The ends justify the means. Imagine buying into the "my violence is speech but your speech is violence" nonsense. Such a waste. Imagine thinking that the gun is the problem. Not all societal struggles are noble. They're dressed in the trappings of causes and language and "making a difference," but are mostly people pushing for more control and power. Undercurrents of class conflict are easy to find if you look. Working the system is an entitlement that brings no shame. Fighters are not afraid to use all the tools available to pursue control and power (and often wealth). When you're fighting, you use every avenue available. You may espouse a philosophy, but ultimately your philosophy is that anything you do or desire is warranted to win. Dialogue is not a virtue. Why talk with your enemy? Why give them a "platform"? Better to destroy them. It isn't a secret. Alinsky published the playbook. "If only they would better understand, they'd see..." Presuming good faith or pointing out a hypocrisy or inconsistency misses the point. Never explain, never apologize. Everything is malleable in the name of the cause. "Queers for Palestine?" Sure. Just keep fighting. The long march must continue. Most dangerously, both fighters and sheep want to think highly of themselves. Ego must be served. Think the right things. Show that you're not "one of them." In the ongoing struggle for power, your "tribe" is the one right and true tribe. Heresy is punished. Push further into the unhinged to show your true commitment to the cause. Accumulating power is good because they all imagine they should have the power. Power for power's sake, but power is also useless unless wielded. Useful idiots also think the alligator will eat them last. They also have the arrogance of elevating themselves above all else, including God or a judeo-Christian moral framework. Why wrestle with a moral foundation of natural law from God when I know better? Easier to substitute the religion of climate or DEI or whatever the grievance of the day is. How do you reason with people that despise your existence? How do you reason with people that despise your existence and feel morally justified and compelled to do so? How do you live with people that are dedicated to fighting you?
What happens when the bubble gets shattered? What happens when all the people who didn't realize they were in a fight realize they are in a fight? The era of "reasonable people can differ" is gone. The era of "live and let live" is on literal life support. Many still can't comprehend that their mere existence is viewed as a threat. Many still think the media reports the "news." The "moderates" or "precious independents" presume that peace and prosperity is the default without recognizing both are the exception. Few recognize the precarious perch upon which our daily lives rest. We trusted that others would act the way we would and value the same things we value. We were wrong. We removed strong foundations and thought there would be no cost. We thought the center might wobble but ultimately hold because it always has before. We "took the high ground" and absorbed the body blows because we didn't think we had to fight. We incrementally committed suicide. You may not be interested in the fight, but the fight is interested in you. Will we fight? The great sorting has been underway for some time. Red states and blue states. Red counties and blue counties. Migration data shows people are voting with their feet and their future. X has broken the media monopoly and allowed voices to be heard and find each other than did not before. It created such a threat that governments are still fighting to shut it down. If they can't control it, it must be destroyed. What happens as historical pivot points force more people to "see"? A guy sitting on a chair and a woman sitting on a light rail seat did not perish by accident. Both were calculated and intentional. Recognizing you have a problem is the first step to dealing with the problem. The rules of the game have changed. Charlie overturned the rock and shined a spotlight to show what was beneath. It earned him a bullet but what was seen cannot be unseen. How many people now see with greater clarity? Do those people now realize they are in a fight? What causes a break? What makes it different this time? What happens when the center does not hold? What happens when there is no center? Will we fight? What will be left to fight for? What will victory or defeat look like? Does it happen with or without us, despite us or because of us? "Fighting" does not mean random violence or even physical violence or blindly attacking flawed people and institutions. It means taking an active role in our own life. It means being skeptical in places we used to trust. It means being firm in places we used to bend. It means finding allies with values rooted in natural law. It means defending truth. It means saying prayers to recognize our blessings and remember we are created in the image of God but we are not God. It means acting like citizens rather than subjects. It means acknowledging there are wolves out there and the flock needs shepherds to look after the sheep. Will we fight?

Sorry if I don't say this well- absolutely no disrespect to Charlie meant here - but I genuinely feel like part of me died today. We are an enemy, and we have an enemy. We can not continue to cohbitate with "them" and reconcile these differences amicably. Charlie tried. Damn did he try. And look what happened. I will not soon, if ever, forget the video of him being shot today. Him slumping down immediately with so much visible blood. You can not find a more respectful person than Charlie. The way he stayed cheerful and dignified to those who tried to debate him was masterful. He died doing what he loved and was good at. Rest in peace, brother Charlie.

Lenin was a horrible scumbag, but I often think he was on to something with his "the worse, the better" doctrine. People with a more or less comfortable place in society are not generally going to take up arms, even for something they feel strongly about; they have too much to lose. My guess is the shooter was aiming for the chest, and hit high because he didn't account for the fact that shooting down hill the bullet strikes higher than the aim point on a rifle zeroed on flat ground.

I understand. But I don't agree and have not for a while. The train of abuses far exceeds those that provoked the American Revolution. If the authoritarian pandemic regime, Orwellian speech-control attempts, stealing an election in broad daylight, attempt to displace and oppress me with foreign criminals, and on and on and on do not warrant a violent response, what would? I mostly don't talk about this because the public is not there, and apparently never will be, preferring virtually any living conditions to real civil unrest or worse (and because there's nothing to say beyond this that wouldn't result in a banning). But I think we're beyond mere disagreements. Kirk wasn't disagreed to death.

I believe Charlie Kirk's assassination today was perpetrated by a professional, or at least someone with extensive training, likely former LE or military.
Consider:
-Long range, precision shot of 200m or more. One single shot was sufficient. This requires appropriate equipment and training.
-Likely fired from a hide position atop a building or in some other concealed, elevated position. This implies sophisticated prior reconnaissance, line of sight analysis and arranging access to the hide position. Although we don't know yet if this is the case, any sanitization of the hide site (i.e., removal of empty shells and other evidence) suggests professionalism.
-Related to the above point, the assassin knew where Kirk was going to set up. This suggests some sort of inside prior knowledge of events, and suggests highly sophisticated planning.
-The assassin has thus far evaded capture, which suggests a sophisticated escape and evasion plan. It appears that security cameras may not have sufficiently captured images of him/her, again suggesting some sort of insider knowledge or at least very effective prior planning.

Years ago, I think well before Trump, probably closer to when Andrew Breitbart was still with us, someone posted a sort of short story from the perspective of a leftist journalist who had been jailed, looking back at how it all began...that at first, journalists who were spouting the party line were being shot as they were reporting what she admitted they all knew were lies, but it was to promote their favored candidate/president, so it was ok. Paraphrasing heavily. She remembers back at all sorts of things that the press had done, justifying it in their own minds, how things started going badly for them, culminating in it being the night before she was being executed.
I saved it; it was so well done, now I can't find it. Does anyone remember anything like this at all? She remembers how cleverly "the far right extremists" had found ways to outsmart the almost constant surveillance they were under, and communicate effectively enough to overthrow the system that was absolutely intent on destroying them. I'd like a refresher course on their tactics

My guess is the shooter was aiming for the chest, and hit high because he didn't account for the fact that shooting down hill the bullet strikes higher than the aim point on a rifle zeroed on flat ground.
So a good shooter but not a pro. Somebody with John Brown Gun Club level skills.

One of the church security ministries I worked with added a "reception desk" in their vestibule that has to buzz people in if they arrive after services begin. Two parishioners man the reception desk, about six feet apart, and both their buttons have to be pressed to deactivate the lock. A few members of the security ministry are distributed among the flock, each near an alternate exit where First Aid, door jammers and other gear are discreetly staged.
It's a shame that churches have to do this, but if they're going to do it, they figure they'd might as well do it right.

Anyone arriving after the 5 min lockup have to be buzzed in.

So a good shooter but not a pro. Somebody with John Brown Gun Club level skills.
That's one possibility. The other is he was going for a head shot and hit lower than he aimed.
So far, the shooter has evaded local, state and federal law enforcement. They aren't all stupid.
The shooter in Butler, PA fired 6 or 7 shots. This guy fired one and then ran after hitting his target. And he's still running. I think it's a mistake to keep assuming this was just some random person who had some basic firearms training and he got lucky. Maybe that's the case but that seems increasingly like an outlier. Sometimes the easy answer is the right one, this person has some professional training.

I am told that as a state representative this is the moment where I'm supposed to express my heartfelt condolences and then stand in solidarity with those on the other side of the aisle as we condemn political violence and stand unified as one people.

The truth is we haven't been for some time now, and there is really no point in pretending anymore, if there ever was.
We are two very different peoples. We may occupy the same piece of geography, but that is where the similarities seem to abruptly end.
I convinced myself for a long time that whenever the left called me a racist, a bigot, a sexist, a fascist, a "threat to democracy" for even the most innocent of disagreements, that it was simply hyperbolic rhetoric done for effect.
And now the "effect" is a widow and two orphaned children, because the left couldn’t bear the thought of a peaceful man debating them and winning.
I don’t think they realize it yet, but murdering Charlie is going to be remembered as the day where we finally woke up to what this fight really is.

I think all MAGA security teams need to have a drone aloft with a highly skilled operator. The drone needs to follow the black-clad guy on the roof and then get LEOs on the trail immediately. Hopefully LEOs or armed security can get the shooter before the drone reaches its range limit.
If all shooters will be caught, then that considerably narrows the pool of assassins to only crazies and martyrs.
Personally, I don't think we are going to catch Charlie's assassin.

I reported screen shots to the Orem, Utah police contact number. They saw it and responded. Report to the police of a city if there is a future threat like this one, not to X or whatever.

The regular Democrats did what Democrats do and stole the election, which set The Revolution back a decade. This may be remnants of The Revolution trying to reassert themselves. The regular Democrats are likely horrified, but more afraid of them than they are of us. By the way, the Chinese were instrumental in the George Floyd riots.
One last thought: Now we have millions of illegals everywhere, a phenomenon that's never existed before, and the Left has decided that it loves them more than it loves its traditional allies. I don't know how that plays out.

I was pretty confident Trump was going to win prior to Butler. After, I knew we were going to win. And we did in a landslide.

In my mind, Fighting means defending Uncle Herschel. It means punishing Bud Light (no, I didn't drink it before either, but the point stands).
It means parenting.
It means not ignoring or conceding local elections.
It means finding the good and affirmatively supporting it rather than assuming that the good will happen on its own.
It does not mean tit for tat or looking for trouble. The rules of self defense still apply (better not to be in the situation than need to get yourself out of a bad situation).
If trouble finds you, then it means FAFO if/when needed to defend against those who seek to take advantage or impose their evil upon us. No need to provoke, but there has to be a cost for evil.
Fighting means the persistence of the human spirit and ongoing determination to pursue truth, justice and the American way. It means a recognition that we need to affirmatively choose how we live because we can't always assume the center will hold.

Then consider... blow out kit per vehicle. Smaller kit for carry on person/in pockets. Kit per load bearing setup. Kit for spare load bearing setups or friends.
Don't forget emergency dental care either, or foot care, and perhaps look up what adventure travelers bring for antibiotics, and where they get them. $20 of pills and some manuals can save a life.

I was one of those. He just wasn't on my radar screen. I had heard mention of him here, but to me he was just another pundit or Internet voice that was on the periphery of my awareness. He just had not made an impact in my life. But I am pretty insignificant on the great scheme of things, so that is scarcely a surprise. It has been enlightening to read about his impact on the young voters.
There is a whole lot of popular culture that escapes my awareness. Most of these TV personalities that Ace rants about only exist in my mind as stick figures. Not having a TV will do that to a person.

Anyway on the blowout & it's cheap. Go to the Truck Stop and buy fuse flares, the kind that burn hot and bright. They have their own striker so there's no worry there. I used to just have an old LBE in the closet, one I used when I was in. Just after 8 AM my foster kid's grandmother calls wailing and shrieking about how could we schedule the viewing for Monday when she has an appointment that she fought for months to get that day. I've watched the ABC and NBC national news special reports and broadcasts and the local news broadcasts about the assassination of Charlie Kirk.
They're all twisting themselves into knots to report, and to tell everyone that they will report, any developments, as soon as they get them. It's real self-flagellation; they know they own a big piece of this, and that everyone knows it.
I predict that the shooter is a whiney, snively little activist twink, who thought he could strike a blow, or something. I expect that he will be caught soon, likely being ratted-out by his own people.
Only then realize that he should have surrendered, getting a deal that keeps him in solitary, away from the other, much bigger, prisoners, who will take offense, repeatedly, over the next 25 years, for him having shot a father of a toddler, and a crawler.
