35 @Pixy: How's the pain in the feet? I'm delighted that you've managed to lose that much weight that was "improperly retained fluid", that's a good sign.

And the underlying cause was... blood pressure?

What was the underlying cause of that though? Stress from your job I'm guessing? (Hey, I used to be right there in that mess, I get it. I'd rather be driving a bus full of 70 yelling kids, way less stressful.)

Speaking of driving: Today's the first actual day of school up here. Wish me luck.

The word in Hebrew is "goyim", the plural of "goy." The word is a homophone. It can mean "gentile" or "nation." In this verse it means "nations."

52 Oink! Belated.

Steve Earle. Dang. A couple of years ago he released an excellent album of Jerry Jeff Walker covers and then went on tour. Having the money and time I decided it was high time to go see him perform. And that I did all over Texas for three shows. He late work, that being from the last decade or so resembles nothing from his hell raising days. His son, Justin Townes Earle, a very fine song writer in his own right, passed from a from a heroin overdose, a legacy it seems from his early days, changed him hard from what I was able to figure out. To say it shattered him is about correct. The one song from those sets that sticks with me is Steve playing Justin's Harlem River Blues, a song about dying. Somewhere deep inside I still hurt from hearing that.

I keep seeing assurances that, "Oh, no, AI is just a way of making employees work more efficiently. It's like a bigger version of Excel."

But I suspect that corporations are embracing it because it allows CEOs to follow the latest trend, fire employees, and because AI will reflect their own thinking and not get uppity.

Was fatal US strike on Venezuelan 'drug boat' legal?

Maybe a fatal US strike on the BBC is in order.

We've already had a federal judge block deporting unaccompanied minors, even when both their nation of origin and their parents (living in their nation of origin) want them back.

94 Pixy, great to read you have lost the excess fluids. I was in a similar state recently - dropped 4lbs/day for a number of days until I reached my "dry weight". Note your dry weight and now be careful to not get dehydrated.

103 Pritzker says he's going to fight the National Guard being in Chicago. I wonder just what he means by that?
Posted by: Ben Had at September 03, 2025 06:52 AM (mFSH6)

I presume he means he is either going to forbid the NG from operating in Illinois, daring Trump to overrule him, or he will instruct the Chicago police to hamper and / or otherwise prevent the Guard from deploying or acting.

I think he is betting that neither Trump nor Homan have the stones to weather the optics of a sitting governor being arrested and imprisoned by the Guard. I'd like to say he's wrong, but I don't think we will see Pritzker in a 27X orange jumpsuit any time soon.

105 I think Boasberg is the de facto ringleader of the ongoing judicial coup. The Trump administration has taken to calling it a "coup" and I think it's past time they start to treat it as such.

Ship this clown to Gitmo for a couple of months and sweat him out. Might cause the other black robed savants to rethink their intentions.

Or not. There's plenty of room down there for all of them.

112 The real question is 'why do you want to create AI?' With no real-life experience or morality, or mortality, - AI is a language engine, a parrot.

Is the goal to create something to pass a Turing test or to create algorithms to control highly complex systems?

The point, ultimately, is to make a god. They want to build a god of their own creation (but, since it's a computer, without human weakness/foibles) to rule. Since it's "purely rational" they figure it will lead their utopia.

Are you suggesting that hedonism by young people who've been trained to not consider the impact that their choices today may have on their future is only, and always, the result of demonic infuence?

Yes. She's outlining behavior that any Christian would have recognized as sinful and authored by the Adversary until the last few decades, when Christians became embarrassed by their own religion and started pretending evil was something else. A festival organized around "constant orgies" and the consumption of drugs "in staggering quantities" is demonic on its face. Modern Christians need essay-length think pieces on this because they believe in nothing. It's very dumb.
