I never had to work on that equipment per se, but I've had to visit landfill compactors at the landfill shop because I had a job designing accessories for them for awhile. Oh yeah that is soul crushing smell, especially if you had to do it day after day.

All of the big name Brits at the turn of the century, if not expressly conservative as we understand the term were pretty strange. I mean really weird. Aldous Huxley’s brother Julian is a good example.
He kind of got the ball rolling on pharmaceutical enhancements for mind control and changing attitudes with that sort of thing. It took a while, but that’s what the 1960s in America were all about. It wasn’t an organic grass roots phenomenon in any way. It was a very deliberate strategy to mind fvck an entire demographic cohort. Brought by “the man” or The Establishment in fact.

About 7-8 years ago at the state prison in Elizabeth City, inmates took four ladies who ran a textile work program hostage in a bid to break out. Inmates ended up killing them with scissors. My husband has said for weeks he's seen no snakes in the gardens. Work to do this fall and before snow.
I got my gloves and clogs and was going to do some gardening. Sat on the deck steps for less than 2 min to text one of our sons and a snake appears a foot away. Just sitting there, waiting for me. A baby one that I still want dead.I don't really give a damn if it is not going to kill me. Sometimes they like to see me levitate up if I am on the ground. Once in FL I was squatting and one went under my legs, but thankfully not up my shorts. I am often in danger.
I finished my text and came inside. I took a photo of the snake to prove it was there and texted my husband. Proof of why I did no gardening as I planned as I need a guard (him).
He's always said I attract crazy people like a magnet. Apparently snakes as well.

Genetic memory is an amusing idea that I don’t put too much stock in. I know a bit of German, not fluent, but I know how to pronounce it, and btw had one set of great grandparents from Berlin a ways back.
So I was with some travelers from Germany once and just for fun was playing around reading text for them out loud, just to check my pronunciation. And they looked at me surprised and said “where did you learn to speak German with a Berlin accent?” I didn’t know I was doing that, of course.

Aye. Have been to the UK six times.
The first, age 19, a travel study trip to London in the spring of 1974. Fell in love instantly with the flowers, green trees, window boxes, architecture, etc. It was like coming home. Altho when I left MS it was also green with daffodils and spring blooming trees. I could see why my ancestors settled in the South (Virginia, then the Carolinas then MS).
Each time I go I pay a visit to Westminster Abbey when I'm in London.
I have to say, however, Scotland has my heart (me heart?). Loved Ireland, too, and Bath, the Cotswalds, York and Wales...but the Highlands of Scotland spoke to me. It could have been all the Scotch I sampled at different distilleries, but it was a glorious trip.
My mother's family hail from the Mull of Kintyre.

I'd have to burn the house down or move.
A huge lab rat (I called it this but was probably a nasty pet) tried to get into our house a couple of days several summers ago. We were outside with our toddler grandson and he asked if he could pet it. We both freaked out and ran inside and the rat ran after us.
Saw a hawk the next day on the roof and was hoping he'd do his job. Instead we called a guy who trapped things and he got the bastard, who tried to bite his leather gloves as I shrieked quietly inside. Pretty sure he fed the rat to a snake, but I did not ask questions.
We are not pioneer peoples. He's brave and all, but we don't want things in our house. In FL a giant racoon tried to invade our attic and sounded like a grown man up there. We had an animal trapper there, too, who thought I was an eejit.
Basically I should just stay inside but I don't.

In FL I once came home from Publix with groceries and saw a black toupee type THING without a tail run to our son's part of the house. I screamed. It came out from under the sofa. Put towels under the hall door and called my husband at work, a bit breathless. He thought something bad had happened and then sort of laughed.
He had me call the animal control guy. There were roof rats that were black (I read about them) on the island. The animal control guy asked if I saw scat along the baseboards and I told him I had no idea what scat was. Good grief, man, this is why I called. I had to describe the toupee over and over again.
My husband later checked the boy's bedrooms, closets, bathroom, everwhere and found nothing. Animal control guy did the same. He had my husband call me at the hospital to tell the little lady there was nothing now, it must have gone away.
I am sure he thought I was day drinking but I will take this story to my grave. I saw it. It was also not a floater (I forget who suggested that).

There is a slight chance that my wife only married me specifically to save her from critters in the house!
She used to have a cat door, and one cat that was a terrific hunter. Future Bride of PI would begrudgingly pickup dead birds that were gifted to her by that cat.
However, I did have to go over on separate occasions for live removals, including; a garter snake, a baby bunny, a skink (small lizard), and several live birds.
The worst one was a starling that had one slight wound that was dripping blood. It perched on a ceiling fan blade to escape the cat, so my wife turned the fan on low and propped the front door open so it would fly away.
Instead, by the time arrived, there was a nice circle of blood drops in the middle of her white carpet.

If cat people, then a good hunter cat is a terrific benefit for eliminating smallish critters entering the house. However, you do have to be observant when letting the cat back into the house. Our current hunter cat has tried to bring a live mouse into the house on multiple occasions. Presumably, because of the increased "degree of difficulty” due to batting the mice around all of the chair legs at the kitchen table.
If dog people, my experience with terrier breeds is pretty good. They will viciously go after any critters, but I have never seen one nip a human. (In my small sample size.) Also, if a stranger grabs a grandchild, and the child issues any kind of scream, then the terrier will most likely raise holy hell on the large “critter” on your property, and you will immediately know there is a problem.
Just throwing out some ideas to see if any might be beneficial for your sporadic, but ongoing problem with foul, wee beasties!

Fortunately, we have no rattlers in our area, so I'm pretty relaxed about tromping around in the brush.
Wife damned near stepped on a 7 foot gopher snake that was stretched out in the shade of one of our juniper trees. She saw it at the last minute and adjusted her stride so that her foot landed about 6 inches to the side and about two feet behind his (or her) head. It turned its head and looked at her, then slithered off.
If it had been a rattlesnake, it might have struck, but I guess the gopher snake figured no harm, no foul.
I like them, they keep the rodent population in check.

If it's a Coral, I'll be quiet so maybe it will go away. They are very venomous, but nowhere near as dangerous as a rattler, since they really don't have fangs, but sort of have to chew on you to inject any venom. Coral bites are almost always because the fool tried to handle it.

Back when I played StarCraft II, I watched a few of his streams, since he seemed somewhat popular. I never found them particularly interesting or entertaining. On the streams, when he broke away from StarCraft talk, which he inevitably did, because he just needed to express his astounding mindthoughts, he was a bog-standard doctrinaire broken-brained Marxist-trained unthinking unoriginal Frankfurt-school fuckknuckle. We've had three dogs in our marriage and raising sons. The last, a Golden, took a piece of our hearts with him and we have not gotten another as we now live in snow country and don't want to deal with frozen poop.
The thought of the starling on the ceiling fan dripping blood in a circle made me smile. So it must be bed time for my hag self! Ha! Like a carnival ride for the kitty watching the show!

In my teens my father was yelling at me about speeding in my car and I was looking him in the eye and letting him yell. We look alike and I am his only daughter. He was a Marine Sgt and since I was a toddler thought I was hilarious and encouraged me to be as crazy as I wanted to be.
