Posted by: polynikes at August 26, 2025 08:13 PM (EYmYM) ++++ Yup. The market decided that Cracker Barrel will be an object lesson. Sucks to be them. This happens fairly frequently during major shifts. It's usually most visible in the stock market rather than at retail, but it isn't *that* weird. When the tech bubble imploded, the market went from rewarding everyone with "dot com" in their name to trying to destroy every high-tech enterprise. The strongest survived. The rest - some of which were certainly viable businesses - were destroyed. This is not directly analogous, but it's best not to make decisions that will expose you to a market that wants blood. Sometimes - like the dot com collapse - you don't have a choice. Sometimes - like Proctor and Gamble, AB InBev, Cracker Barrel and so on - you *do* have a choice and make the wrong one. CB has the same problem as Butt Like: both are in a super-competitive industry with low profit margins and a very mobile clientele that has 10 options either in the liquor store rack 5 feet away or the street 5000 feet away. Once you lose them, they ain’t going back.
This isn’t a luxury good market where prestige and Veblen status can carry shit products or bad PR. There are luxury car companies — Lotus, Aston, Maserati — that haven’t made a competitive product in literally decades, but they are still considered valuable brands. But for how much longer, I’m skeptical. Posted by: Elric the Bladiest Blade at August 26, 2025 08:20 PM (59k2u) 119

JUSTICE DEPARTMENT SETTLES RACE DISCRIMINATION LAWSUIT AGAINST CRACKER BARREL RESTAURANT CHAIN, Monday, May 3, 2004
WASHINGTON, D.C. - "The Department of Justice today announced the filing and settlement of a lawsuit alleging racial discrimination against African-American customers by Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc., a nationwide family restaurant chain. In the agreement, memorialized in a consent order filed with the United States District Court for the Northern District of Georgia, Cracker Barrel commits to implementing far reaching changes to policies and practices, to prevent discrimination." (Much more). “To discriminate on the basis of race in the provision of food and service tramples most gravely not only the civil rights laws, but also our nation’s promise of equality,” said R. Alexander Acosta, Assistant Attorney General for the Civil Rights Division. “We take discrimination in the provision of food and services as seriously today as we did when the Civil Rights Act was passed almost 40 years ago. Where we find evidence, as we did here, that individuals of any race are receiving anything less than full and equal access to public accommodations, we will act.” Posted by: L - No nic, another fine day at August 26, 2025 08:28 PM (NFX2v) 141

The Justice Department’s complaint alleges that Cracker Barrel violated Title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by engaging in a pattern or practice of discrimination against African-American customers and prospective customers on the basis of their race or color. Specifically, the complaint alleges that Cracker Barrel: - allowed white servers to refuse to wait on African-American customers; - segregated customer seating by race; - seated white customers before African-American customers who arrived earlier; - provided inferior service to African-American customers after they were seated; and - treated African-Americans who complained about the quality of Cracker Barrel's food or service less favorably than white customers who lodged similar complaints. ---- Wasn't familiar at all with CB at that time. The Justice Department’s complaint alleges that Cracker Barrel violated Title II of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by engaging in a pattern or practice of discrimination against African-American customers and prospective customers on the basis of their race or color. Specifically, the complaint alleges that Cracker Barrel:
- allowed white servers to refuse to wait on African-American customers; - segregated customer seating by race; - seated white customers before African-American customers who arrived earlier; - provided inferior service to African-American customers after they were seated; and - treated African-Americans who complained about the quality of Cracker Barrel's food or service less favorably than white customers who lodged similar complaints. ---- Wasn't familiar at all with CB at that time. Yeah, the idea that any authority would arrest THE GIRL really fries me. Any adult male has no business even approaching obviously underage girls they don't know on the street to talk to them. Any adult male that doesn't instinctively know that doesn't belong in polite society. I guess at some point we will see if non elite class native UK people have a breaking point or if the centuries of knuckling under to their upper classes have conditioned them too much. CaliGirl, what fun. Yes, there was Harry Rose Sr and Jr. The Vaquero method of training is every bit as much an art as the Spanish Riding School.

I missed the last thread, but no — the Brits will not keep their country. They already gave it away to violent, pedophile CHUDs, and the CHUDs ain’t giving it back. It’ll take French Revolution-level violence and blood to take it back. Ain’t happening.

I am reminded of part of our hymns IRise up, O men of God! Have done with lesser things; give heart and soul and mind and strength to serve the King of kings. Reviewed the handing video.
It didn't explode until it had fallen over completely. First explosion was near the forward section, followed by the main body uploading. The tiles were indeed glowing red hot when it landed. I really didn't expect that. I'm afraid that is going to be a problem. The remaking cryos are going to superheat non-uniformly and overpressurize everything. Not good. Don't ask me how I know. I know because In was there when some NASA idiot ordered us (a subcontractor) to test a 600 gallon carbon fiber tank full of superheated liquid nitrogen to failure.
NASA broke literally every safety rule it ever had when they did that. It was so egregious and insane that no one really believes it really happened. NASA did a great job of covering it up. I actually lost my job in the aftermath due to retaliation for trying to stop the test before it started. The whole story is mind blowing. I fucked up when I buckled under and shut up when my job was threatened by my boss who I was reporting my concerns to.. I was a Licensed Professional Engineer at the time. Should have gone to the AG but I'm sure I would have lost my job after that anyway. Guy almost got cut in half by a flying roll up door. So now you know just one of the reasons I trash talk NASA everytime I have a chance. Posted by: pawn at August 26, 2025 10:09 PM (Tx/gC) Processing 0.03, elapsed 0.0277 seconds. |
