Seriously, they were just sitting there in the burn room ready to go. At least one person should have had a match or cigarette lighter or something.
And yes I know it is a bit more complicated than that. I used to use the burn chamber to get rid of classified material in the Navy. But my point still stands. They did all of the prep work and just walked out with everything just sitting there neatly bagged up waiting to be found.

Someone earlier, sorry I can credit them because I don't remember who is was, suggested these documents were not burned, because there was no "chain of custody" style documentation for them to be burned. Because of that, the person who may have had charge of burning the documents did not do so, for the very real fear of getting charged for destruction of evidence.

Thank the Lord that our side is in charge, and able to show this to the people, but just think about if Trump would not have won, we would be functioning under a completely unaccountable false regime, like we were from 2020 until now.
At what point does the American begin to hate, as the poem goes? This kind of stuff is genuinely corrosive to our form of governance on a fundamental level. And yes I know it is a bit more complicated than that. I used to use the burn chamber to get rid of classified material in the Navy. But my point still stands. They did all of the prep work and just walked out with everything just sitting there neatly bagged up waiting to be found.

I hear you, but I think they didn't burn them for the same reason that Comey put a whole bunch of files on a secret server location. Sequestering government files isn't illegal, while destroying them is. They were probably hoping some Harris/Trump rando would burn the files, so they would stay in the clear. They probably weren't thinking that Big Balls or some tech geek from DOGE would be able to come along and find hidden files.

Think; millions of Federal employee retirement papers in a mine shaft for decades upon decades. Typed notes and testimony from the "JFK files" stashed away, then scanned and made available.
I'm not at all surprised to hear that so-called burn bags of documents were "discovered." Not burned. And I'll bet the info on them is in digital format right now, on a server, at the FBI's HQ or an off site backup site.
All the security processes in the world can't stop someone with intent to circumvent them and do whatever they want... but the inclination of FedGov as a whole is to preserve "everything."
In my 34 years as a Fed IT I can't recall but once or twice data actually being "lost forever."

Yup. Likely whoever was assigned to dispose of the classified documents realize that there was no chain of custody on them, opening those underlings to destruction of evidence charges. You DON'T put anything in a burn bag before it is either shredded or pulped. They probably just left it there as is and informed whomever told them to do the disposal that it was done. I'll bet the only reason Patel knew where to look was because one of those underlings (or all of them) pointed him there.
