106 OK here's the magic thing I want, a magic alarm clock.

It's a clock, I set the time in the morning that I want to get up and the alarm rings. It has a snooze function so if I don't want to get up then (this accounts for 100% of the time TBH) I just hit the snooze button. But this is the magic part, time stops at that point.

If I snooze for a half hour I'm not late, or an hour, or three hours, whatever doesn't matter, but when the snooze ends time starts again.

Now this is when my brain starts with the but, but, if time stops then how are you able to go back to sleep, if time doesn't stop for you but it does for everything else then what about the air you're breathing and that means that you'll grow older soon and and... SHUT UP YOU STUPID BRAIN IT'S MAGIC!!!

107 Today was a good day. Foster kid's homeless bio mom made contact this morning. Met with her to let her know what had happened. Going to make sure she has the opportunity to attend all three services.

Grandma still pulling insane shit. Went to the cops to ask them to call here and get the service info. Hey, bitch, maybe don't call all insulting and ranting and then hanging up when you don't get the answer you want and you won't get blocked. She doesn't get to go to the "family" service.

But, yeah, headed for the hills and took a hike. Good for the mental clarity. Lunch at the Pie Bar in Strawberry. They do decent empanadas.

Yep, a very good day indeed.

They also let me know how much money was raised for Shep’s place in mom’s memory. At the time, we were just 300 dollars short of what was needed to get a room named after her when they do their expansion here in the next year or two. A good friend of mine donated the last we needed but I KNOW a huge chunk of the 5,000 total came from Ace of Spades.
So, just wanted to reach out and let you know so you can post in the message board and let all her Ace friends know. “

They point to his parents' beliefs and what he was like in high school, in which case, they are correct. All college campuses need to be purged of these anti-American radicals. They are poisoning the minds of our kids. Can someone in government (Congress, FBI..) investigate this.

They will keep coming back to the same house every year if you have a feeder out. They will let you know they have arrived early, too - by peering in all the windows. “Hey! Where’s the feeder?!”

Some researchers have discovered at least some hummingbirds don’t fly the entire way - apparently they burrow into the feathers of Canada Geese, or other high flying long distance birds.

I had a great off trail campsite in Canyonlands one year, there was a high, smooth expanse of sandstone rimrock. I was laying back resting idly looking at the sky, the trees, etc, and noticed this tiny little nubbin of rock in the sweeping red rock. It was like a little balcony, with a hummingbird sitting in it. Perfect spot for a nest. Cute little fvkers ya gotta admit.

It’s carefully choreographed focus-grouped stage managed bullshit. One errant question from a member of the public (or Bernard Shaw!) can derail an entire political campaign. So they don’t do that anymore.

It’s all theater, by people who can’t even act. At least the old school pols kept the streets plowed, and basic government responsibilities. The latest crews in recent years are just low frequency morons, and corrupt as hell. They’ll be lucky to escape with their heads if things go sideways

286 Homicidal maniac is the classic term, I think.

“Homicide” actually means death caused by another. It is distinct from “Murder”, as one may have to kill a homicidal maniac who is trying to kill you. This isn’t required, but it is widely considered justifiable. Thus “justifiable homicide”, or put another way, “he needed killin’.

I am more interested in what information the “alleged” assassin can give about the network that supported him and about his immediate confederates, in exchange for a lighter sentence (life without parole, say). There are conspiracies to be unraveled!

We're not really playing a card when one of them murders one of us and millions are mocking and celebrating in response. That's not a 'card'.

Saw this Holocaust doc on tv. There was a Jewish woman survivor. Her brief words I've never forgotten: When someone says they want to kill you, believe them.

These people rejoiced at cold-blooded political assassination of a nobody, no power, no money, just a brain and with whom they disagreed. If they were in the next cubicle over, I wouldn't feel safe. They want me and mine dead. It's not a question up for debate at this point, it's a proven fact. That's what shaken up quite a few people, that realization.

I don't know if you remember, but Clinton developed a reputation for constantly walking around with his finger in the air to see which way the wind was blowing. It became almost a caricature.

The reason for that was James Carville. Say what you like about the rat man. He knew better than anyone how to use the polls. He could care less about races using polls. He used them almost exclusively on issues. He'd poll a state and find out the single most important issue to that constituency, then brief Clinton prior to any visit. "Talk this up." "Take this position." "Hammer it home."

That's how Clinton won that second term even though his reputation was absolute sh*t at the time. That's also why Clinton took a chunk out of entitlements.

But the moment that brought the crowd to tears came when owner Jerry Jones unveiled a permanent ‘Charlie’s Kids Zone’ inside the stadium — a colorful space filled with games, learning programs, and Cowboys memorabilia designed to honor Kirk’s legacy. Every dollar raised through activities and merchandise will go directly to support his two young children. The announcement has ignited Texas and sparked a nationwide storm of debate…

While the free access announcement was groundbreaking in itself, the most emotional moment came when Jones unveiled a permanent addition inside AT&T Stadium: the creation of Charlie’s Kids Zone.
The new area will be a vibrant, family-friendly space designed specifically for children. It will include:
* Interactive games themed around the Cowboys.
* Educational programs focused on teamwork, perseverance, and leadership.
* Special memorabilia displays tied to Charlie Kirk’s legacy.

349 The last of the old school battle axes and military veterans and gym coaches retired by the 1970s or so. The education system was completely warped after that.

In a way feminism ruined school teaching. Females historically had few employment opportunities.

Teaching was one, and consequently competition was very high and so were the standards. That’s all gone now. When historically male employment fields were broken into and opened up, the higher pay and rest of it meant that the quality of the pool of available applicants declined precipitously. Slowly at first, then all at once. It shows, just a high proportion of brain dead whack jobs.

Don’t misunderstand there are great teachers, but the few that remain are strangled by a top down bureaucratic system that demands conformity and punishes excellence. You have to be a very determined sort to navigate all the mine fields, and courageous enough to buck the system. They will shiv you in the back, remember this is a field largely dominated by females, of a very specific subset.

*radicalized*

I used to laugh at this when the Fake News said it. I thought it was stupid when I heard the Democrats say it. [Because they were always talking about You & Me.) I even thought it was dumb when it was said about muslims.

I thought: adults can be that weak-minded to be "radicalized," en masse, by listening to other people.

Well, then came Tik Tok, and my eyes have been opened. I want Tik Tok shut down. I want all Platforms to better moderate their content. I want Platforms to be punished, even shut down, if they allow goblins to incite violence & mayhem.

It sickens me that I sound Exactly like the Democrats did 2017-2024.

However, I am on record here at AoS in 2019-2020 for often saying "Social Media is tearing this country apart." And I was right; it was. It did. It still is.

I saw that one and I couldn't quite piece it together.

1 - She dropped out and got homeschooled because her friends pressured her to. Wat? Was this entirely her decision? Her parents had no say? I don't get this situation.

Then she "goes to school" with them and she doesn't know how she's going to avoid them. Maybe she means homeschooling is pooled with other homeschoolers and they all go to school together, but...?

2 - She was the one who blocked her friends, not the other way around, "because they had different political views." She admits that she's the one who blew up these relationships.

3 - She sat in her very nice car playing a celebration song over Charlie Kirk's death, and now "everything they say makes me feel like such a shit person."

These are her peers, and they have the right to reject her. Who tf wants to be seen in public with the girl who was dancing on Charlie Kirk's grave?

And most important...

4 - She never ONCE admits she was wrong. Just weeps because she lost friends whose heads and morals are screwed on straight. Like, can't I dance on a murdered guy's grave and have people to party with and hang out with at lunch?

5 - I'll say it again: she NEVER takes responsibility or considers whether SHE needs to be the one to change, not her friends.

6 - She says the difference is "their political beliefs." Maybe it's their MORALS and VALUES.

7 - She's old enough to know better.

369 I think it was BurtC who mentioned the other day that Canyonlands as being equal to or even better than Grand Canyon.

I would tend to agree from the standpoint that while the GC is awesome, one is mostly limited to standing on the edge and gawking. The Csnyonlands area is much more immersive, you get right in it, as far as you want in very good graded gravel roads that crisscross the area. It would take years to explore even small parts of it.

While 4WD is preferred even cars can travel extensively in the backcountry, Utah and Arizona really take their rural roads seriously. Carry plenty of food and water, detailed maps and guidebooks, camping supplies, the usual stuff and it is absolutely fantastic.

I’m thinking of that picture from Nazi Germany where everyone in the crowd is giving the Nazi salute, except for one guy. That man had courage. The authorities also singled him out and later killed him. Or the lone man standing in front of the tanks in Tiananmen Square. They killed him too. It hasn’t gotten that bad here, but that is what the left is aiming for. That’s what they wanted when they shot Charlie Kirk. Let’s make sure it never happens here!

P.S. The Wikipedia article about Tiananmen Square makes no mention of the lone man facing down the tanks. Maybe that’s a place to start.

If it's any consolation (to us) , it's that both the murder and the reaction created FEWER Democrats. Not a lot, but quite a few people left the Democrat party over this, and NO ONE left MAGA or the GOP.

The Democrats have been hemorrhaging supporters for a few years with all the racist/nazi bullshit, and it accelerated in July 2024 when the Democrats tried to murder President Trump. No one is leaving our side. The Democrat party is getting smaller and smaller, every day. There's no place for any disagreement in the Democrat small tent, which is going further and further to the Left.

So sorry for your loss, Romeo.

We have had children express suicidal ideation - while their life is pretty darn good and they live in a loving 2-parent intact family household.

I wish I knew what the answer was to be able to give you the correct advice.

Posted by: Pillage Idiot at September 13, 2025 12:54 AM (HlyYF)

388 I stopped giving family advice. I once said in a thread long ago that bad family should be cut out like a cancer and discarded. It was a super unpopular comment. I took it in neck. lol

But I wasn't being provocative. I had to do it with almost all of my family (lots of mental health problems and criminal behavior). They're the kind of people who show up on COPS! (One actually was on an episode of COPS!) Nothing to be done. I can't make them whole, but they can ruin me.

My wife is going through the same deal (lots of trash in her family, though not all). But she finds it impossible to cut ties, even though she should. Blood has a strange pull on most people, I think.

For whatever meager worth it might be in a difficult situation, I draw comfort from the episode when Jesus, being informed his family was near, said that his disciples, those who do the will of the Father, are his family. So, in my mind, blood ties can't be some sort of unbreakable suicide pact. That's where I landed anyway.

But no one should be taking advice from me on this subject. Even my wife thinks I'm a reptile.

They can be picked off as they try to leave. We could kill most of the people in the Blue cities (and all the cities are Blue). But do we want to become the kind of people that could do this? Because you're traumatized over what happened with your daughter. Until you work through that, you won't be able to make a decision re your son that you can live with.

You could get counseling/therapy over your problem with daughter if you haven't already, and see if it brings you clarity about your situation with your son.

You could work with the assumption that your son will never change no matter what. Remove any tension or effort or fear -- or hope or future -- and go from there. It might lift something from you.

I can empathize, having lost a daughter to suicide 8 years ago.

Can I ask you a rather delicate question? Has your son ever talked about how his sister's suicide affected him? Being that she was his twin must make it doubly hard for him. His other half is no longer there, and given that he was only 24 when that happened - my gosh.

I know in talking to both of our other adult daughters, they suffered, too, when Michelle died, but they didn't feel like they should burden either of us with their pain, because we had lost a daughter. I guess in their minds "daughter" trumped "sister" in the grief hierarchy. It doesn't, of course, but people think weird things when a family member commits suicide.

My guess is that a lot of your son's issues stem from his sister's suicide. Eating is a coping mechanism.

Is there some way to get him to join a group of adults who have lost a sibling to suicide?

However, grief is sneaky - it will sit in the background, just festering. At some point, you(he) will have to face it. That's a scary proposition, but your son is not going to get past this stage until he confronts his pain head on.

I wish you luck, and both of you will be in my thoughts and prayers. Are you coming to the Texas MoMe? Would he consider coming along? I would love to have a chance to meet with both of you; having also experienced the suicide of a beloved family member, perhaps he would be willing to open up and talk about his feelings. "Speech" for a widow eulogizing her dead husband just didn't seem like the right word, but maybe I should use that to be clear in the future.

To repeat, Sky News Australia is one of the good guys.

I completely agree - the sad thing is that there are wonderful resources out there for kids under the age of 18 who have experienced the loss of a loved one. Fort Worth has The WARM Place (What About Remembering Me?), which does amazing things. Unfortunately, there aren't programs like that for adults who have lost a sibling.

You haven't failed as a parent, so quit beating yourself up. You are in a very delicate situation; I wish I had answers for you. The important thing is to love your son and to pray that one day he will get tired of hating the world. But ultimately, HE has to want to change. Just be there for him - that is all that you can do.

I am sure there is a genetic component to the rate at which one's arteries get clogged, or not clogged. Which is why I am kind of wary of the medical profession's tendency to set benchmarks for certain markers, and then declare "you are sick" if one of those is even slightly exceeded.

I think it might be more useful to record trends in the value of those markers, more than the absolute value. Maybe everyone has a different set point for cholesterol, or A1C, or sugar,, and as long as there is no big change, everything is ticking over as it should. But if one of those is rapidly rising, there is your warning sign.

I'll never forget my first cardiologist. He said my LDL had to be below 70, when at the time I think the standard was 100. I said 70?? Where did they get that number?? Then he tells me about studies they did of some frigging tribes in south america, most likely ones that don't even know what a light bulb is, and says they found that an LDL of below 70 there was no trace of any heart issues. I looked at him, and my exact words were "so, you're telling me that for the rest of the world that don't run around in loin cloths hunting monkeys with a fucking blow gun we need cholesterol meds???" He laughed and said yeah pretty much. I probably should have listened actually.

503 Quit worrying about your cholesterol. Most people admitted for heart issues have normal or low values. Your triglycerides are a better indicator of problems.

Everyone's cholesterol rises as they age. It's likely protective. Your needs cholesterol to stay soft. Every cell in your body needs cholesterol to function properly. There are undoubtedly people who need to be careful, but as AOP mentioned, those people have a genetic component working against them, and you're usually talking about values above 1000. My cousin Brett had cholesterol of 1200, and you could see the blobs of it in the test tube thingee when they drew his blood. He took after his coon ass Daddy, who also had high cholesterol and was one of my favorite uncles, and both of them died before 50 of massive heart attacks. Most heart attacks before 50 are genetic, and you probably don't have much chance, but avoiding cigarettes and carbs helps. Brett's older brothers took after his mom, my actual aunt, who lived well into her 90s, and they're all still alive, too.

Heh. I ran this "address" ambiguity through Grok. After describing the context, Grok agreed that "speech" or "remarks" wasn't really the right tone. "Eulogy" or "tribute" weren't right either, as it was more than that.

And it decided, that "address" was indeed likely the best word, and the simple way to remove the ambiguity would be to attach and adjective like "moving" or "poignant", or "powerful". Her "poignant address". A postal address would never be considered such.

Simple, and I didn't even think of it.

My advice to her is to upgrade immediately. I had police protection for awhile many years ago, for reasons I do not care to get into at the moment, and I am here to tell you that obsessed and/or angry lunatics will easily outsmart the cops, unless they happen to have direct training in stalking behaviors, or specific military training around things like clearing buildings, perimeter, etc.

That was me. I meant her remarks, her speech, her uh-DRESS, not AD-dress.

THey didn't doxx her, they aired her speech live. The word "speech" didn't seem right in that context. It was more than a eulogy or tribute. "Remarks" is too dry.

There is no ambiguity between the two meanings "address" in the spoken word, as they are pronounced differently, but boy in the written word.

The day he was murdered, I was so afraid to go look at social media and see all the hate.

It's there, of course. But I was so happily surprised to see the outpourings of love, courage, faith, hope, encouragement. People sad but also openly saying they would try to continue his legacy. And so much of it young people! And many of them were the very lgbt, black, female minorities that the left believes Charlie hated.

Something is definitely in the air! I hope it bears good fruit. I hope the left unwittingly unleashed a thousand new Charlie Kirks to take up the torch.

There's a pic of a statue. It's nice, but any statue memorial to Charlie Kirk should be a metal bench!! With a statue of him sitting on one side of the bench, his hands and expression open to talking to the live person sitting on the other side of the bench. And someone can actually sit there and post like they are talking to him.

A fitting legacy for someone that just wanted to promote dialogue.

The first statue should be unveiled at the soon-to-be created Charlie Kirk plaza at UVU, the plaza where he died, which they are naming in his honor.
