Love the ding dong ditch sweet boy and his father!
When our sons were in junior high their friends down the street pranked us. An odd prank, maybe a FL thing. They rode their bikes to the front porch and smeared pizza on the front doors. They did not know my husband, in his teens and college, once ran 4min miles and long distances. They found out that night and he chased them barefoot down the street and caught them both. They were hiding in bushes and he hauled them to their mothers. One mother profusely apologized. The other could not believe her boy did this. Guess whose sons were successful in life? Ours, plus the mother's boy who apologized. He was later made to come to our house and apologize. The other turd might not be in prison but he did not do as well, nor did his sister. The front facing "selfie" camera is mirror reverse by default usually, isn't it. Just checked with my stupid phone, and that's the case. When you're looking at yourself on a screen like that, you automatically think you're looking in the mirror. If it wasn't mirrored, it would be very weird looking, as if you've seen yourself in monitor, where everything goes the wrong way. On December 3, 2024, it was announced that the restaurant chain will re-launch in the United States in 2025. Michael McDermott, son of original owner, Marno McDermott, will lead and operate the new restaurants under Chi-Chi's Restaurants, LLC. Hormel Foods, the current owner of the Chi-Chi's trademark, has allowed the use of the Chi-Chi's name for the physical restaurant locations. A few months later, McDermott announced that he will convert his two Rojo Mexican Grill restaurants in St. Louis Park and Maple Grove to the revived Chi-Chi’s brand. They also have those hooked claws, but they use them for holding prey down while tearing off chunks. They hunt like a roadrunner by chasing down or stalking their small prey of rodents, lizards and snakes, and kill prey by throwing it repeatedly to the hard ground. I have come to the conclusion over the last 4 election cycles that in spite of my shaky faith in politicians and more importantly, the knowledge base of the voting populus. there are serious deficiencies in both. Granted, living in Commiefornia, I lay my most concentrated Ire on the voting capabilities of these that I live amongst and will call for lack of a better term... "SHEEP." But these SHEEP are not without help from the various Democrat minions that actually run the voting process in this state. And it is because of the Democrat lockdown on the voting process in Commiefornia why Democrats seem to win every regional contest up and down the state save Orange County. Because they request voter ID. Wonder how much different the elections would be if voter ID was mandatory statewide.

He never talked to me about his experiences in detail since I was a young kid but he must have talked to my Mom about it. Mom never made anything with chicken my entire life. She could cook fried chicken, she just hated making it. She'd buy a bucket of fried chicken from a local place if guests suddenly dropped by but she never cooked chicken herself. Plus, as a kid on the farm with a pet chicken, one day her Mom handed her an axe and said, 'We need dinner'. As a result of their I guess quite understandable biases, took me a long time to even start eating chicken, much less enjoying it as much as I do now. Thought about this for years and witnessed it in ways. This guy's basic observation, although prissy, is correct. The comments are also interesting. The links are for x.com, first, then excancel for those who belong to the Groucho Marx section of the club.
(if the comments don't appear in one they will in the other) @DrInsensitive Jul 29 Insightful. Women are built to be traded to another tribe (or captured) and slide seamlessly into their new culture. That keeps them safe, even though they are physically weak. 20 years after they are captured, they are the matriarchs who enforce that culture. That is why women conform to the dominant culture, and thereby amplify that culture. IMO, that is why Western women, raised in anti-white culture, are now amplifying anti-white culture, even though they are white. They think that keeps them safe, and they are correct, but only in the sort term. In the long term, they will be forced to remember they are white. Better they are reminded of that by white men, because the alternative is not so gentle. https://tinyurl.com/5n7ehbt5 https://tinyurl.com/bdcuudwd Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at August 01, 2025 11:23 PM (KY4Yu) 217

Agnus means "lamb." In Latin. Beautiful name, really.
I had an Auntie Evelyn. She was quite the force of nature, the first of seven kids, and by "auntie" I mean great-aunt. My grandpa's older sister. She carefully explained to my dad when he was young that it wasn't dignified for him to be called Corky when his name was Alan. Of course, her kids went by Minnie, Kink, and Squeak. The irony totally escaped her. But she was a pretty good painter, and some of her paintings are in the museum in Laramie. I always thought Evelyn was a lovely name. Yeah, the skull thing is a total lie. My late wife earned an anthropology degree. For the final exam in one of her courses, one of the questions was to determine the sex of a human bone in a bag by feel. I think the bag was to cut down on cheating. You had to do it, individually, one on one by touch. Pelvic bone of course. What can I say, my wife was an all “A” student.

Agnes Moorhead was in a lot of old time radio episodes. Too over the top for me. One of the worst was called “Wrong Number” I think. Probably on “Suspense!”.
She picks up her phone, a glitch allows her to overhear a murder being planned. She gets agitated and we get to hear her even more agitated. I think the wind up she was alone in a snowstorm and they were coming to her house to wack her. The whole plot was silly, if she’d had a firearm. The script writers always assumed no decent people ever had a weapon. Females were always just wilting hysterical flowers, generally. Or complete psychotics. No in between. egg chickens are not as aggressive. Neighbors have a flock and they have a good size kennel to run around in, they don't attack each other. When they get new chicks they do keep them separate until they are older. Last year they raised some meat birds. They were discussing with other layer chicken folks at a gathering and the meat birds were pretty aggressive. They had to be kept separately from the laying varieties. Even as young chicks the meat birds killed a couple of layers before they realized this.

It hit me that if you had a phase loss, diode burned out, or winding failure, then the other two would just make a single phase full-wave with the 6 diode bridge. Now, adding the two on the neutral, would bring the absolute value of the phase to neutral into it, and they would fill in the gaps of that somewhat. And that is one of the purposes of the 8 diode design. But guess what, they operate during normal operation as well, and about 10 -15% of the output power is supplied through that neutral diode part. And how does that work. Normally, the phase to neutral would never exceed the ripple of the 6-diode'd output. But, due to the ridiculous increase in current requirements with all the modern electrical loads, alternator design has been pushed to the limit, packing as much current capacity into as small a physical package as possible.... The result of that pushing to the limit is very non-linear output from the phases. Core tends to saturate, and the flux distribution gets all wonky. They produce a lot of harmonics, and the 3rd harmonics, being additive, do allow the phase to neutral voltage to exceed the phase-to-phase at the lowest points on the ripple wave. They thus supply some current. The AC output of these modern things is just a mess, AC "quality" wise, but it's rectifed to DC, and that's what's going on. Blew my mind. I guess the ground crew had to turn them over by hand 3 or 4 complete revs before starting, to circulate oil thoroughly first, probably helped with compression.
Posted by: Common Tater === Still true. Would help with cars & bikes, but unless you you hardcore you just jump in and fire it up. Performance nuts have ways to circulate before trying to start the engine. Good mechanics would pull the distributor and use a drill to run the oil pump before starting a rebuilt engine. Or disconnect the ignition system while using the starter motor to circulate oil. Posted by: Itinerant Alley Butcher at August 02, 2025 12:23 AM (/lPRQ) 354
Lime-Green Dildo Thrown onto Court for the SECOND TIME in a Week at WNBA Game
A lime green dildo was thrown onto the court once again, marking the second time in just a week that a sex toy has disrupted a professional women’s basketball game. The latest incident took place during the third quarter of a matchup between the Golden State Valkyries and the Chicago Sky. The game was abruptly halted after a lime-green sex toy was thrown onto the court. A referee quickly nudged the unwelcome projectile to the side before someone scooped it up using a cloth, as if it were just another day at the office in the WNBA’s new circus act. Most of them were diesels that used a lit wick, sometimes in combination with an oil drip for preheating the cylinders rather than a modern glow plug. The wick preheater combined with the shotgun shell start meant that your tractor didn't need any electrics at all. That was a real advantage in the early days. I always try to “baby” the engine electrical system.
Clean, tight electrical grounds & connections. Even a paper thin, nearly invisible bit of corrosion on a ground point will absolutely cripple alternator output and charging. This is because we’re dealing with high current low voltage. Even a fraction of a single ohm excess resistance will cause major trouble. An ohmeter is useless here. “The grounds look good!” people will say. You got X-Ray vision? The trick is to measure Voltage Drop. The amount of resistance can be inferred by measuring in parallel, at a low voltage setting while in operation. Zero voltage drop would be ideal, but impossible. 0.5 volts is considered acceleration for the negative side of the circuit, slightly more on the positive. Each connection, ground point, splice is a potential failure point and will (eventually) fail. The starter & alternator also mate to the block, that’s how it gets ground. Clean! Note that in performing the Voltage Drop test, the voltage drop is displayed as a positive voltage;
Set your voltmeter to the lowest setting. Place one probe on say, the negative battery post. The other probe on the negative headlight terminal. Turn the headllights on. The voltage displayed is the amount lost (due to resistances in connections & grounds) in the circuit. The old school cars had the foot switch. Handy, but a VERY long run. Relays kept the current loss from burning up headlight switches. Ever had your headlights go out? Notice there isn’t a fuse, it’s a built in circuit breaker. Heat. That’s why. I was reading about WWII, Bombing Europe and I think they said the ME262 or the Komet, one of those new jets went from blueprints and drawings to actual plane in only 4 months. Something like that.
US manufacturing was on an accelerated basis too. The B-29 was ordered into production and 200 or so paid for, before even a prototype had been built, much less flown. This was a huge pain in the ass, all the bugs had to be worked out later. And there were a lot. They spent more money on the B-29 program than anything else iirc. More than the $2.2 billion Manhattan project, which was no slouch either, albeit that was completely secret. Not so with B-29 Posted by: Common Tater at August 02, 2025 12:42 AM (gIVe3) 380

I remember being at a tractor show in Irricana, Alberta (coming up soon, in fact), and there was a green Field Marshall tractor there, quite similar to the one in the vid. It was capable of shotgun shell start, but the normal means of starting it was hand crank. It had a big flywheel on the right side (the flat-belt PTO), and that wheel had a helical groove milled in its rim for about half its width, running off the inside edge. There was a compression-release lever nearby, with a small wheel on it. You would pick up the lever, drop the wheel in the start of the groove, and grab a flip-out knob on the flywheel, and start cranking. Took some muscle, too. After about six turns, the flywheel was moving pretty fast, and the little wheel ran off the end of the groove, and suddenly that one-lung Diesel had compression. But the spinning flywheel had enough oomph to bring the piston up to TDC, and fire the fuel. If it fired once, it was running.
About a half-minute's worth of effort. I managed to do it OK. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at August 02, 2025 12:44 AM (TNJzY) 384

There was a brief period of time that lawnmowers had this weird clock type wind-up lever contraption, a spring loaded recoil starter instead of a pull rope.
In retrospect they should have went with a shotgun shell probably. More fun anyways. Posted by: Common Tater at August 02, 2025 12:02 AM (qwEFl) We had one of those when I was a teenager. We had a half acre of field, not lawn, that would often cause the blade to stop and the engine to stall. When it stalled, I'd crank it up, pop the release, and restart it. One time the mower stalled, I cranked it, hit the release, and nothing happened. I rolled the mower on its side and found a big rock stuck between the blade and frame. I gave the rock a shove. Yes, but when you wring the terminal down tight on the post, and tighten the bolt, you get good metal-to-metal contact just the same. And the grease squeezed out fills any tiny gaps, and helps prevent acid fumes from going to work on the lead or copper. You used to be able to buy chemically-treated felt washers to put on battery posts for the same purpose. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at August 02, 2025 12:51 AM (TNJzY) 399

Hap Arnold took an enormous risk pushing the B-29 before a prototype had even flown. But he correctly figured there wasn't much choice - time.
Likewise his subordinate Curtis LeMay took an enormous risk in radically changing the tactics with said B-29 to low-level, night firebombing (the plane, amazing for its era, was specifically built for high-altitude daylight precision bombing). There had been some talk of this, and one small test raid of sorts, but LeMay put all his chips in the middle when he ordered the Tokyo raid of March 8/9. Those few years were packed with people putting it all on the line, many without hesitation. Posted by: rhomboid at August 02, 2025 12:59 AM (U/Byj) 405

My observation is battery corrosion at the terminals is due to outgassing to some large degree. The outgassing is due to a chronically undercharged battery.
Batteries outgas when charging, this is both necessary or typical in the absorption phase. But it should be minimized, they actually stop outgassing when they reach full charge. I noticed once I started keeping batteries plussed up with a charger, terminal corrosion disappeared completely. The other end of the negative cable, where it attaches to the block, is equally important. This is the main connection. Everything works fine when new, but a couple years exposure to road spray and salt, it will degrade. Just a few hundredths of an ohm extra resistance will reduce alternator current output by about 30%! Clean, tight electrical connections are key. I always re-install charged batteries. A dead battery is torture for Alternator. Not designed for that! Posted by: Common Tater at August 02, 2025 01:00 AM (B0ATO) 409

Vaseline works to coat terminals. Bell telephone specified “No-Ox-ID” for their connections, a conductive grease. I like that pretty good.
A lot of guys like to install a single ground point connection at the frame. Detroit liked to use the lightest gauge copper wire and cable they could get away with, and run it to the firewall. Cheap bastards. I would get OO double ought and run it direct to a starter bolt. One would think copper washers would be better for ground bolts on the frame. Something to do with dissimilar metals and fretting corrosion. Steel washers are OK. OEM use those rough star washers that “bite” into the metal, they work good for a while at least. Stopped at a gas station to fill up on the way down, and got back in an hit the started. Boom! Put a dent in the hood, and sprayed acid all over everything. That was a classic explosion failure mode. It was "maintenance free", and the level had dropped below the plates (I surmise this). Now, it was a hot day in Sept, I believe, and the thing had been charging, electrolyzing water and getting H2 and O2 over the top. Now, when the electrolyte level is below the plates, something can happen and cause a little short to happen on heavy current draw. Spark and boom inside the battery cells. Something to do with getting a better aspect ratio without blocking the camera. It also allows you to keep the cell phone within arms reach to adjust quality, lighting, zoom, etc. I forget the specifics. I wanted to confirm before posting but I can't find my phone. Try it with yours. (Edit: Hello, Miss. I anticipated that you would suspect he was playing you but I want to reassure you that studies have shown a scantily clad girl in frame is necessary to prove my point. Have fun.) Second battery boom was on a combine, cutting very dusty grain in hot July. It was another maintenance free type. They got little vents and I think the vent got plugged with dust. The battery was exposed to all the dust. I'm not sure exactly what happened, but I think overpressure burst, followed by fire. The third battery explosion happened right under my ass on a riding lawn mower. The dinky battery was completely dead, and I was just boosting it off with the charger to start it, hadn't gotten around to replacing it. I was on the side of little bank and felt a big "whump". I thought I must have ran over something, but couldn't see anything. When I got back it and got off it, I noticed a little trickle of liquid running down. That dinky battery just the top off itself right under my ass beneath the seat. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at August 02, 2025 01:33 AM (w6EFb) 426

And before I was born, my father had a battery explode as well, but that more due to "operator error". Had an old '55 F-500 truck. It had a 6V system with a positive ground. You can jump off 6Vs from a 12V system, you just don't want to leave it connected too long. It's gonna charge the hell out of the 6V battery, but the 6V starter will spin pretty fast. He had a field hand helping him who was more of the strong back and weak mind type. He understood the "red was hot" and black was ground. He connected the 6V side, backwards. My father didn't think to check him, and he connected the 12V side, last. When he made that connection, it was both batteries in series dead shorted. The 6V battery just exploded. The helper had stepped back enough, and the explosion just went more straight up. He got a little acid on him, but nothing serious. I always re-install charged batteries. A dead battery is torture for Alternator. Not designed for that!
Posted by: Common Tater at August 02, 2025 01:00 AM (B0ATO) You would not believe how many times i have to tell people to charge a new battery fully before sticking it in their harley. I hear this shit almost every week. Oh I put a new battery in and its dead. Well, did you charge it? No they said it was charged. NO..NO, they are never frigging charged. Just because the frigging ass picker at the counter where you got it says that he's full of shit. 12.6 off the shelf is not charged. Stick a battery in like that it and its over, the bike will never charge it right and the battery will be doomed. We charge them up to 13.5 and they work every time. Even my asshole brother did this TWICE with a full custom bike with stroker engine I built him. Puts a battery in, bike won't crank good, battery eventually dies. DID you charge it? Uh.. no. I tell him charge the new battery. He puts another in down the road, and no charge, and the bike is the same unreliable shit all over again. Now I own the bike. I put a fully charged battery in 1.5 years ago and its been golden the whole time. Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at August 02, 2025 01:48 AM (snZF9) 432

They took her off two of her medications. Both can rarely cause the platelet drop, but not usually a crash like she had. They're not really sure what caused it, but they're going to monitor her levels closely from now on. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at August 02, 2025 02:00 AM (w6EFb) 436
Finally got some decent rain. 1.01" tonight. And the other two little ones totaled 1.56" for the week. July was just 2.64", which is just a little bit over half of normal. It was very spotty rainfall around here, and some spots just a couple of miles away got up to 5" for the month. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at August 02, 2025 02:05 AM (w6EFb) 437
Had one blow up when starting, was standing next to it but hood was down, probably low on water. I heard of one frozen being charged that went off. Wouldn't hurt to pull the covers to check the electrolyte level once a year

Yep, letting the water level get below the plates is bad, and after all that, I've learned to check that. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at August 02, 2025 02:28 AM (w6EFb) 439
An interesting day in US History: From a previous thread here today, Joe Biden's consigliore, Mike Donillon, says Kammie is indeed running in 2028, Mark Halperin says Family Biden is threatening to release details of Kammie's utter failures if Kammie talks about Joe, and Kammie is/might be writing a book. I predict the book does get written, initially sells well, then fails, as too many items are just unbelievable and the ghostwriter just isn't that good. Kammie uses her book money and some/lots of her husband's fortune to finance the campaign. Her campaign fails and he ends up being not a billionaire. I feel sympathetic butt-hurt. But the big question: who, either side or third-party, will leak forbidden information about Joe or Kammie? I predict that both sides are loading torpedo tubes, and it will be a combination of low-level flunkies on both sides that start the fight. DC area, so I guess this will be Third Battle of Manassas. ---- Had a mid-frame 6V battery blow the top off while I was kick-starting a Suzuki T-350. Later, when I washed the jeans that I had been wearing, the left leg of the jeans looked like I had taken a load of buckshot in the leg. That frozen battery blowing on charging was interest, and I had Grok go over a possible mechanism. Grok thinks it was likely expansion due to freezing warped messed up the internal conditions, possibly a short or the other way, making a high resistance path. Some tiny current would flow, although the ice would limit it. But, with some heating, it thinks little pockets of liquid would developed, and they would electrolyze pretty quickly, giving some H2/O2 production in little pockets. As it loosened up, a spark or hot spot sets it off. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at August 02, 2025 03:10 AM (w6EFb) 442
