off my suit coat and follow him. It is to a beer truck and they load a keg of maybe 7 or 8 gallons on my shoulder. I haul back to the booth. At about 10:50 the biermeister comes to our booth and taps the keg. We did that every day for 4 days. It was a local Alt, meaning old beer that was much like a shiner bock with less carbonation and sweeter. This evening on the way to dinner we spotted a couple of classic cars. One was an early Fifties Cadillac, before the fins took over, in bronze and white with a Continental kit on the back. The other had a license reading simply "Street Rod," a glossy lead-gray pre-war coupe with chrome wheels and no badging at all. Something about the chromed grill made me think of the 1939-40 Ford coupes, the AMT 1/25 scale models of which I built and customized so many of during my pre-teen and early teen years.
The mention of "Ford" made me think of that. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at September 20, 2025 10:13 PM (omVj0) 33

N.b. I’ve never had a decent domestic brewed Hefe unless ai brewed it myself, they are all nasty and not even remotely drinkable. Thankfully Tucher and Weiheinstephan and others import 1/2 liter bottles that are pretfy decent exemplars of the brew. I was stationed at Katterbach airfield, and the local Hefe was Lichtenauer (GIs termed it “Lick the Schnauser) and was fantastic.
Happy hour at a gasthaus pre-Euro the beer was inexpensive, under a dollar in American money. 8 bucks for a case of 20 delivered. But on tap it was really good. Huge cloud of foam, pale cloudy amber, slightly bitter but a kind of banana clove aftertaste. Posted by: Common Tater at September 20, 2025 10:18 PM (QVTZe) 46

Hey, guys - I have an unusual request for those of you who will be attending the Texas MoMe.
There is a bakery in Fort Worth called The Swiss Pastry Shop which makes a killer cake that I want to bring to share with everyone - this is a uniquely FTW confection. Paul and I will be coming down on Thursday night with a couple of half-sheet cakes in tow. Unfortunately, the refrigerator in our hotel room will not be large enough to hold them, and there isn't going to be any extra space at the ranch. We will be staying at the Comfort Inn and Suites. Is there anyone who might be able to store a portion of these cakes in their hotel fridge until Friday/Saturday? I normally bring cupcakes, but we had this cake (which is gluten free) at our anniversary party, and since it is unique to Fort Worth, we wanted to share it with everyone at the MoMe this year. You can either let me know here or you can send me an email at teresa.hamilton.koch at the gmail thingie. Thanks in advance! CBD - definitely be impressed by him - he was truly a lovely man, a great artist, and deserved every bit of laud and honor applied to him. Also very patient, since he knew the words to each and every verse, and I (sadly) did not! He gave the health unit a mini concert since most of the folks there couldn't go to the concert. Absolutely wonderful soul!

Miklos, I would love if there ever was a fast-food place nationwide that sold *actually cajun and creole* dishes. Etoufee, bouillebaise, etc.
Would probably be expensive, so it might work better as a classic sit-down place. I also know that not all cajun/creole dishes are super spicy and/or made with let's call the "most wholesome" ingredients. Still, wish someone would make the effort. The pandemic killed my favorite cajun place in Santa Ana, Ritter's. No more knocking on their door. :-) Posted by: qdpsteve at September 20, 2025 10:54 PM (G5HPk) 172

No, JFK said “I am a Jelly Donut” basically.
“Berliner” is slang for a type of sweet pastry. Everyone knew what he meant, but … that’s what he said. ——— “Blacklisted by History” about Sen. McCarthy is extensively documented and meticulously footnoted etc. It should be required reading. It’s available online for free to download. No excuse! All the same BS they pull now, they did back then too. But it’s enraging to read what really happemed. Everything you read from the usual sources treat it as “hysteria” or “Red Scare” or “Witch hunt”. Blah blah. Always the same. Saturn opposition is tonight at 1:45AM EDT (05:45Z). At opposition, a planet transits at just about solar midnight. With DST, that adds 1 hour, so local midnight is about 1AM +/- your longitude offset from your time zone meridian. For me, that's 1:28AM, and the EoT offset makes it 1:21AM for apparent midnight. Saturn transit will be 1:25AM, so just 4 minutes off. It will be pretty close for everybody here in the US. A year ago I heard that someone used AI to put together a good Adele song. I wanted to hear it, if only out of curiosity, but had no way to search for the right terms for it.
Well maybe this is it. I imagine if the real Adele had made it, it would have been released as a single and put on her best-of album. I've heard many AI songs this month and all of them have good lyrics with good rhyme and meter. https://youtu.be/07cYlaUwZLo?si=6mtWV7gYZmwDsGsR NSFW warning, the pictures are the most cheesecake version of Sisters of Battle. That little bay behind Sugar Loaf is Botafogo. Didn't really go there much. Rented an apt. in Copacabana for a month or so, but for beaches went a bit south to Ipanema, even back then Copacabana was sort of "yesterday's hot spot". Not a churrascaria but a great steakhouse in Copacabana, remember getting there @10PM and being one of a few people there. By midnight was hopping.
Did Buenos Aires on the way in/out to Brazil. Bife de lomo with a glass of malbec, liquado for dessert. $6? Something like that. But liked the German restaurant on Calle Lavalle (ABC), back then still had waiters who had been crewmen on the pocked battleship Graf Spee. I just finished watching the final episode of Betrothed to My Sister’s Ex, which is a charmingly romantic retelling of the Cinderella fairy tale, with interesting psychological turns in the retelling. I recommend it. She does, however, where glass slippers, and there is even a scene where she loses one of them and her Prince Charming puts it back on her foot. But glass slippers are nonsense! You couldn’t really wear them! And originally they weren’t glass. In the older telling of the tale Cinderella wears squirrel skin slippers: “vair” in French, in oral retellings and with changes in French pronunciation over time, this became a homonym for “verre,” glass, so she now wears glass slippers. The emphasis on tiny feet that wear tiny slippers shows this fairy tale goes all the way back to ancient China.

Affiliates are important to a network, apparently.
Posted by: Boss Moss at September 21, 2025 01:04 AM (nwl4A) This whole thing with Kimmel is total nonsense. I really don't care whether he stays on the air, or leaves, or has to park himself under a bridge, jerking off punks for $15 a man. I just find it comical, that anyone is looking at what happened, and thinking Disney/ABC was PRESSURED by anyone to fire the guy. Really now, these people are the most evil criminals on the planet. And they're more powerful than the President of the United States, let alone the FCC chair. They don't tell the bazillionaire oligarchs what to do. It doesn't work that way. Kimmel would still be doing what he's been doing for years, if they wanted him to be, and there's' not a damn thing anyone could have done to change that. Posted by: Boss Moss at September 21, 2025 01:08 AM (nwl4A) I must admit I don't get the point of late night "comedy" shows. It's not to make money, we know that. I get why networks do sportsball (it's profitable), I get why they do "news" shows (it allows them to launder money for the pharmaceuticals, and secondarily, to spread other propaganda). Because no matter how much you and Ron Paul believe, the rest of the world has a vote and for the entire history of the world, particularly after communism was invented, other countries and movements will try to invade here. This isn't particularly difficult to understand. Posted by: BurtTC at September 21, 2025 02:26 AM (NxiFp) Thanks for your friendly reminder that freedom exists for the asking and that absolutely nothing is worth defending. Posted by: Cow Demon at September 21, 2025 03:20 AM (MrWte) See, this is where you lose all credibility. You resort to name calling, and refuse to even acknowledge what I said. Speaking of YT, I saw a historical video of a underground city built by the US military in Greenland back in the 1950's. The 'city' even had a nuclear reactor to generate power and housed several thousand soldiers. It was near Thule AFB and was suppose to have had many missile silos. Its long gone now, and I suppose the video could be found on YT somewhere. Anyone ever heard of such a place? Thule is now under the Space Command Division of the military and is the most northern US military base their is.

Posted by: Colin at September 21, 2025 03:34 AM (wlQdF) I know almost nothing about Greenland or Antarctica, other than they are presumably the two places on the planet where the ratio of land mass to human poopulation are greatest. Which does make one wonder... what IS going on underneath. If it's not military bases, it's got to be crab people and/or aliens. Or alien robot crab people. I heard guys that were supposed to have been at some base in Greenland in audio before. There were modular nuclear reactors in remote places. All of that went quiet at some point.

I liked the movie 'Nazi's on the moon'. Actually quite well done and I got a kick out the VW's being used to get around in the moon reich. I believe there are two movies, and few people know of them, and weren't a serious movie but in a way funny. The huge place was discovered my US astronauts on a trip to the moon.

Posted by: Gem at September 21, 2025 03:56 AM (e85zz) I'll check it out, thanks! I do listen to Kurt Metzger's "Durping With Kurp" podcast, and he has on all these weirdos of one sort or another. Kurt's a fascinating guy, and sometimes I wish he would just do stream of consciousness rants, which could probably last for days at a time. I don't know what to make of his guests sometimes. Some of it gets real dark, and I don't want to know. Posted by: BurtTC at September 21, 2025 04:00 AM (hkZDC) 544

Posted by: Scuba_Dude at September 21, 2025 04:06 AM (L82HA) I said the other day, everyone looks at the drawings of the Dodo, reports of sailors and other unreliable types who supposedly saw the thing. What if they got it wrong. What if the Dodo is 20' tall. Have you seen its beak? Our reign on this planet could be ended like *snaps fingers* that. By the way, for anyone interested in the Slowcore genre of music, the Wikipedia article (yeah, I know) on the subject is very well written.
They summarize its rise, and continued presence, listing several GREAT bands in their article. I know people like what they like, but I've long been interested in exploring beyond the boundaries of what's offered by the mainstream music industry.
