60 The only less than smart cat I've ever known was little Oreo, the long-haired tuxedo girl I adopted from a cat show in '02. She was not purebred, but she had some Persian in her, I think. Pink nose, green eyes, black and white coat, the perfect tuxedo cat, very sweet. And she was not young. But she knew where the food, water, and litter box were, and where my lap was. Not much more a loved indoor cat needs to know.

During Katrina, though, we bugged out with her and Linda's two cats, Marie and Angelique. Those two played rough with Oreo and stole her food like raptors pouncing on prey from two sides. I had to feed her separately and make sure she got enough chow. I imagined her wondering, "Why is he letting this happen to me?"

Sauce: Internet

So what happened to Arthur Treacher's? Mostly a string of bad luck. The British-style chain was dependent on using the fish traditionally used in fish and chips: cod. In the mid-70s, a political showdown between Iceland and the U.K. that spiralled into an event known as the Cod Wars led to the closing of fishing zones, and the price of cod skyrocketed in the States. In 1979, Arthur Treacher's was bought by frozen fish-stick brand Mrs. Paul's.

The new owners wanted to cut costs and boost the sales of their own pre-existing products at the same time. This led to a switch from cod to pollock

76 Speaking of cleats and bikes. I bought a cheap, used stationary exercise bike at a yard sale. I just wanted something I could pedal once in a while in between using it to hang coats on. I mean, why overpay for a glorified coat hanger, you know?

The damn thing has gnarly teeth on the pedals. WTH? I'm in the house either barefoot or in socks and these things hurt! This bike is the bare minimum to be an exercise bike, so I don't know why they thought people would need maximum grip on the pedals.
