  • How to break security on any modern LLM-based AI system: Just keep nagging it with idiocy until it gives up. (The Register)

Because of the many things that LLMs are not, high among them is security models:
"The most practical mitigation today is not to rely solely on the model for safety. We advocate for a 'defense-in-depth' approach, using external systems like AI firewalls or guardrails to monitor and block problematic outputs before they reach the user. A more permanent, though much more difficult, solution would involve building safety into the model's foundational training from the ground up."
LLMs inherently have no concept of security; they at best pretend that they do.

If you want any kind of security, you have to implement it using something else. LLMs offer no security themselves and never will.

How Those Early Atari Computers Worked

Strangely.

They had a sort of precursor to the Amiga's "Copper" hardware that automatically reconfigured things inside the hardware, and used it to create visual effects that were not directly possible for the limited hardware.

10 Speaking of AI. A jazz pianist is given samples of a jazz pianist playing. His mission is to figure out if the sample was played by a human or AI. Play along, it's fun! I got all five samples correct but I do have to say the AI versions are extremely good. Without an immediate comparative sample, I would be pressed to know the difference. What does get lost in this whole exercise is how well AI is able come up with solos even if they are derivative.

18 More on The Little Queen OF Scots.

From Aesthetica on X:

I spoke with the mom of one of the girls (Mayah) and got the entire story that the media is covering up and lying about.

So first of all, the reporting got the names of the girls mixed up. There were 3 girls who were there who were accosted and attacked by the migrants.

Lola - Lola is the hero from the video. She's the one with the axe defending her sister from the migrant attackers

Ruby - Lola's older sister who was attacked and hospitalized

Mayah - Ruby's best friend who was with them and went to call the police after Ruby was attacked by the migrants

Here's the summary of what happened from Mayah's mother:

1/2

Posted by: RickZ at August 28, 2025 04:48 AM (gKDq2)

19 "Yes. So what happened was the girls where out just walking and the man in the picture made comments to lola(the younger girl) calling her sexy and other sexual remarks then the girls started to tell this man to leave them alone and stop following them and making sexual remarks to them. After that the man's sister (also in the picture) came around the corner and physically attacked ruby(the older sister) she grabbed her hair dragged her to the floor started to punch her then both the man and woman where kicking her in head while she was on the floor. At this point my daughter (mayah) called the police so my daughters account after that is all abit blurry. But that is when lola had the weapons she pulled them out to protect ruby. After that the man came back at lola recording her making sure she showed the weapons to the camera and antagonising her. Ruby was hospitalised after the attack with a severe concussion a tennis ball sized lump to the back of her head aswell as lots of bruises."

End.

29 Muriel Bowser, during the height of the George Floyd Insanity, converted a city street into a Black Lives Matters Mall. And in case somebody wasn't getting the point she had painted in bright yellow 10 ft tall letters "Black Lives Matters." If I remember correctly after that, she spouted a bunch of vile leftist ideological nonsense. That she is eating crow is delightful. My take is she's playing the game so she doesn't lose her job.

30 I wasn't paying a lot of attention to be honest, but i had the impression all along that Bowser wasn't intending to kick up much of a fuss from day one. I don't think she has been very aggressive in opposing Trump's moves, just a handful of tepid press conferences.

Now, that could be because she hasn't, or it could be because i haven't been paying attention. I don't know. I'm not a biologist.

It really started in 1963 with the Community Mental Health Act. Except Congress did only half of what they needed. The original plan was to move people out of large institutions where they were warehoused and into smaller community centers where they could get more and better treatment.

Guess which half they ignored!

Not quite, the period stuff I’ve read, one of the things they did, skeptics were assured that a bunch of new drugs would allow the mental cases to function in society.

59 Wow, the "Is it real or is ity MEMX2000 V20.25" clip was very interesting. I was pretty sure on 3 of the 5 but two of them I could hsave been stumpted on. For me the clips were way too short. I'm pretty sure if I listened to the entire solo, it would be obvious.

I've done a lot of jazz soloing and one of the important aspects is how it "flows" from one musical idea to the next and how the two ideas are related and evolve. You can even mess with this and make the transistions very abrupt on purpose but you can feel that there is a human hand/mind involved slapping you around.

I am impressed at what I heard but there is no way an AI presentation could knock me over like listening to Oscar Peterson, especially live. The masters's get inside your mind and push you around. I don't think a model can do this as well. It just might be a matter of time, though.

But generally the clips were too short to give me what I felt was an accurate assesment. I felt I was guessing too much.

They will never be used again under total Democratic control, Most were probably built in the 1950's back when a mentally ill person could be 'warehoused'. Now they just wander the streets enjoying the freedom to do what they want.

Either that or the cooler manufacturers need to get better at designing the cold plates for AMD.

Zen 5 owners might want to consider something similar if they’re running heavy loads on their systems.

I’ve been saying for years a normal American people “strike” would have fixed a lot of this a long time ago.

90 Yes, it is. It's about the *lack* of guns -- among the sensible citizenry who would deter this kind of gunman from trying anything, or would shoot him like a rabid canine when he did attempt killing.
Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at August 28, 2025 05:41 AM (omVj0)

I always make this argument, and it actually works on people who have never really thought about the issue beyond "guns are icky":

Do you really want to live in a nation where gun confiscation was 100.0% effective? Do you really want to live in a place where it is physically impossible to possess a firearm without being arrested and imprisoned, because they *will* find it, immediately?

No?

Well, then, you're going to have "gun violence", because if it is at all possible, then the crazy bastard who wants to murder people will find a way to get that gun, even if he has to make it himself. Or he'll use some device that isn't a "firearm" by whatever definition is in vogue.

If you simply say "if guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns", they glaze over because they know those are Killing Words and simply pretend they don't mean anything. But if you explain it differently, sometimes it lands.

99 While the President has not ruled out sending the National Guard to Baltimore to maintain peace, Maryland Governor Wes Moore has firmly opposed the idea. "Donald Trump. If you are not able to walk our communities, keep our name out of your mouth," Moore said during a press conference.

Like Moore is out walking in Baltimore, himself?

Trump can’t say “Baltimore” unless he walks the streets of Baltimore?

Thirding this, but I'd also like to draw attention to this factor: If you have been seen, and your doctor hasn't taken this with the seriousness that it needs to be, hie thee hence to an emergency room and tell them your doctor looked at this, but you want a second opinion, because there's obviously something bigger going on and it's getting worse with a quickness.

Fifthing this. Hubby had horribly swollen foot, misdiagnosed as gout but was actually a cellulitis infection. He was septic by the time the docs figured it out and had to be in the ICU a couple days. I would think your blood tests would pick up an infection but make the doctors take it seriously and not hand wave it away.
