A rabid CNNer bashes PDT over his picks of Gloria Gaynor and others as Kennedy Center honorees:
President Donald Trump would love cultural elites to sniff at his Kennedy Center honorees. He relished unveiling the stars he’ll fete at the iconic arts center’s annual gala later this year, after motorcading to the complex Wednesday through streets now patrolled, on his orders, by federal agents and army reservists. The line-up explains a lot about him, his power and why he’s president. https://archive.is/iWEJk Posted by: m at August 18, 2025 04:52 AM (aURVT) 23

Another reason for all of this crime crackdown in DC is the upcoming 250th Birthday of the USA. Lots of events are going to happen. Lots of tourists will be about. Cracking down on crime (long overdue) is smart.

the roller-skater in the Gloria Gaynor video:
The popularity of "I Will Survive" led to the label releasing the song as an A side. To support the single, a video shot at Xenon Discotheque in New York was released. It featured a roller skater – Sheila Reid-Pender from a local group called The Village Wizards – skate dancing on the dance floor. (Wikipedia) Posted by: m at August 18, 2025 05:02 AM (aURVT) 28
Felonious D's Kennedy Center honorees... Let the snobs sniff at them. If you've ever been to one of his rallies, the music playing is his playlist and it's pretty dope. The songs are all over the map but they're great songs. The guy's got a pretty solid sense of main stream popular culture. Who doesn't like Rocky?

I don't watch 'network' news and especially the Sunday morning sh*t show. All those women 'moderators' yell and scream that they aren't included in negotiations with Russia and Europe. Just so they can yell questions at the men who ignore them, which is good to see. Do people actually watch those shows anymore? Someone said they have 6 viewers, which probably includes the cats and dogs who sit in front of the TV with a puzzled look.

Yes and no. If you're using it for office apps, and web surfing you'll be fine. This machine will run circles around the one you have right now. And the battery life will amaze you. If I was paying full retail for a machine with 8 GB of RAM and a 256 GB SSD there's not a chance in hell I'd buy it. But at this price? For this kind of money, you're going to get a crappy iPad. Apparently the $599 price for the MacBook Air is a sale price -- it's normally $50 more. I wonder if that's the price in stores, $649? Once I pay my horrendous sales tax here, I'd be up over $700. How much are MB Airs usually?

Actually a tech related issue
My son arranged a date online which is apparently - according to a friend in her thirties - what many young people do nowadays. The woman said online, "I want to be a trophy wife" which had I been a male seeking a date/- would have made me raise my eyebrows, but he thought it was humorous . She also said she wanted to get married and have kids. O.k. She showed up with her mother and her brother who are from M.D. and they wouldn't let my son sit at their table. She apparently lied on her profile and she is 40, not 25. The rather funny bit was there was something wrong with his debit card, they paid for the three of them and husband came back of course to pay for him.Well, I guess she won't be contacting him anymore😉 I told him to consider a Faith based religious site, but that he should probably lay off internet dating sites I am thankful I met and dated people the usual way. I have performed a marriage service for a nice couple who met online but it seems fraught with possible problems. Grocery trip to the local chain store this am. Miss Linda located one of her ever-present coupons, which gives you $5.00 off if you spend $25.00 -- all too easy a thing to do anywhere these days.
Wed., I have the follow-up with the surgeon, and Linda has a lecture on genealogy at the suburban library she wants to attend that evening. Sounds like a snore fest to me. This weekend we ran into an old friend of mine whose uncle plays piano at a wine bar in the old section of the next town over, and he mentioned a trivia night Friday at the German-American Center in the city itself. Is Wi-Fi bad for the environment? Eye-catching London ad suggests Wi-Fi is ‘damaging the climate’
subhead: The ad seemingly says that Wi-Fi is bad for the environment, but its makers just want you to look closer. A PhD student shared a photograph of an ad for the University of East London, implying that Wi-Fi is detrimental to the environment (h/t vx-underground). The poster says, “WiFi doesn’t grow on trees. Your screen time is damaging the climate.” Although it’s easy to assume that it’s telling us that wireless networking is bad for the environment, a second look at the message focuses more on the time we spend in front of our phones, tablets, smart TVs, and computers, rather than on the Wi-Fi transmission itself. https://archive.is/yUsEF Aren't they clever. Women on tiktok talking about how they go on as many dates as possible every week just to get free dinners, inviting friends on dates and expecting the man to pay, etc. They, seemingly, spend a lot of time trying to one-up each other for being the worst person in the world all while singing the feminist refrain of "I don't need no man". Posted by: m at August 18, 2025 06:20 AM (aURVT) Nice one from the comments, tho: Notton I think the ad is too clever for its own good. je ne sais quoi, "worded smugly" I'm not saying it's a 1:1 comparison to the age old proverb "A schemer is sometimes caught in his own trap", but to quote George Carlin, "Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that." Most people will look at that ad, get outraged because of the wording, and then never think or look any further into it. Posted by: m at August 18, 2025 06:33 AM (aURVT) 90

The best place to meet nice women is at church.
I met my wife at a "Hippy Mass." I also know several Baptist men that married Catholic women and are still happily married into their 70s. Posted by: no one of any consequence at August 18, 2025 06:35 AM (ZmEVT) 92

75 I comment on other sites and have not seen some of the changes that have happened here. Color changes, autocorrect turns on and off.
The comment box going bold is a feature but it changing colors is new. And autocorrect started up after I noted a different change in formatting and turned off after I commented about it being on when I have turned off in settings. Is pixy getting ready for 0.9 beta? And autocorrect turned back on when I was typing about it going on and off. This is the only site I have seen these odd changes. Lenovo chromebox running chrome browser. Posted by: FenelonSpoke at August 18, 2025 06:30 AM (2GCMq) Gross oversimplification incoming: Women today fall into three categories: 1. She recognizes that she wants to marry and have children. She understands the current difficulties surrounding dating and locks up a man as young as possible. Sadly, many of these will decide later that they "missed out on having fun" and so will divorce and suffer for it. 2. She wants to "enjoy" her youth. She don't need no man except to have sex with an endless parade of them. Since she's not looking to settle down, she screws guys she could never land and decides that all men are horrible because the ones who can get dozens of women to sleep with them... do. Eventually she decides to "settle" for someone who would have been on her level when she was 20 but she's so damaged that they're both miserable. 3. Lesbians. I would say that the Evangelical Church is not helping, but actually reinforces the "He is Always The Fault" relationships. (Pixy Limitations to two points) • Mother's Day - Women are wonderful, perfect and all are Proverbs 31 women • Father's Day - Women are responders, you sick twisted pervert, quit beating her every night and she might let you sleep somewhere other than the couch. Its because women decide what church the family goes to; the "pastor" is merely engaged in customer retention. Look how hard and fast the Evangelical Church stomped out the competing Promise Keepers when it started attracting millions of men because there is a desperate need for that kind of men's spiritual development. OK, a better customer service story while I am on a roll.
My parents and wife gave me gift cards for Duluth Trading Company. I finally sat down yesterday and placed my order. It charged my card without giving me an option to use the gift cards. I make the call and get a nice young lady on the other line. She explained that because I ordered on the website while I was logged into my account, it automatically assumed that I was just going to charge my card. So she ended up taking down the numbers for the gift cards, added a military discount and then opened up a ticket with the accounting team to correct the order. Interestingly, when it comes to reformed or confessional churches, its the man who decides - and the congregations are usually much smaller than the typical evangelical or Big Box. Then there is the third category which is the Roman Catholics, Anglicans, Episcopalians, Methodists, et al where it is family Tradition and familiarity that often has the greatest influence. The thing that is most common complaint from men is that women starve men of the few things they need but are critical to his well being such as nookie, respect and admiration. The women often transactional and trade for sex, or of the variety who enjoy sex and if she is having sex with you, she is having sex with others. The respect and admiration is the bait and hook that leads to the relationship, and then that drops off dramatically because human nature is such where I memory of bad things greatly exceeds our memory of good things, and the memories pile up until we hate each other. So men ran to Promise Keepers because it restored men's self-respect, reason-for-being, and spiritual growth. So naturally the women-driven churches killed it.
