There were single wagons coming out, it is what you did when you couldn't afford the train fare. One of Dad's older friends grew up in North Dakota about then, and mentioned there was an additional graveyard on the family ranch where a family in a wagon had camped for the night and were struck by lightning and killed them all. They buried them there on the hill because there was not much reason to bury them elsewhere.
He said they hadn't put in the railroad spur in his area until he was in grade school which he thought was positive since his dad could buy coal by the car, instead of having the kids go out and collect dried cow pies to burn over winter.

Annnnnddd...it was a nudist commune populated entirely by naked hippies, which supported themselves selling fresh-squeezed apple juice from all the apple trees grwoing wild on thier property.

Yeah. we made some apple juice with them, cranking the huge handle of the squeezing press in a circle, 8 people at a time.

Hygiene? Never heard of it.

He was floored that we went from Horse and buggy, to Men walking on the Moon, during his lifetime.

Note... my Son is now 33... and we have not had Men on the Moon during HIS lifetime.

209 In 1908 my great grandfather Frank took off on his own at 13 to find his dad. From Michigan to Washingtons lumber fields, hopping trains and shining shoes.
He returned 3 years later and only said he found him. He never told the whole story to my knowlege and he had money. Bought a farm and raised 8 kids. 5 of which made it to adulthood.

Crazy how we just abandoned space exploration after tragedies. But we knew space exploration was dangerous, NASA just tried to represent it as everyday, like having the schoolteacher contest and all that, basically space tourists. Space travel is not and never will be 'everyday', at least not in our lifetimes.

Grandpa caught measles and the doctor put a yellow flag on the door. Great Grandfather moved into the hotel because he couldn't be quarantined and still operate the quarry.
My other grandfather was the only child of 5 who lived past the age of 7. It was a combination of bad wells, poor luck, and worn out cropland.

I despise opportunists. And, while I admire ambition, there is such a thing as being too ambitious. There's no room left for humility.

I got annoyed at the bi-weekly mailings I was getting from some PAC pushing Nikki Haley really aggressively. It didn't make any sense. For someone who had her posterior royally handed to her in the previous primary, I couldn't understand where she was getting the funding for all the mailings.

So, I took advantage of the "ask a question" portion of the mailing and sent one back with this question: "Where are you getting all the money to deluge me and presumably many others with mailings? Did you hold onto previous campaign funds, or do you have a sponsor benefactor propping you up with lobbyist money?"

I never got another mailing from her.
