As an American, we have lost the most articulate spokesman for America and its unique value system—a country founded to be free, based on Jerusalem and Athens, the Judeo-Christian value system and the Greek emphasis on logic and reason. Charlie was a uniquely gifted individual who, in his teens, created the largest movement of young Americans committed to preserving and growing America and its ideals. He tirelessly went from campus to campus, from Oxford to Utah, dialoging with any student who wished to debate him. Using his vast reservoir of facts and his exceptionally speedy and articulate mind, he gave them what seemed to be unlimited amounts of time, and then calmy eviscerated all their anti-American, anti-Western, and anti-Judeo-Christian positions. I watched an inordinate number of these exchanges and thanked God that Charlie Kirk was there to do this work. America’s youth in particular have lost a moral and intellectual leader, one who would, perhaps, have one day become their president. As a committed Jew, I thank God regularly that a non-Jew, a committed Christian, became one of the few great public spokesmen on behalf of Israel and the Jewish communities outside of Israel. Few Jews could match Charlie’s knowledge and eloquent arguments on behalf of those two entities. As Dennis, I have lost a very close friend. Charlie repeatedly visited me in the various hospitals that I have been in since November 12 of last year, when I suffered a catastrophic fall which has left me paralyzed. When members of the nursing staff heard that Charlie Kirk was visiting me, my room became the most popular one in the hospital. Charlie brought me the manuscript of his forthcoming book arguing that everyone—Christians as well as Jews—should observe Shabbat, the Jewish Sabbath, just as he and his family had begun to do from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown. It is a measure of our close relationship that he dedicated the book to me. His brilliant exposition of these arguments provide clear evidence for the non-necessity of a college education for most young Americans. My heart breaks for his young widow, Erika, and for his two children, who have lost as great a man and a father as children can have. And for Charlie, who did not live to see them grow up. It's not "just" influencers on the right that get demonized.
It's all of us. The vast majority on the left hate us and want us dead. They used to be circumspect about pulling the proverbial trigger, but I think we're way past that now.

You mention "trigger", and the Left has certainly introduced the idea of being "triggered" and have given us physical evidence to pre trigger and post trigger behavior.
So I think the "want" to kill us is really just a triggered response. That is, if they know you are conservative by reputation they don't want you dead Right Now, but if they discover your leanings based on a red cap or something they overheard you say to a friend that offends them, then they are deciding where to plunge the shiv and can they get away with it.

I've been steadily on the verge of tears over the last few days since Charlie was assassinated. Erika's live address last night (thanks Ace for linking to it when you did) broke me. I was both inspired and humbled at the same time. Inspired, because his death is goading me into becoming even more politically active. Humbled, because I want to be the kind of husband that my wife can say the words about me that Erika spoke about Charlie.
Politically, I know that the Left has been trying to raise up their own Joe Rogans, Charlie Kirks, and Scott Preslers. Failing that, I'm afraid they would be happy to go after ours. Through all the performative crocodile tears several (certainly not all!) from the Left are shedding over the loss of Kirk, there must be some that are secretly glad that one of our most powerful chess pieces has been taken off the board.
Although, according to Erika Kirk, they haven't anticipated what they have actually done in making a martyr out of Charlie.

Today, I go to my dad's to collect most of the last of belongings I find relevant or meaningful, ending that part of his legacy, whatever it is.
Tomorrow, we have a going away party for his widow, married for 29 years, whom is moving to a different assisted living facility in another state, hours and hours away. I was not a huge fan of hers, I have my reasons, but she proved she was in it for better or worse as my dad was hell on her for the better part of 10+ years. My step-sister has proven to be a largely selfish and worthless c*nt, honestly.
They murdered Charlie Kirk this week, the day before 9/11 memorials, and each side blames the other, only one, though, pulling the trigger and taking no responsibility for it whatsoever.
Life is already hard. Now, it's really starting to suck. I pray for guidance and strength, not just for me, but for everyone.

It occurred to me this morning that Charlie Kirk was the literal, physical, intellectual and spiritual antithesis of the Left. In every characteristic and expression he was their total opposite. Joyful, confident, constructive, enterprising, kind, embracing of dialogue, successful, Christian -- in any way you wish to break it down -- he was their total inversion.
Given this truth, given the fact he sought out interactions with them in such a way as to highlight these opposing characteristics, the strengths of his arguments and the weakness of theirs, his mere existence could only be a humiliation for them. Charlie never consciously tried to humiliate anybody. It didn't matter. It was simply a function of who he was and who they are, their narcissistic, insecure and pathological profile. This kind of inescapable humiliation was intolerable. It had to follow that the only answer, the only response, was to eliminate him.
This is and always will be the price they will try to make us -- or the best fighters among us -- pay.

The democidal excesses of the left go to their very roots, from which "the left" came as a descriptor in France. Decades of spastic, gleeful murder in Russia, Spain, China, Cambodia, Cuba, and so on are not consequences of the ideology. It is THE END GOAL IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Leftism has one tenet: what is right, is defined by what leftists want or do in the moment, and they have a perpetual, non-negotiable right to rule by all and any means. There may be a sizable number on the left who just want to be left alone, same as us. They disagree with us about how to achieve similar goals and solve the same problems. But, they're throwbacks being drowned out by the crazy and evil. Doesn't mean that they aren't there. They could be the silent majority on that side. The folks that are publicly walking away from the Democrat party appear to be from that cohort. So they do exist. But are their number greater than the crazy/evil cohort?
Or, perhaps, the sane/sensible group are fleeing in numbers so large that the crazy/evil do outnumber them now.

There are a few similar restaurants where I am. I don’t know specifically what the owners said about Charlie, I can only imagine. They always have signs in their windows pushing the latest thing. But they do good buisness because they found a niche market. Overall the area is 65-35 right/left. They cater to that 35 and it works for them.

He said that his sources told him that Charlie Kirk had been speaking for about 10 minutes already, but it was not until he started answering this question that the shot was taken. So he said that it would be good for law enforcement to interview that person who asked the question to find out if there was any coordination there or it was just coincidence.
I would say they also need to call in for questioning the two people standing behind Charlie Kirk to his right, who seemed to be making signals right before the shot was taken.

Part of the problem with the left is that all of them are in therapy and have been for most of their lives, so they are pretty skilled in at least layman's psychology. I'd abolish tenure going forward. It has not achieved its stated purpose of protecting academic freedom (academia is monolithic in its views and not very academic or productive of heterodox viewpoints). And there's no other reason why professors of all people alone should be insulated from market forces.

Fwiw, the problem I saw was more administrators. Those over student affairs in particular. Tenure protected the reasonable ones until administrators started eviscerating that like in the Mike Adams case over a decade ago. So tenure now only protects those that administrators like. Bernie Sanders produced a video the day before, and tried the same message (the right is just as culpable as the left, and MORE violent). His prime focus was the attempted Whitmer Kidnapping case (which was pure entrapment and manipulation of half-wits by the FBI).
That should tell you something. They have no idea how to counter this. And no one with a potential political future ahead of them wants to stick their heads up.

I'd abolish tenure going forward. It has not achieved its stated purpose of protecting academic freedom (academia is monolithic in its views and not very academic or productive of heterodox viewpoints). And there's no other reason why professors of all people alone should be insulated from market forces.

I was born in '70 so all I know I heard from my older sisters who were in high school at the time. I remember them telling me about daily race riots, knife fights in gym locker rooms, a constant level of threat, and this was in the middle of Kansas. I didn't see any of that in the 80s. I don't know if it boiled over and then went back to a simmer or the militants just went underground quietly infiltrating everything. But the late 60s sounded pretty bad.

Problem for the oppo is they have no Trump, or Vance, or Charlie Kirk, because how could they? The practical application of their policies has been proved as disastrous for society time and time again, and their moral framework is based on celebrating dysfunction and obvious untruths. How WOULD you logically convince someone that gender is a choice? Or Chicago was built by Indians and slaves? Or that in 2025 every black person is in mortal danger every day from roving bands of white racists? All that is simply and obviously not true and their only power is threatening consequences if you don't submit and lie with them. The tragedy of King is that he did not live long enough to destroy his own reputation. He was not a good man in his private life (a pastor stepping out on his wife is hooboy territory). The two killings are both important for different reasons. Iryna Zarutska was killed because she was too trusting, white, and pretty, even in work clothes. It points out black racism against whites “I got that white girl!” and reminds us that the criminally insane should be institutionalized (as opposed to executed). Charlie Kirk’s death was based on the justification from the Left that “bad thought” needs to be suppressed, by killing the “bad thinker” if need be. I see that as the more serious crime by its implications. I also think in passing that the university Charlie was talking at is partly to blame by not providing a secure site for the discussion. The universities are run, for the most part, by Leftists and typically give short shrift to security concerns from right-wing speakers. It is a tribute to Charlie Kirk’s bravery that he chose to speak anyway. I hope and pray that insouciant attitude from university administrators changes for the better going forward.

I was a default leftist all through my undergraduate and graduate training and during my postdoc with the Navy (wound up doing my postdoc with the NRL). I only began to question my political leanings when I began to see what low lives so many dedicated Leftists really were (I was not dedicated: I was a “default” leftist). That and the political oppression of scientific ideas that I first saw at the NRL (it had to do with CO2 as the prime greenhouse gas - it’s not, but that’s a topic for another time). I got my tenure just about the time I had become a right leaning thinker: listening to Rush Limbaugh really helped. Later, the chair of my tenure committee, a rare black physicist who had helped hire me, told me that if he knew how I would turn out (right wing) he wouldn’t have let me get tenure. There is a reason right wing thinkers speak in cautious, hushed tones in the university!
