IOW...99%RH, again.

On the plus side, historical temperatures show we are firmly into the cooling off phase of the seasons here. Not by much...but trending downward in average temps on a daily basis.

What those things were, I have no idea.
The concept of an individual actually needing a personal computer simply was not something that I could comprehend at the time.

There are some who would say that I am a late adopter to tech stuff.

25 So spouse and I had a lovely time in the morning by the Delaware yesterday . We went and had a coffee in a little cafe , walked by the river where I saw a goldfinch in a bunch of Black Eyed Susans. Then we went to an absolutely beautiful RC church which had gorgeous stained glass windows and stars painted on its blue painted ceilings And no, I didn't take the Eucharist . I liked the priest who must have been originally a speaker of Spanish. He told us how Saints Vianney and Padre Pio both had problems with Latin and he did as well
Before Mass started some nice woman gave me a pamphlet and a "Miraculous Medal" I have no idea what that is other than it's related to Mary. I will look it up. Anyway, it's good to see people in church on. a Monday morning

Arizona the big part-Coon never did that, but he hissed and growled. Once I dropped him at the vet, then got a call at work. "He's charging the cage door. Do we have your permission to sedate him?" I pictured them standing off like game wardens in Africa, firing a sleep dart into a lion's flank. No doubt they were glad when I moved and didn't darken their door with him any more.

He was sometimes a difficult cat, a challenge to get into the carrier for moves and vet visits. He just sort of grew into it from being a friendly kitten. No idea what happened.

Even a modest increase of just one mile per hour could raise sea levels by several inches in equatorial regions, enough to swamp low-lying coastal cities already on the brink.

That’s the problem.

The closest star is four light years away.
They still haven’t determined if it has planets, much less inhabitable ones.

Most of the potential habitable planets we think exist are far beyond the reach of humanity at our present technological level.

If we ever find a way to travel faster than light, or use wormholes as shortcuts, or figure out a way to fold space we might get there one day.

86 G'morning Horde.

m: Computing was very primitive back then. It was fun though.

I built a custom power supply for a friend for his Commodore 64 when his crapped out. We pulled it apart to see what went wrong, and after we got the case of the power supply apart, we discovered that the power supply itself was encased in a solid block of epoxy! This would cook the components over time due to heat buildup. I'm guessing they did this to prevent lawsuits from kids opening it up and poking their fingers around where the voltages were actually dangerous, but it was still a terrible design (at least to us.)

I built a replacement; a very simple one: Step-down transformer, full bridge rectifier (Electro-Boom jokes go here*), large capacitor, 5 volt regulator with a big heatsink, then another capacitor. Shoved all this in a project box, and scavenged the original cords off the broken power supply, and he never had to worry about replacing it ever again.

I also ended up installing a reset button into his C64. He liked that my TRS-80 had one as a feature.

They'll market it as 100% for "everyone else" and when you get your tax bill they'll just say, "I wasn't talking to you."

THIS.

Maybe there was a small news article back then. But for the mission to last 5-6 months, have it fail in a day or two, and then to come out at the scheduled mission enddate and go "Oops, hurr hurr!!!".

Couldn't they have a replacement that could get shot up by Space-X?

And were there any NASA employees whose responsibility was monitoring the data that would have been returned by this failed mission? Were they at least reassigned responsibilities, or did the managers not manage?
