A little more than an hour after liftoff, the Starship guided itself to a controlled splashdown in the Indian Ocean northwest of Australia. The ship came within 10 feet (3 meters) of its targeted splashdown point, near an inflatable buoy in position to record its final descent.
SpaceX engineers noticed the booster's performance on descent in flight doesn't match predictions from computer models or wind tunnel tests. In ground experiments, the booster encounters unstable buffeting as it slows below the speed of sound. The spotted ratfish is a two-foot-long fish with a big head and a long, skinny tail that lives in the northeastern Pacific Ocean. It belongs to a group of fish called chimaeras that are closely related to sharks. (Chimaeras are sometimes called ghost sharks.) Like most vertebrate creatures, it has teeth in its mouth. Unlike other vertebrates it also has teeth in another location: its forehead. It uses these forehead teeth for sex. The ratfish's extra teeth line a cartilaginous appendage called a tenaculum that in males can be erected and deployed to grasp a female during mating. Many fish have clasping appendages near the pelvis that they use to hold their mate close during the deed. The spotted ratfish has the tenaculum in addition to pelvic claspers.It takes something special to prevent "ghost sharks" from being the strangest part of the story.

NEW: Three suspects arrested after a Texas youth baseball coach was shot during a pregame prayer with his players, according to local media.
Mahmood Abdelsalam Rababah, 23, Ahmad Mawed, 21, and Mustafa Mohammad Matalgah, 27, have been arrested.
According to the Waller County Sheriff’s Office, the men fired their guns from a "nearby pasture" towards the baseball field.
The coach was reportedly saying a prayer before the game with his team when he was shot in the shoulder.
"He literally took the bullet for a child that was to his left, and so thankfully we avoided a major disaster. Still very, very emotional over it," said Houston Warriors founder Andy Baize to KHOU 11.
The field known as 'The Rac' claims the men were "target practicing" from 600-700 yards away.
"People shoot on their land all the time. At the time, we were unaware of anything in season. Now that we have more information, we know that there were 3 individuals target practicing 600/700 yards away," they said on Facebook, according to NBC.
The coach was airlifted to a hospital and has since been released.
The men were taken into custody on felony charges of deadly conduct with a firearm.

Umm. OK. You've had fairly detailed strategies for enforcement against businesses - with minimal economic disruption, and minimal risk/cost/effort to ICE - since the *first* Trump term, sitting on your desks.
Interesting they would post this kind of stuff. They know it's the glaring omission from current action. They also know it would be, by far, the most efficient, low-risk, and powerful tool to start reversing the 90% of the damage from mass illegal migration that is *not* criminal behavior.

I've just been watching the opening ceremonies for the Ryder Cup (for those who don't know, it's a golf match between American and European players), which this year is being held on Long Island. The captain of the European team made some public remarks, in the course of which he said "My thanks to the governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, for her hospitality"--and WOW, did the crowd boo her name.

You can also move the term to the right hand side of the field equations and think of it as source term. When you do that, you call that "dark energy" (not to be confused with dark matter).
So, on the one hand, you can think of it as just a feature of gravity. Empty spacetime "expands", it's not flat. Or you can think of it as some sort of "stuff" that acts like anti-gravity.
Most of think of it as the latter, as when it's some sort of "stuff" you can do more things with it as a source term than a mere constant term can do.

It would take 2 1/2 million years just to get there at the speed of light. Thats crazy shit. I was able to see it in my telescope, but not with great resolution. It was like a fuzzy patch in the sky. Probably too much light pollution and not a big enough mirror.

On the one hand, there is that number of molecules of water in one mole, which ain't much water.
Yet that's a lot of stars. That shows you the universe is yuge, yet mostly empty space, compared to when matter gets concentrated.

Andromeda is on a collision course with the Milky Way. It was thought that would be happen in about 4.5 billion years.
But now, with much better data (Gaia and Hubble), that may just be a close encounter, not a collision. There would still be a final merger, but much later than originally thought up to 10 billion years from now.
Either way, in a few billions year, you'd see Andromeda looming large in the night sky.

The Gaia mission, which started in 2013, and just ended in March, 2025 (it was retired and put in heliocentric orbit to avoid space junk problems), mapped out 1.7 billion stars within a 326 ly radius. That's just our local neighborhood, really.

One reco: if you're ever able to see the team do its evening drill at the Commandant's barracks, 8th and I SE in DC, do it. A spectacularly well choreographed and impressive operation in a striking setting. Of course the team is worth seeing anytime/any place, but at the barracks is the best.

Now, how big would our 1000 yard solar system be in that? Take a quarter, and plop in on the ground in east Tennessee. Well, we're going on the upswing through the midplane.

For my tastes, fall is looking bleak. One Punch Man S3 is expected to be an absolute trainwreck. Kingdom tries, but is just a worse version of the manga.

That's "off-air" networks such as Disney, Netflix, etc. If you pay for it, your voice gets heard about what gets shown. "On-air" is over spectrums controlled by the government and has rules and regulations. There would need to be big changes to allow the networks to change what they can show.

Multi band shows are a blast, but damn its where I witnessed the biggest parties where people get trashed. Picture a MoMe where everybody is in one of the bands, and just like a mome where you have a common interest. Instead of guns, and booze,and socializing, you got guitars/instruments, booze, and socializing. Some members have crossed paths with other members over the years, or have done shows together, etc. Its a MoMe for musicians. Part reunion, part party, etc. We just go a little heavier on mayhem than a mome. lol

Their argument: "this isn't the 1970s anymore. EVERYONE has access to almost everything, all they have to do is pay a paltry $8 a month or something, which is affordable by everyone. Why are we stuck with all these ancient rules, just because we broadcast 'over the air'?"
If FCC still sez "don't care, stick with the standards," then the networks could decide to give up on over-the-air programming and go 100% streaming/cable, where there are no "community standards" rules.

I sincerely hope not. Look at the abomination Star Trek turned into once the writers were "free" from the chains of over the air standards. A complete mess of gore, decapitations, and supposedly intelligent and enlightened professionals cussing like sailors.
The writers devolved into being edgy teenagers who are obsessed with the idea that maturity is only what is forbidden to children.
Like watching a clean comic that had to rely solely on the strength of his material decide to just swear every other word instead of writing actual jokes.

I cut a cable quadrant off the throttle body from the defunct Suburban engine, and will figure out a way to adapt it to the Quadrajet carburetor. Also have to ensure that the attachment point for the transmission throttle valve cable is at the right radius and suitably clocked. so as to have the full range of movement of the throttle arm be equal to the full range of movement of the transmission throttle valve. All I have read stresses that this is crucial to the transmission living long and prospering.
