Trump went after a couple media outlets with huge demands for damages. While those were reduced, the judgements still fell his way. I think Melania's following suit... so to speak. I finally saw the "live-action" Little Mermaid. I used scare quotes because at least half and probably closer to 2/3rd of the movie is pure CGI, and not even good CGI at that.
What was Disney thinking making this movie? While it’s not the woke disaster many people claimed, it was mid at best. Way too long, terrible casting all around, and literally every (pointless) change they made from the original made the movie worse.
The new songs? Crap. The rewrites to the original songs? Crap. The revisions to the characters and story? Double crap. They essentially wrote out the entire central love story, made Eric far less heroic and charismatic (oh and he's an orphan now?!), and made the whole thing slow and boring.

If the rumors are true and the Feds are about to take a stake in Intel the stock will go up a lot, as it's already doing.
Generally I'd be against this, but if Intel goes down the entire tech industry will be at the mercy of TSMC for cutting edge chips.
That can't happen, not just because of the monopoly, but because of that monopoly being based on an island the Chinese have been coveting for almost 80 years.
Intel needs to get the process nodes straightened out and working so they'll have some product to sell and they can pull out of this.
I just wonder who'll get the seat on the Intel board, Scott Bessent?

The original Dragon is wonderful, so a shot for shot remake will probably also be wonderful.
Hell, Ozu did a near shot for shot remake of one of his own movies.
I don't oppose it in principle, but my comment was more about how the current film critical community is largely populate by people with little larger framing of film history. There's some prominent critic who works for a major name (Newsweek? Maybe) who brags that he's never seen Casablanca. Brags about it.

Even if it's not your type of flick, Casablanca is considered one of the best American films of all time. If you're into film you have to watch it at least once just to see if you agree it's good.
Personally, I think it's a fine film - seen it a few times.
But to never have seen it is to miss all of the cultural references to that film that have happened ever since.

Divorce, Italian Style probably tops the list for comedies.
The grotesqueries of Fellini can be a bit much in certain instances (hold off on Satyricon until you're ready), but Nights of Cabiria is kind of that sweet spot between his Italian neo-realist roots and the more grotesque future ahead of him.

The Sullivan "public figure" doctrine won't save this nepocock. Sullivan isn't immunity for defaming public figures. It only means that the defamer must have a specific malicious intent. It's a terrible doctrine, and basically a free pass for defamers.

The Music Man is one of my favorite movies. Preston was perfect! They wanted a big movie name in that character, but "settled for the Broadway guy" who originated the role and defined it.
I'm not a real fan of musicals but that and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers have a home on my DVD shelves.

American government was finally persuaded that atomic research was vital, lest the Not sees get it first, and nuke the USA. Then they got a little sloppy, and the Soviets stole all the secrets, advancing their program by 5 years or more. (It took 4).
Then they reluctantly decided to build the Hydrogen bomb, thinking it was too dangerous for world piece. The Soviets followed with theirs within months, not years.
The Space program put the USA light years ahead of everyone else. Then, they threw it away, and NASA can’t even get into orbit 60 years later.
So much groundbreaking technology is designed and then they just have it stolen, or given away to our competitors. Even a marginally level playing field, America used to provide decent paying jobs, careers actually, in manufacturing things Americans needed to buy. Whether toasters or blenders or radios or TVs, America can’t even make Aspirin any longer, for the headaches that are sure to follow from a half century of dedicated offshoring and business strangling rules and regulations.

It was explained to me by a fairly hard man who went after extremely hard bastards: If they lip you off after you cuff them, you put their face in the window, and if they do it again, you aim for the pillar and uses some shoulder. They get away with lipping you off once you got them in control, they take it as permission to get more aggressive, so it is best to deal with it sooner.

All the LA remakes are partly money grabs, as another poster suggested, but also to protect the IP on the original hand-drawn animation, you know ... the one audiences actually like.
If the copyright on the original ever expires and it goes into public domain, the Mouse can enjoin independent viewings and seize revenues therefrom on the ground that the public domain original is substantially similar to the remake which is still protected.
IP is in our Constitution but it is one of the most twisted and corrupt aspects of American law, and deserves a thorough SCOTUS overhaul.
Look up the timeline on the expiration on Monsanto's patent for freon, and the U.S. Government's sudden finding that freon is a pollutant and can no longer be used, right as its production is about to fall into public domain.

Bikini was incredibly complex device that was not suited for any real world use. The Russians back engineered it from physics, engineering and isotopes captured from fall out, and made it a workable weapon

But for whatever reason, progressivism and belief in scientific based societies took hold in the public imagination during the 20th Century and much of the last part of the 20th and beginning of the 21st is fixing the wreckage left from people obsessed with historical determinism.

The reason was the Soviets couldn’t figure out how to miniaturize nuclear warheads, so they built large boosters to lift large warheads. These were immediately adaptable to a manned capsule. Meanwhile the US had miniaturized warheads so didn’t need massive boosters. Work on the Atlas family of rockets didn’t start until the late 1950s. Witness the hapless attempts by the US Navy to put a satellite in orbit with the Vanguard rocket. Luckily the US Army still had von Braun who launched Pioneer I with a modified Jupiter-C under the newly formed NASA auspices.

Democrats in office lie, lie all the time, and do so even when the contradictory evidence is right there to refute those lies. There are lies, damned lies, and every statement made by a Democrat in office deliberately. (They do tell the truth on occasion inadvertently or when in what they think are safe audiences).
Their problem is that only about 25 percent of the population buy those lies, the other part of the Dem coalition is gimmedats --they know what the Dems are promising are lies but they got paid.

Kennedy’s plan to use NASA to put a man on the moon and return him safely within a decade reminds me of the Great Western steamship of 1838. It and her competitor the SS Sirius were a generation ahead of the rest of their competitors in the transatlantic crossing trade and almost bankrupted their builders. Only later when Cunard launched the SS Parthia and the SS Bactavia in 1868 did the modern steamship era arrive, allowed by improvements in hulls as wood was replaced by iron, replaced by steel, and by improvements in the efficiency of steam engines (greater use of double acting vs. single acting cylinders, etc.). Something similar is going on in space travel. Early attempts, the 1960s, were one-offs that mostly worked, sometimes didn’t (the Soviet Nova booster). Now, generations later, re-usable boosters and upper stages are making commercial space flight a working proposition, engendered by improved technologies, without the need so much for direct government subsidies.
