I've linked this video of a border collie playing volleyball a couple of times before, but this clip emphasizes the dog's happiness when he realizes they won the point.

I've also linked this, but in case you missed it: If your baby is crying, throw a slice of cheese on his head. Works every time.

America's Funniest Home Animal Videos.

No roughhousing in the pool!

This puppy must be saved: He's on his way to becoming a Theater Kid.

Dogs doing whatever is necessary to avoid bathing. Have they tried blogging?

Baby gorilla acting silly.

Never. Stop. Herding.

I repeat: Never. Stop. Herding.

Dog and baby discover they have a shared interest in filth.

Dog makes the bed (by dog standards).

Can he do it?

10 I remember learning in dog training class that dogs generally hate being kissed, especially aggressively. They interpret it as a muzzle punch. It's basically screaming "screw you, idiot, why do you suck at being a dog" in dog-ese.

I don't care though. He can just deal with it.

Because in human-ese, farting directly into someone's face does not exactly say "i love you hyoo-mann".

15 I’m surprised more people aren’t mauled by bears with all these bear families wandering into rural backyards. Does nobody know of these things called ‘fences’? Black bears are generally not aggressive like grizzlies, but if a momma black bear thinks she or her cubs are threatened (whether they really are or not) she will fight to the death. It won’t end well for the humans she thinks are threatening. Bears are monstrously strong and and powerful, and can outrun Usain Bolt.

Someone gave big Dan a kiss at a training class when he was a puppy. It quite ruined him for having a judge examine his head. A big handsome boy who was very light on his feet, but who hated to be shown because of this.

Utah, Wyoming, Colorado, and the rest are gorgeous. They don’t get the credit they deserve because they are in USA and no some exotic foreign country.

I went on a snowmobile tour in the Jackson Hole area with a girl from a tropical country who never saw snow until she was 16. It was alien beauty. She said ‘this looks like Narnia.’ Great line! I wish I thought of it. I’ve used the line myself many times.

I've had these comments here, with certain folks. Who cares ? I don't care about dudes that makes exponentially more money and would never sit at the table with me.

But that's the thing. People latch onto people. My wife went to GenCon ... and stood in line with this person and talked to that person and I do not understand it. She told me all about it.

But I also don't understand why anyone would wear any shirt, past their teen years, with another man's name on it. I don't understand the Trump thing. Didn't understand the Obama thing.

For any sky-watchers out there, I was reminded of the Perseids meteor shower peak tonight. There will also be a conjunction of Venus and Jupiter on the morning side. Best to look a couple hours before your local sunrise for that conjunction. Anyway, midnight to dawn is the best time to look for a meteor shower. As the name implies, the radiant for the Perseids is in Perseus.

For me at ~34.8N latitude that radiant point is just barely circumpolar, just skims above the horizon without setting. This will be high in the sky and to the NNE in the pre dawn sky.

If you've got a flat horizon and low enough latitude, you may be able to see Mercury too a little above the horizon right before sunrise as well.

In my life, seasons have changed. Winter isn't always cold. Summer is always hot as balls. Spring and Fall vary.

To figure out how to track the seasons it seems like you would have to track hundreds of years of precise data and try to find a cycle. You know - the shit we haven't done.

And also the fact that when I use data, it has to work. That's a sticky wicket. I actually have to use said data and then make a model that works, in real time.

“Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years” (NKJV).

In this way, God established the celestial bodies (sun, moon, and stars) to “be for signs and seasons.” This phrase is theologically, prophetically, and practically significant.

Also, see Milankovitch Cycles. These are the long term variations in the Erf's orbit due to the various perturbations and all that, which have periods on the 10K to 100K year time scales.

Right now, we're on the leg of those cycles were the earth's axial tilt is decreasing, as well as the orbital eccentricity (it's becoming more circular). The tropical year is shortening as well, although the sidereal isn't changing much. The semi-major axis stays fairly constant even as it becomes more circular. The tropical year is getting shorted due to the equinox precession speeding up a bit as the tilt varies.

Anyway, these cycles have a lot to do with long term climate variation.

I adhere to a Big Bang kind of origin of for no other reason than the poetic.

God as Director setting up the universe roughly as is and shouting "Action!" with the first few infinitesimal frames of all of existence being a big fat hand wavy discontinuity across the entire observable and unobservable universe is just... uncool. It feels sloppy. Like poor craftsmanship or something. Starting everything from a single point where nowhere and nothing were suddenly something, somewhere, but only in one precise and exact event.... unfolding into everything that is or will be by following a handful of simple laws selected and tuned exactly to purpose... it's just more satisfying somehow.

And interesting one is "Green Sahara". It was last nice and green not too long ago. This occurs when perihelion happens during northerm hemisphere summer. Right now, it's around Jan 4th or so, near the winter solstice.

Due to precession, perihelion walks around the seasons. When it happens during summer, the Sahara becomes green.

I'd love for some serious digging to happen out in that vast desert and see if there's anything interesting buried there from the time when it was nice and lush and lots of rainfall.

There's also been some evidence and attemps to show a correlation between long term climate variation and the solar system's motion through the galaxy. Rather than a nice ellipse, the sun's motion is more complicated. The galactic field is a disc, not spherical. The sun bobs up and down the z-axis, perpendicular to the galactic mid-plane as it goes around. It takes about 250 million years for a complete orbit. The z-axis cycle is about 75 million years.

The error bars on that is pretty large. At one time, they thought there was a correlation, but then refined data broke it. But yet some more data may re-establish it.

223 Scale is everything.

It looks like the universe follows different laws between "normal" scale and subatomic scale. It turns out it's complicated, but not that complicated. Just weird.

Why should we not expect that the universe looks like it follows different laws between planet scale and universe scale? There's probably something very similar going on. A totally bizarre set of rules that "collapses" into the familiar at familiar scales, but we aren't even aware because we can't even conceive of the right thing to measure yet with what we know about existence, let alone how to measure it.

Maybe the dimensionality of the universe isn't constant. Maybe what we call universal constants aren't "constant", but transform with some measurable quality of spacetime we don't even have a name for yet. Maybe the universe really does have a hard outer shell and we're just too far from it to know what it's doing. Maybe the universe is so unfathomably big that we can only directly observe a tiny little speck of it, but if we could "see" the rest, it would make sense. Maybe the whole thing is fake and the laws out at the edges are entirely ad-hoc.

260 Eromero,
I’m hoping to hug you in a couple months. You and your lovely wife.

262 Everything with destiny 2 is discord it seems. These days you can't even join a clan without it. Destiny 2 really went to shit with this last expansion.

I stopped playing before the gay/trannie expansion. 2 expansions ago? I think.

I miss it at times because it's the only real fps mmoish thing out there.

Yeah that pissed me off. They made osiris and saint 14 butt buddies. 2 legends, and they had to turn them into that shit. These days drifter is banging eris morn, if you can believe that. lol. This last expansion is terrible. It changed so much all they had to do is change the character names, but them in clown suits and release it as a different game. It resembles nothing of the destiny we knew.

BTDT, got the tattoo.

I've been to a few camps and all I have to show for that is the scars.

267 I am becoming more convinced of the idea that because the biggest weapon the establishment had was control of the legacy media to convince the normies of any lie they wished to push, the decline and seeming imminent fall of legacy media was something that had to be done first before any accounting could be done with the establishment figures. Otherwise it would be 24\7 "Trump is Hitler and is throwing his opposition in camps" while actual evidence wouldn't be mentioned and the normies would have no idea it existed. Feels like we are almost there...
