Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Judge Rejects Big Letitia James' Lawsuit (Along With Other Leftwing AGs) to Force Trump to Spend Money on the One True Science of "Diversity Research"The judge didn't say that. Should have, but did not.A federal judge on Friday rejected a bid by 16 Democratic-led states to force U.S. President Donald Trump's administration to restore hundreds of millions of dollars of grants it canceled that support increasing diversity in science, technology, engineering and math fields. Democratic state attorneys general had urged U.S. District Judge John Cronan in Manhattan to block the National Science Foundation from canceling funding awarded to universities designed to increase the participation of women, minorities, and people in those fields, known collectively as STEM. They had argued in a lawsuit filed in May that the Trump administration lacked the power to cap research funding and eliminate diversity programs provided by the NSF that were mandated by Congress and urged the judge to reverse grant terminations that began in April. But Cronan, a Trump appointee, agreed with the administration that a challenge to NSF's already-completed grant terminations could not be pursued in his court but instead could only be taken up by the Court of Federal Claims, a specialist court that hears monetary claims against the U.S. government. He said the states likewise failed to show a new NSF policy stating that research "must aim to create opportunities for all Americans everywhere" and that research projects that preference "subgroups of people" do not reflect the agency's priorities was inconsistent with the agency's governing statute. The same day that policy was posted in April, NSF began canceling grants that had been previously issued that touched on among other topics of diversity, equity and inclusion. Trump has sought to eliminate DEI from the government and society. In another win: DOJ's Civil Rights Division ended a 44-year-old consent decree -- I think that arises from a leftwing lawfare group suing and friendly government bureaucrats agreeing to give the lawfare group all that it demanded -- which mandated not just DEI in federal hiring but a determined hostility towards actual skills and qualifications.
Yesterday Fox News published an undercover video of an administrator at the University of Iowa admitting the school was superficially complying with the elimination of DEI buzzwords but simultaneously "finding ways to operate around" efforts to end DEI practices.[Fox News:]
Christopher Rufo is celebrating the "demolishing" of DEI, but others think he's celebrating before actual winning.

It's true, we're a long way from ending DEI. Did you see Miranda Devine's expose on the latest trick? zoom interviews required. No need to guess a student's race, just look at them! Not only that, but they're not really interviews -- they're Hunger Games contests. A gang of new applicants gets on zoom, interview each other on various topics, and THEY rate each other on fitness for the university!!! This is going to be a looooong game of whack-a-mole. What's amusing, to me, is we know this judge ruled based on the law, not as he wished. However, left wing judges always go for twisting the law into the desired outcome.
But, of course, the left will screech partisanship with this ruling, because that's how they play things. Posted by: blake - semi lurker in marginal standing (tT6L1) at August 04, 2025 05:29 PM (tT6L1) 25

These initiatives are so tragic. I support anyone with the aptitude and competency to pursue any field they would like.
As a bit of historical background, the Kennedy administration very much wanted black astronauts. This was pushed by the administration heavily. The problem was, the criteria for the pool of applicants was very select. - military test pilots with college degrees. It is not the case that “racism” was a factor, simply that test pilots were rare as hen’s teeth. And (surprise) choosing a black for an astronaut necessarily meant passing over more qualified whites. Sound familiar? It should. Leftists want to short circuit all of this, and have done so in recent decades. Demanding that standards of education, experience, demonstrated competency, proficiency - you name it. - be thrown out in order to make the numbers. Consequently wholly unqualified and unsuitable candidates are selected for and jammed through the system. This causes resentments and unintentionally - lingering questions that dog even qualified individuals, And who can blame them? Truly insane. Keep pumping those foreign substances into your bodies idiots. It's making you dumber. I'm only posting this because despite the AI craze attempting to shape answers to reflect DEI, they keep screwing up and referencing actual studies. They keep ratcheting up the rhetoric, turning up the volume, becoming ever more strident and obmoxious as more and more rank and file wholly reject their world view. I never envisioned our universities and corporations would fall prey to deconstruction by saboteurs. What happened to Tenure? Fiduciary to stockholders? "Research on older transgender individuals receiving long-term hormone therapy found transgender women had lower IQ scores than cisgender women and men on information-processing speed, episodic memory, and crystallized intelligence. The unusually expansive outreach has raised alarm among some election officials because states have the constitutional authority to run elections and federal law protects the sharing of individual data with the government.
They wanna know who votes, or doesnt. That way they can send in more ballots for themselves using names of people who never vote. This is not for benign purposes. I need to find out the projected completion date of a huge construction project in a location I will be visiting soon. (Long story.) So I went to the Web site of the huge engineering/contracting firm in charge of the massive project. looking for the page that has schedules and dates and so forth.
What did I find? The front landing page of the firm's web site shows the ENTIRE STAFF of hundreds of construction workers at some goddamn "Pride Parade" holding up pro-Trans and pro-Gay and Black Lives Matter signs, with big banner text on the web page saying "We Support Diversity, Equity and Inclusion for All Our Employees" and then smaller text, "Making our employees feel safe and included is a key component of our success! A happy employee is a productive employee." A close look at the sign-carrying workers in the photo showed all the beefed up white male actual construction workers wincing and looking miserable, while the handful of poofters and fat black office ladies grinning and waving. My instant reaction was, "Fuck this company and the horse they rode in on." Posted by: zombie at August 04, 2025 06:14 PM (pMi6S) 151

___ There was no DEI 44 years ago. Maybe just short hand for Fed Govt was required discriminate against white males in hiring. Posted by: Chuck Martel at August 04, 2025 06:14 PM (Dv3i1) DEI is just Affirmative Action with a different haircut and different clothing. They put a bunch of people in positions for which they were not qualified and everybody, especially themselves, knew they were not qualified. DEI, child of Affirmative Action, no longer recognizes they are not qualified. Posted by: Eromero at August 04, 2025 06:20 PM (LHPAg) 160
154 I did talk to a young fellow today who just got hired as a professor of Classics- Latin and classic literature and he’s a white guy . so either diversity types dont usually go into this field or DEI is losing its grip on some of the college/ university system
Posted by: FenelonSpoke at August 04, 2025 06:14 PM Maybe he's gay. Posted by: toby928 There's another, more likely explanation: It is trendy now among young classics scholars to portray the Romans as the bad guys -- horrible, patriarchal colonialist proto-fascists. You send your career learning Latin and studying Roman history, only so you can hate on it and condemn it. I'd be willing to wager that his thesis was titled something like "Racism and Settler-Colonialism in Roman Cis-Normative Spaces." Boom -- instant job offers. I watched an episode of Mission Impossible last night on MeTV. Young Sam Elliot was a regular in a couple of seasons there.
He didn't yet have that Wild West weather and wizened look, but you could see the potential. They called it Affirmative Action. It got banned. They renamed it. At the end of the day, white guys who get into academia need to bring in the research dollars. White nerdy scientists can come in male or female, or female-ish. Posted by: Dr.Rev. Senator Your Highness E Buzz Miller, Esq PhD MA MS at August 04, 2025 06:23 PM (et1vG) 165

Well, we hadn’t discussed that so if we do I will ask him. He did seem interested in the fact that my son took Latin and loved it , so maybe he’s not all that bad. Posted by: FenelonSpoke at August 04, 2025 06:23 PM (2GCMq) 166
The Luevano reversal is a huge deal. This opens the door to bringing proctored pencil-and-paper civil service examinations back. I was told those were very similar to the Graduate Record Examination and--though not perfect--did an excellent job of filtering out retards from government jobs. The idiotic legal doctrine of Adverse Impact really screwed this country hard, and I never expected to see this level of pushback. Posted by: biteme at August 04, 2025 06:24 PM (xWS9V) 167

so we get competent hires, instead of DEI hires?
Will there be a quota system to make sure we have plenty of incompetents? Or can we purge the system of the current incompetent DEI hires? Government DEI hires is like ... 50% of them? Posted by: illiniwek at August 04, 2025 06:31 PM (vbXSk) 173
Strictly speaking... the romans were racist, abelist, ethnic purists (to a point), definitely racial supremacists. Nationalists. They happily destroyed multiple civilizations/city states and either wiped them out or sold the men, women and children into slavery.
And if you asked them how they could do such a thing, after you explained what you meant by the question, they'd say easily. Posted by: Aetius451AD work phone at August 04, 2025 06:32 PM (GLdIU) 174

And another thing about Luevano: If the federal government can bring objective standardized examinations back into use for employment and promotion decisions, then private sector will have a shot at doing the same. There is a direct line from today's DEI morass, the overwhelming leftism of college campuses, and the student load crisis back to Luevano. Without the ability to test applicants, employers have been using four-year degrees in hopes that colleges and universities screened out the retards. That four-year degree means jack shit when DEI was steering the bus. That drove up demand for undergrad enrollment and made government-backed student loans for underwater basket weaving seem like a good idea. All that money pouring into academia's coffers let the marxists hire their marxist pals onto the payroll. Start testing applicants, and this shit all goes away almost overnight. This is truly a revolution in common sense. Posted by: biteme at August 04, 2025 06:36 PM (xWS9V) 176
