The Morning Report — 8/18/25

BorshtBelted.jpg

Good morning kids. First up, a state of emergency and mandatory evacuation orders have been issued in North Carolina as Hurricane Erin churns off the coast. Prayers for all who may be in any area that could be impacted. Stay safe.

Elsewhere, with the Trump Putin Alaska Summit wrapping up without any major deal to end the fighting in Ukraine (as we had suspected), all that the propagandists could focus on was the threat to national security because a gift list and the menu were found in the hotel printer!

So now, the President is going to meet with corrupt comedian Shecky Zelensky. Look let's face it, the only way the war is going to end is by Ukraine officially ceding the territory lost to Putin. And thankfully President Trump seems to be standing firm on nixing the prospect of NATO membership for Ukraine. That, plus NATO's encroachment towards Russia ever since the fall of the Berlin Wall, despite previous administrations guarantees that that would never happen were one of the factors, along with hundreds of years of historic Russo/Ukrainian confrontation and animosity as well as American and western interference via the color revolution engineered by Victoria Nuland and the Obama crew that overthrew a popularly and freely elected Putin friendly president.

I hope that President Trump does not agree to anything that might entangle us in a conflict that has absolutely zero impact on American national security. Yes, Putin invading Ukraine and the ensuing bloodshed was and is abhorrent. But, it's not our fight. If the soon to be Islamic Republic of E-U-istan wants to get their hair mussed with Putin, that's their affair.

Elsewhere in the world, and in a region that has much more importance to our security, some positive news for a change out of Latin America:

'Socialism defeated' — Bolivia boots its ruling leftists after 20 years in power — Hell has frozen over in Bolivia -- which is often a bellwether for the direction of South America's politics. . . The report notes that several conservative candidates didn't make the final cut for the runoff, Quiroga has been around for a long time, and Paz is a moderate. But something like this represents progress, given the long grip socialism has had on the battered Andean country, which is known for its valuable natural resources. And to read the article, Paz doesn't sound like a moderate -- he sounds pretty conservative, seeking to let markets determine prices.  Meanwhile, the performance of the socialists in office over 20 long years was execrable . . . I'm just surprised the ruling socialists didn't rig the election enough to keep themselves in power. The article describes how Morales and other leftists have sought to spoil their ballots ahead of the coming runoff, but that's a rearguard action that won't work.

Well perhaps 40 years from now, we'll cheer socialism's final defeat in NYC as a geriatric Mamdani is wheeled out of Gracie Mansion. Unless he goes the way of Ceaucescu before that.

On another front, as the geschrei and handwringing over both the calling out of the National Guard to combat crime in Democrat controlled criminal breeding grounds also known as cities continues, we also have the predictable and disgusting threats against our President from the usual quarters. Not just on this issue but on every issue under the sun where President Trump's agenda and its wild successes have exposed the Democrats as the inept, incompetent and criminal tyrants that they are.

State Rep. Justin Pearson (D-TN) claimed that his party needed to pull out all the stops and fight back against Republicans — to whom he referred alternately as “fascists” and “neo-confederates” — and argued that it wouldn’t matter in the long run what they were willing to do as long as they won.

Pearson was ousted from his position in the Tennessee House when he helped lead his party’s efforts to “occupy” the State House in protest, and then was reinstated days later — after claiming that he’d been forced out by “racists.” During his appearance with MSNBC’s Ali Velshi, he discussed the current state of American politics — particularly with regard to redistricting battles and Governor Gavin Newsom’s (D-CA) plan to “fight fire with fire.”

Does this tedious yammering eggplant not know he and his ilk are outgunned and outnumbered, figuratively and dare I say it, quite literally. Let's leave it at that.

Meanwhile, with corrupt hack-in-black judges along with crime and illegal aliens running wild in the streets, the implications of this story strike a chord, at least with me:

People have showered an alleged car thief in a California jail with donations after she beat up a fellow inmate who is charged, along with her husband, with torturing and killing her eight-year-old stepdaughter.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. But, when people feel that the justice system rewards/coddles criminals and is tilted against honest and decent people, I guess this kind of thing is to be expected.

Certainly where this kind of thing happens:

This Man Dodged Prison For Beating Two Pro-Lifers. Biden Jailed Pro-Lifers Over Peaceful Protests. Dozens of peaceful pro-life protesters were targeted during the Biden administration.

I think my point has been made.

And lastly, a quick shout-out and thank you for your continued support in hitting our tip jar. It truly is appreciated more than you can know.

16 Indigenous scientists are chronically underfunded internationally: they often receive fewer academic fellowships and research grants than their white colleagues do4. For example, in the United States, between 1996 and 2019, white principal investigators were consistently funded by the National Science Foundation at higher rates than were principal investigators of colour.

40 BehindTheBlack says the X37B launch in two weeks will be lit:

The eighth mission of the X-37B Orbital Test Vehicle will launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, designated USSF-36, with a wide range of test and experimentation objectives. These will include demonstrations of high-bandwidth inter-satellite laser communications technologies and enhanced space navigation using the highest performing quantum inertial sensor in space.
--------------------------

Not knowing what qualifies as a "quantum" inertial sensor, I asked an AI and got the following (which might interest no one at all, but you never know...)

A quantum inertial sensor is a device that uses principles of quantum mechanics, such as atomic interferometry, to measure acceleration, velocity, and rotation with high precision. These sensors can provide accurate navigation and positioning without relying on external references like GPS, making them valuable for applications in aerospace and defense.

newsome is blaming Trump as the illegal came into the country in 2018 when Trump was president. Problem with that is the fact that newsome and all of the other democrats had Trump's border policy tied up in the courts until the end of 2018 and Trump was unable to close the border because of those lawsuits and injunctions against him.

The younger generations despise Social Security because it has been so utterly corrupted from its original purpose into yet another entitlement program. I get it.

But these same people are voting for socialism, others paying off tens of thousands of their personal debts, paying for their healthcare, daycare, subsidizing their housing so they can skip the "starter home" and go straight to what Mom and Dad have; they begged to be robbed over Climate Change, will fight until tazed to keep tens of millions of illegal aliens, and were willing to kill the elderly in the name of Covid.

Its hard to show any sympathy for their argument when it is basically a quest to steal more now than what they claim the genuine beneficiaries of SS would like to receive from their lifelong confiscated wages.

70 I can understand the abundance of caution over hurricane Erin in N.C. I think it's really more about appearances than anything else after the shit ton of bad press the state (and federal) governments got for their previous lack of response.

And hurricanes have proven to be "unpredictable" so it's possible, if not likely, that elevated tides and high winds could cause some issues.

All it takes is one or two publicized deaths....

129 It takes about 30 seconds of coding to prevent the operator from SAVING a new record that is incomplete (eg last 4 SS#).

Its not the actual coding that is the problem, its the numerous meetings to agree on the use-case, then for the PO to submit the proper User Stories with an Acceptance Criteria to be posted on the board to be picked up the developer only after the architect has fully research the impact, integration and fully documented a Gherkin for the developer to work from.

Then the developer after making the simple change must create a battery of automated unit tests, integration tests and then submit a Pull Request which must be reviewed by at least one senior developer/architect, then demonstrated for PO acceptance, promoted to a QA environment for testing and certification before being moved to UAT, integrated with customer applications before being promoted to production.

Probably 5-10 story points during a sprint.

But these same people are voting for socialism, others paying off tens of thousands of their personal debts, ... and were willing to kill the elderly in the name of Covid.*

It wasn't the yoots killing off granny during covid. As for the socialism aspect, that seems to be, primarily, big city wymmins.

Its hard to show any sympathy ... lifelong confiscated wages.*

I suspect that any system to get rid of SS would require the yoots to pay their entire lives for a benefits they'd never see a penny of so my sympathy comes a bit easier.

145 [Awesome food. Too bad what once was a cheap byproduct cut of cow (skirt steak) has been elevated to premium prices. I look at restaurant fajitas with wistful longing and remembrance back to a time in the 1980s.

The price difference between skirt-steak and filet mignon is now at the point I use the latter when preparing fajitas at home. It truly makes a far more enjoyable experience.

@CollinRugg

Former FBI Director and 'Swiftie' James Comey releases a 5-minute video talking about how Taylor Swift inspires him and how she helps him deal with Trump.

"At my second Taylor Swift concert in Hartford, CT, 14 years ago, she sang a song about this topic, asking..."

"Why you gotta be so mean?" Comey said while quoting Swift's 2010 song 'Mean' as he discussed how mean people on X are.

It's truly mind-blowing that this man served as the FBI director.

147 No One From Gaza Should Be Coming to the U.S., Period

--

You just know some Trump-resistor(s) in the State Dept have been quietly letting them in under the radar. Now that it's been exposed that whole families have come for medical care (aren't there literally dozens of other, closer countries they could've gone to for medical care?), will they get their care and be sent back?

If Biden or Harris were president, half of Gaza would already be here. They'd make sure of it.

A long time ago, Brooks worked for the National Review. So he slid into William Safire's NYT post (who was actually a conservative of sorts) when he died. Same as the tired and tedious claims of the Weakley Standard crew and David French that something they did decades ago warrants them being the conscience of the conservatives playing to liberals (and taking leftist money to do so).

National Review has went down that road as well as to become unreadable. Basically these individuals and organizations figured they would rather get paid to pecksniff than to be truly of the right.

150 Notably, the left never really dwells on the likely 1.5 million dead, wounded, missing, and captured from three and a half years of war. It is a humanitarian nightmare, a modern Stalingrad that makes Gaza look like child’s play.

Not only that but the Progs would take another million or so dead white Europeans over a ODT win.

Trump showed up where others wouldn’t, engaged directly with the adversary, and extended a genuine offer of peace. That takes courage and conviction. Sometimes just showing up gets you the desired results.

I would probably go with:

For people 55+...
- above some level of personal liquid resources (say, $5MM), you just lose SS (sucks, but it's gonna suck for everyone)
- next level down, you get some percentage of SS but less than you should
- next level down, you get SS but COLA is smaller

For people 35-55...
- SS is capped, amount lowers for younger folks

For people
- you don't get SS, period, but the amount you have to pay in taxes towards it goes down for younger folks.

Everyone has pain. It'll never work, though, because most older folks will not accept giving up anything. It's almost as if the people who designed the system counted on that.

The article notes that CrowdStrike was involved in the "investigation" of the DNC servers, rather than the FBI.

Last year plus some months ago, CrowdStrike made a major "oopsie", deploying an update that near-bricked almost every machine that was using the tech. Some of the larger systems that were impacted included airlines, causing further problems.

Now, we're getting drip drip drips of news and facts about the things we thought were true, indeed were true. Versus the sycophants telling us it was obviously not true (and are now moving onto the "and you deserved it" part).

Any chances the "bad oopsie" was actually intentional? Used to cover tracks on older hardware somewhere, by masking it as an unfortunate victim? Much like hiding a tree in a larger forest. Especially one that has been burned to the ground by "lightning and swamp gas".

Yes, this is a theory about conspiracy. But right now logical deduction from A->B->C has a pretty frick'n good track record right now, in opposition to the Experts that keep telling us it isn't.

Shot what you can shoot well. 45 acp (or 40 S&W) is not pleasant and is challenging in short barrelled (below 4 inch) polymer carry pistols and has little advantage ballistically doing so. Most of the 45 ACP carry ammo is designed around 4-5 inch barrelled service pistol types. To get the same terminal effect to expand hollow points, you often have to go lighter and faster to the 185 gr or to +p which aggravates the handling and shooting issues of light weight pistols.

9mm is a more efficient cartridge (literally as far as powder burn, etc.) in short barrels than the 45 and special short barrel ammo for 3 inch or so barrels is decent (Gold Dot among others).

You mentioned earlier not having a purpose in life. Forgive me if I misinterpreted that. It seems to me from what I've read ,you're not a person of religious faith If I read that wrong as well, I apologize. However, faith in God gives people a purpose in life unless they're burdened down by unrelenting depression. However you are important to more people than you may realize and not just because you may help to fund Social Security . That is true of everyone here who is also loved by God

This is an article from a Christian perspective about the purpose of life. For the people who complain basically about the entirety of womankind, this article was -I'm guessing -written by a man. If it's too Christ centered for you , maybe our Jewish posters can suggest a religious Jewish writer's thoughts on the meaning of life.

___________________________________

Imagine yourself as a smart leftist. You're basically Lisa Simpson. You go through school grubbing for grades, looking down on your "intellectual inferiors," with the system constantly praising you for being smart. You go to college, you get a degree, and then and advanced degree... Because the system tells you that are smarter and better than everyone else and your rewards are grades and acknowledgement from your teachers and professors of how smart you are.

Then, one of two things happen. If you have the right connections, you're given a position with power and lucrative remuneration. And you believe that being the best and the smartest you are entitled to dictate to your intellectual inferiors.

And if you don't have connections, well, you end up in an administrative and middle management role and you bitterly resent the system that denies you the status and money it promised you. The flaw cannot be you. You're smart and wonderful. All the teachers said so! It must be the system that is holding you back.

Either way, you end up a totalitarian socialist.

277 >>The article notes that CrowdStrike was involved in the "investigation" of the DNC servers, rather than the FBI.

Yup. IIRC, Crowdstrike was funded by google's Schmidt, and co-founded by a - get thus! - Ukranian dude. In 2016, Perkins Coie (Marc Elias) represented OFA, Hillary campaign, Google, Crowdstrike, and FusionGPs. Hillary's campaign used Marc Elias to launder payments to FusionGPs (she paid him for services that he obtained from his other clients, instead of directly contracting for the services herself).

It's quite a rabbit hole, with a lot of this information already mined by people like John Solomon, Mollie Hemingway, Jeff Carlson at the time it was happening. Glad it's finally getting out, with extra-d@mning details from Tulsi Gabbard that confirm it.

The flaw cannot be you. You're smart and wonderful. All the teachers said so! It must be the system that is holding you back.

Let me add another wrinkle in this...

If you get a degree in something worthless like Gender Studies, it doesn't prepare you for any actual job. So you might not even get one of those paper pushing jobs in this group.

And those people will argue vehemently "I have an advanced degree, I studied hard, I should be *paid* what I am worth not working as a barista"

And a good deal of this confusion is the difference between "I did well in school" and "I am providing a good or service people are willing to pay for"

Bills don't stop coming for older, retired people. I haven't heard any banks saying they are willing to forgive mortgages or other loans, not even reduce the loan amount.

No, they don't. And that's why the change, initially, would need to focus primarily on those who could afford to take the hit.

I hate progressive everything but it's the only way I can see to make it work. People will less get a bigger percentage of what they would have gotten. Older people, of the same means, get a bigger percentage of what they would have gotten. The young continue to pay into a system that's ripping them off even worse than it did to us, since they'll get nothing at all, but at a reduced rate.

That's a very romantic way of looking at it but I don't remember ever voting for SS nor do I remember running it. I've been deeply opposed to SS all my working life but nobody cared, they still took my money.

I don't view the situation as a zero sum game. We are currently taking in hundreds of billions, likely soon trillions, in new foreign tariffs. Stuff some of that money into the SS trust fund. This is all new "found" money that isn't going to cause any one group of Americans pain.

That is overstating the effectiveness of the 45 ACP. All handgun rounds are defective wimps compared with shotguns or rifle cartridges. To get hydrostatic damage, you need a certain level of energy that is unattainable in a handgun package. A 30 Carbine, 223 at short range, and of course even a 20 gauge buckshot load has a lot more power and velocity to cause severe damage internally than any handgun cartridge.

So we use hollow points in handguns which require a certain fps energy level to fully expand to help make a hole bigger causing faster blood loss.

Easier to make that shot than rely on a CNS stop which does benefit the slower and heavier bullet over the lighter one (which is why police departments often went to 147 grains in 9mm along with its subsonic sound level). The newest 147 gr in 9mm penetrate better but yet expand ok up to about 50-100 percent of the initial bullet diameter.

A 45 in a short barrel often does not expand past the .45 diameter unless using a 185 gr. hp in them which speaking of bullet expansion is about a wash with a 147 gr hp 9mm.

They rely on laundered money from forever wars and "aid." I think DOGE just scratched the surface, and it may be that more of the money the US government spends is essentially scammed, either by insiders (see bloated bureaucracy, every DC NGO) or common criminals.

Yes. But the reason is US oil production waned and we relied (and even more our allies did) upon Middle East oil to make the world go round. As we are now producing roughly double that output from the last figures I saw, it means freedom to separate from the whole mess in the sandbox in our foreign policy. Same as what should have happened in Euroland after the Soviets fell. Reset of foreign policies.

All the time. I think you're kind of making my case. It's not just leftists who don't want to see the government's promise broken, voters of all stripes don't.

Again, find new ways to bolster the system before suggesting more pain for average Americans. There are new streams of money pouring into DC. Use some of that money to bolster up the current shortfalls and run the system better going forward.

I'm all for reforming the system but not on the backs of people who have already paid into it for decades.

379 Key facts: Taylor allegedly applied for Medicaid in 2019 using the fake name Candace Sailor and claiming that she earned less than $4,000 per month. That application was denied, but she allegedly submitted a successful application the next year using the same alias.

Authorities said that, while on Medicaid, Taylor spent $100,000 at the exotic car dealership Tactical Fleet and made $45,086 in vehicle payments to Audi Finance. She also supposedly spent $13,000 to help pay for a 2022 Lamborghini Urus, which has a retail price of $229,495.

Other alleged purchases included cosmetic surgery and high-end jewelry. State agents said they found the purchases on Taylor’s tax return, and she also showed them off on social media. She lives in Slidell, a suburb outside New Orleans.

Taylor’s businesses allegedly generated $9.5 million of revenue from January 2020 to December 2024. Prosecutors say that Taylor’s bank account funds increased by $481,000 in 2020, even though she claimed no income on her Medicaid forms.

Yay! Enough of this EU/UK, Zelensky, NATO crap & USA last. Blinken, Jake Sullivan, and whoever else needs to be resettled so they're supremely happy with their new government, and pay their freight to settle them in Ukraine. (Don't tell me they don't have substantial "investments" there already.)

386 "That, plus NATO's encroachment towards Russia ever since the fall of the Berlin Wall, despite previous administrations guarantees that that would never happen..."

No such guarantees were ever given. The closest thing to a "guarantee" was a verbal statement from James Baker to the Soviets that NATO troops would not be stationed in East Germany.

Verbal, not written down. Not a written treaty. Not a written agreement from the American Executive branch.

Moreover, James Baker was not president at the time. Did he have the authority to issue such an assurance?

Even if he had been president, he wouldn't have had the authority to speak on behalf of NATO. That was a policy that the rest of NATO should have been consulted on.

At any rate, the assurance was given to the Soviet Union, which is a political entity that no longer exists.

387 "the Obama crew that overthrew a popularly and freely elected Putin friendly president."

True, Yanukovych did fairly win the final runoff election for the presidency. (Unlike his 2004 win, which was annulled due to fraud.)

But, IIRC, in 2010 he ran on a platform calling for Ukrainian EU membership. Once elected though, he turned on a dime and abandoned EU accession talks, seeking membership in the Russian trade bloc.

Ukrainians had as much right to feel betrayed by his volte-face as Trump voters would feel if he had continued Biden's immigration policies despite campaigning against them.

Then there was the matter of the 108 civilians he murdered during the Maidan protests. And his 140 hectare estate complete with Spanish galleon and private zoo that he stole from the state. (Not to mention the very minor issue of the $37 billion he and his cronies looted from the country.)

No love for Obama from me, but my heart doesn't bleed for the expulsion of Putin's precious puppet.
