8 >>>99,000 AI-generated songs are uploaded every day - including fake ones by established artists. (BBC)

from the ONT, on a somewhat similar topic:

24 Coming after World War II, the 1950s finally allowed people to take a sigh of relief as they began recovering from years of economic decline, conflicts, and battles. It was a period characterized by significant change, which was reflected in new styles and inventions. The rock and roll music and mindset also emerged in the early to mid-1950s, which made the decade that much more full of energy and fascinating attitudes.

>>Untenable is correct.

It looks like most of the recent takedowns are from Universal Music Group.

I know these music rights holders are greedy little pigs, but you would think they would be satisfied with simply taking the money and be happy with what is essentially free advertising for moribund artists but no.

It would seem the same types that would muck around with the Cracker Barrel logo and aesthetic are the same kinds of people running these publishing groups.

Awesome! Chase down his visit to Abbey Road. It's a great video! I have a ticket to go see Sir Paul in San Antonio in November. It will be my third time seeing him with the band he's had since 2000. Out of all the concerts I've seen over the years, these three stand head and shoulders above all the others. It's not even close.

I've been watching Beato before Beato was a thing.

I've seen both Paul and Ringo in concert.

Those cats are consummate professionals and put on one hell of a show.

I would have thought Beato would have leveraged his friendship with Greg Bissonette to get an interview with Ringo, but that shows you what a pro Beato is that he has not done that.

AI video is almost there: can’t tell fake from real.

Losing our last method of post-hoc verification is no joke.

When technology makes something easy, it can also knock down load-bearing obstacles where the difficulty was a safeguard. That’s what causes the transition chaos.

46 I have a Garmin Epix Gen 2 Standard and it is an excellent smart/sports watch except for the weight. This sent me off. Looking for a much thinner and lighter alternative. Not wanting to spend $250 to $500 I went looking for $100ish watches. My expectations were really low but since I only wanted something for basic smartwatch functions I was willing to accept something that was rather compromised. Remarkably didn't have to go down that rabbit hole.

The Amazfit Active 2 Is a remarkably polished smartwatch especially since it costs $100 to $130. Even better it gets 10 days of battery life. The deep dive, high quality reviews give this thing a thumbs up with the understanding that some of the software implementation is not as good as it could be. But for a hundred bucks, what the hell? So I bought one. Yowers. I'm impressed.

Here is the Desfit review. If you are an Android user this should be on your shopping list if you are in the market for an entry/Budget smartwatch.

49 I am grateful that doggy duty is over because the congregant returned safely from his cruise. The dogs were small and friendly ( except that one hid under the bed quite a bit) but looking after dogs when you're not used to them. and traveling back and forth to do so to another town was a bit tiring .We didn't ask for money and didn't expect any, but the owner gave us half of what he would have paid for a kennel which I thought was very kind of him. We are giving much of it to the church.

I wrote about "MechaHitler", which is about more than Grok when we view LLMs correctly: as remarkably powerful plausibility engines.

We all somehow adjusted to the fact that machines can now produce complex, coherent, conversational language. But that ability makes it extremely hard not to think about L.L.M.s as possessing a form of humanlike intelligence.

They are not, however, a version of human intelligence. Nor are they truth seekers or reasoning machines. What they are is plausibility engines.

My suspicion is that the vast majority of the people signing the petition are Indian.

It seems to have gone viral on X and the Indians there are just trying to protect one of their own from a 45 year prison sentence.

The guy who started the petition even has an Indian name.

Thankfully, Ron DeSantis does not represent the interests of Indians illegally in the U.S. who are driving a rig without the ability to speak English or follow instructions on highway signs.

81 Stirling still looks as if he's waiting for the hangover to pass, but he's not lying down. Good sign.

It's given little Dagny a chance to eat all of her breakfast bowl for a change. She usually eats about half, and then Stirling swoops down and gets the rest as well as his own. So I put some more dry chow down for her a little later. She's filling out and looking healthy, so I expect this is not a bad arrangement.

It just means something has gotten very popular, very quickly, spreading like a virus from one set of eyes and ears to another.

It’s a similar concept to what used to be “talking about around the water cooler” when something became popular and well-known.

That one is about YT and its mid-roll ads whether you monetize the channel or not.

According to Weather Underground, humidity there is 94%. Dew point is about 52.

Oddly, the humidity is down here, though.

95 I doubt the guy would get 45 years anyhow.
They’ll probably plead down and he’ll get 10 or 15 years and be out in half that time for good behavior.

The Indians probably have the idea Singh is being treated this way because of American racism against brown people.

I don’t know why they’d think any different, because our media has made us all out to be KKK for so long to help the Dems.

People in foreign countries get most of their ideas about us from our media, which we’ve mostly learned is lies.

Kids in Norway, for example, think the U.S. is majority black because they’ve watched so many woke shows over the past 15 years.

97 I know what the term "going viral" means. But what threshold has to be crossed to consider the popularity of something to be "viral?" A thousand views? A million downloads? A billion? And I'm increasingly suspicious of those types of purported numbers. It seems they are becoming increasingly easier to fake. It's been at least five years, but I remember reading that you could pay a free lance computer nerd to write a short piece of software for you that would artificially increase the number of views shown for your YouTube video. X dollars for Y views.

Some people claim Listerine is good to kill toenail fungus.

Kills bacteria in your mouth, so maybe it will help.

At least your toes will taste nice and minty fresh.

101 There are a metric crap-ton of fake videos on youTube. And all it takes is one that you click on to now have them ALL in your feed. And, a bunch of them are actually lying - claiming "These songs were banned, blah, blah, blah" and such. It's worse than Wikipedia.

It’s my perception that whatever is trending on X or TikTok gets noticed.

Then, after enough producers in media see it, or their kids see it and show it to them, it then becomes a story which is filtered and spread more through mainstream tv and web media.

That’s basically it.
The media picks it up and it’s labeled “viral” regardless of actual view counts, legitimate or not.

105 YouTube is also being filled to the brim with crappy AI generated videos, that are supposedly about some interesting topic, to me anyhow, which are mostly reading some basic information about a subject with stock photos or video in the background and an AI announcer voice repeating the same information over and over phrased slightly differently to pad the time out longer and get more ad revenue because of the total length.

I watch space, history, and current events videos a lot and the site is lousy with that type of crap now.

108 X got inundated with Indians months back when Elon started payouts for high view counts.

So the Indians joined in droves and just type nonsensical stuff out, and all of their thousands of followers see it, then repost it, and before you know it tens of thousands of views and Elon is making a payout.

So millions of Indians sit on X all day posting one or two word posts then repost each others stuff and view it all so they can all make money off of X basically spamming the site.

I’m sure they’ve gotten bots involved as well.

People noticed and X stopped payouts or raised the amount of views for payouts in India be sure they were scamming the system like they do with everything else they touch.

I think that also helps explain why the Singh Trucker petition went viral.
