The Morning Report — 7/29/25

UNDozed.jpg

Good morning kids. President Trump's second term has certainly yielded some incredible results on so many issues, here at home, most significantly is his crusade against illegal immigration and its destructive consequences to our national security, sovereignty, culture and economic well-being. On the international front, discounting his tariff regime which in the long term will rejigger our relationships with many nations and result in net gains for our economy, and especially this latest agreement with the EU which as we discussed yesterday is a pretty huge deal.

But, the president has been touting his abilities as a peacemaker in bringing warring nations to the negotiation table.

President Donald Trump has brokered on average about one peace deal or ceasefire per month thus far in his presidency, following Monday’s ceasefire agreement between Thailand and Cambodia. . . “Now this would be six that we’ve stopped. I have … stopped six wars in the last — I’m averaging about a war a month,” he said.

Trump has brokered a number of ceasefires and peace deals since returning to office, the most prominent being the agreement between Israel and Iran after the “12-day war” between the countries. That war culminated after Trump approved devastating strikes on three Iranian nuclear sites: Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan.

The sides agreed to a ceasefire on June 23, and it took effect on June 24.

Another major deal brokered by Trump and his administration is between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and the Republic of Rwanda. The countries reached a peace agreement in late June to end a 30-year-long conflict between them. . . In yet another deal, Trump announced a ceasefire with Ansarallah, commonly known as the Houthi jihadist terror organization, in Yemen in May, which took Israel by surprise. As part of the deal, the Houthis agreed to stop targeting U.S. ships and the U.S. agreed to stop bombing Yemen. Though the Houthis and the U.S. reached a deal, the group has continued to target Israel.

Finally, Trump brokered peace between Egypt and Ethiopia in June regarding a conflict over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam on the Nile River.

I read "Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam" and immediately thought TRUMP Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, HOTEL and CASINO . . .

Seriously, as I and others have pondered vis a vis Trump and Israel and negotiating with Hamas, it just makes no sense whatsoever. In the wake of France's PM Emanuel Macron's despicable announcement of his support for a "Palestinian" state . . .

The Trump administration says it boycotted a United Nations conference promoting the two-state solution on Monday, calling the event a “publicity stunt” and an “insult.”

“This week, the U.N. will serve as host to an unproductive and ill-timed conference on the two-state solution in New York City,” State Department spokeswoman Tammy Bruce said in a statement. “This is a publicity stunt that comes in the middle of delicate diplomatic efforts to end the conflict.”

Bruce said the conference will “prolong the war, embolden Hamas, and reward its obstruction and undermine real-world efforts to achieve peace.”

Instead of participating, Bruce said the United States will continue leading efforts to end the fighting and deliver a permanent peace.

“Our focus remains on serious diplomacy: not stage-managed conferences designed to manufacture the appearance of relevance,” she said.

The boycott comes after President Donald Trump drew attention to what he described as “real starvation” in Gaza. . . . “We’ll be helping with the food,” Trump said. “We can save a lot of people. That’s real starvation. I see it, and you can’t fake that.”

It would have been helpful had the President pointed out the rather salient fact that it's Hamas that caused and exacerbated the humanitarian crisis by its brutal invasion and butchery against Israel and Israel's righteous and justified response in defending itself. Plus the fact that Hamas uses its own people as cannon fodder to advance their own cause — the Islamic crusade to wipe out every Jew on the planet and convert all of Earth into an Islamic world.

Rewarding a fictitious people and nation created in the basement of KGB headquarters in 1964 with land. And not just any land, the land of Israel, which can only happen with the eradication of its citizens whose ancestors have had an historic presence there for over five millennia.

There can be no negotiation with Hamas, because Hamas is just the cutting edge of Islam itself. And that is sadly a truth that dare not be uttered lest one be called racist and Islamophobic despite nearly 1500 years of documented barbarism and bloodshed committed in the name of Islam.

Oh well. Great that we pulled out of UNESCO but we need to dismantle Turtle Bay.
From the East River to the General Assembly, the parking shall be free!

So an horrific mass shooting in NYC gets all kinds of coverage,

but a mass stabbing spree at a Michigan WalMart is all but ignored. My reporting on it yesterday notwithstanding.

4 Morning, news folken! A hat tip to JJ for his hard work!

Willowed: The shooting this morning on the major avenue near where I live took place apparently at a Racetrac gas station/convenience store. I've lived here for more than two decades and have watched buildings be torn down and new stuff erected. That location used to hold a city building of some kind; then it was vacant for several years before the Racetrac opened.

The apartment complexes which line the cross street on either side of the avenue have declined. Badly.

38 Lee won the special election on June 3 prompted by the impeachment and ouster of conservative predecessor Yoon Suk-yeol, whose political demise followed an unsuccessful attempt to establish military rule in the country in December.

If memory serves, Yoon attempted to establish martial law with and aim toward disbanding the current legislature and holding new elections due to what he referred to as infiltrations by NK into the government.

I would argue that the actions of the current President lend credence to his accusations.

46 I first began thinking seriously about retirement when, in '21, my employer went full out on the Clot Shot Mania and informed us that either we got an exemption, medical or religious, or, basically, be fired. When I discovered the annuity I'd been contributing to for decades would come to me whether I left voluntarily or not -- I'd assumed if I got fired, I'd lose it -- I began to plan.

If they'd declined my exemption request, I was ready to let them fire me, take my SS, unemployment, and annuity, try to sue them for wrongful termination, and ride over the horizon. They accepted it. So I stayed until early '25 despite the face diaper silliness, increased my contributions to the annuity, and waited until Trump was inaugurated.

I'm still in constant pain and the therapist told me to see an orthopedic doc. This is how that went:

1. First place I called that had come up on my insurance company's website: "Oh, we're not orthopedics. Just PT." Never mind the fact that several doctors are attached to that place.

2. Fine. Call the second one. When I finally get a person? "Oh, we're not orthopedics. Just PT." Point out that they came up on the website AND the phone number is wrong.

3. Fine. Call a third person. "We can see you tomorrow at 0830." Not happening. They have an open appointment with a PA on Thursday afternoon. If I want a doctor, I have to wait until September. I got one other place I can call today but if I don't have any luck, I'll keep the other appointment.

53 When Medicaid was enacted, it covered roughly 2 percent of the population and was projected to cost $1 billion, 1.0 percent of 1965 federal spending. Over the last sixty years, Washington has ignored Section 1801’s prohibition, gradually taking control and expanding all state programs. In 2024, Medicaid/CHIP provided insurance to 78.8 million Americans and cost $817.7 billion (12 percent of the federal budget.).

The real cost of Medicaid is around double that number as the State must kick in their share.

That was a good decision, Hadrian. I got my unused vacation time, a not insignificant chunk of change, but not close to six months' pay.

A few years ago my university employer was offering an early retirement/separation package to qualified employees like me, with that six months' pay. I wasn't ready financially to retire then. Serious question: Is taxing social security double taxation?

When you file income taxes, is the SS money withheld included in your gross income for the year filed? If so then taxing ones local security is indeed double taxation.

64 Let me explain the evolution of entitled feminine energy, and how it leads
a civilization to ruin:
1. It starts by demanding that men be gentler.
2.Then it demands mercy for enemies, no matter their crimes. 3. Then it imposes rules of engagement in war so restrictive, you must be
shot before you're allowed to return fire. 4.Then it welcomes those same enemies into your homeland, because it
pities their "struggle" under alleged imperialism. 5.Then it redistributes your resources to them, because "everyone
deserves basic needs."
6.Then it excuses the rise in crime as "misunderstandings." 7.Then it watches safe neighborhoods descend into chaos, and still
denies the cause.
8.Then it bows in fear as the structures of safety collapse. 9. And finally, it kneels at the edge of a ditch, with a gun at the back of its
head, held by the very people it once defended. This isn't compassion. It's suicidal empathy. And it guarantees
violence, not peace.

68 Serious question: Is taxing social security double taxation?

Yes. Particularly since I don't believe most people starting social security in the past 20 years or so will ever see all of their contribution returned, even without any interest.

69 When you file income taxes, is the SS money withheld included in your gross income for the year filed? If so then taxing ones local security is indeed double taxation.

I have money that has been taxed 3 times. I save money post tax to but a house. Then sold house and did not buy a new house so that money was taxed. That money then went to stock market in the year of the CV 19 and I killed it on Oreilleys (no cars to buy so everyone fixed theirs) and MSFT. I sold that, paid taxes and bought the house I live in now.

Not sure how I was blaming boomers (I am one, BTW).

The OBBBA adds an additional $6K personal deduction for everyone 65 or older but it ends after the 2028 tax year. It has, AFAIK, no other modifications to tax law even remotely related to social security.

Apparently, there is an existing law which states, conveniently, that changes to social security / medicare are required to be in a stand-alone bill so as to allow for the maximum grandstanding.

152 A side note on SSA benefits: I mentioned yesterday on another thread the elimination of two provisions that previously reduced Social Security benefits for public sector workers with pensions from non-Social Security-covered employment: the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO).

What should you do if you think you are affected? Schedule a call or appointment with your local SSA office to see if your retirement benefits are affected. They will figure it out for you.

My wife spoke with a SSA agent yesterday and found she is eligible for a hefty monthly benefit and a sizable lump sum. It’s worth the hassle to check.

Nope, not even related. The actual Huns died out long ago, but while they were rampaging the area they were became called Hungaria by Latin speaking people, and it stuck. Now for a handy wiki stub: “The Hungarian people call their country Magyarország, meaning "Land of the Magyars". The term "Magyar" refers to the dominant Hungarian tribe and is used by Hungarians to refer to themselves and their language.”

No one else uses it because we all think Magyaroszag is far too much for us to say. Other fun trivia - Hungarian and Finnish are the only non-Indo European languages in Europe.

Funny story from a co-worker. When his oldest was getting ready to graduate high school, he said "Dad, would you be angry if I went into the Air Force instead?"

Him: "Son, you're going to be 18. It's your decision to make and your mom and I will support you." Internally, he is saying "YES! One less college bill for me!"

Fast forward about two years. Youngest son: "Dad, would you be angry if I did the same thing he did?"

Him: "Son, you're going to be 18. It's your decision to make and your mom and I will support you." Internal reaction was equally joyous.

There are ways to lessen that impact but it often requires both kids and parents to reset expectations. Aside from a few really bad universities, you can get a decent college education anywhere. One caveat, usually the worst for students not quite sure what they want to do is the modern research university as an undergraduate. Same as attending a uni for social life rather than study--cheaper to work in resort areas to do that and then go to college.

The last is not all children fit the 18-22 year mold and it is foolish to consider peer pressure as to when to go to college. Best when prepared to get the most out of it.

No one size fits all. Self id as a former big uni prof who academically counseled a lot of distraught students filled with media and peer bullshit causing distress. The trick is ensuring the student views it as entering continuing learning--not a insty credential to get a job.

Military service works for a lot of folks--curiously I find it often works better for males than females in my experience. Taught a fair number of vets as my university was purposefully seeking them as students. Almost all were self directed and knew what to do to succeed probably due to maturity. Same was generally true for older adult students returning to college to finish their degrees--they knew what they wanted and so little drama and bullshit from them.

Plus, USAF has the successful Air Force Community College which allows getting an associate's degree by including what the airman has to do to train in their specialty. Former airman here btw.

Who cares? All government numbers are doctored and politicized. There is no metric that the government calculates that is rational or isn't manipulated.

I'm 100% convinced that the various economic numbers are dictated to the bureaucrat by the money changers prior to the official release (not the other way around) that way the "smart money" already places their bets so when the numbers are "officially" released, the typical enemedia narrative is deployed manipulating markets with lies and deception so that the "smart money" fleeces the retail investor.

Then, like a depleted mine or oil well, the "real" manipulated "corrections" come out just after the money changers have placed a new round of bets, so that the enemedia can manipulate, lie and deceive the retail investor once again and the moneychangers have effectively double-dipped the Government Numbers scam.

Problem with Griggs is that it actually does not read as strictly as how people applied it. Even disparate impact can be successfully defended in court as Griggs dealt with a case of a high school diploma being required to be a lineman. If Duke Power had focused on the needs for literacy, basic math and science to understand high voltage, etc. they could have successfully defended a test.

Instead they were lazy just like the other places that slapped a college degree requirement for jobs not requiring that.

Designing job specific tests is expensive and time consuming--easy to just go with enshittification of society by adopting society's watered down degrees. That led to credential escalation.

221 Except we're not looking back in time. A "light year" is a measure of distance, not time.

Well, if you assume that the object is one LY distant then what you see today is what it looked like a year ago - assuming that time is constant across the universe - so you are, in effect, looking back in time. This holds true whether the universe is expanding or not. All that is required is an accurate understanding of the speed of light and distance of the object.

251 Observational equivalence--those economists putting numbers out are almost all lefties--so the question is where incompetence ends and corruption begins.

It is not a crime to put out fictious numbers, only to have those numbers, however generated, given to a preview audience before general release.

So giving the bureaucrats numbers is a crime-free activity with the same results. The difference being is that the bogus First Edition numbers can be doctored to create a nice thoughtfull bespoke portfolio plan as opposed to a a mad scramble a day or two before the official release.

Back in the day, before advertising agencies got involved, medical 'AI' was referred to as an "expert system". Narrowly focused, the input was, theoretically, rigorously reviewed prior to input.

I've told this story before so sorry if you're hearing it again. People were developing an expert system to run diagnosis on x-rays. They discovered that the system could, with 95%+ accuracy, determine the race of the person whose x-ray was being examined. Radiologists were consulted and they declared that was impossible so the systems programming was wiped for being racist. At no point in time did anyone wonder how/why it got the correct answer so often.

A basic persistent problem for the Army is its often dreadful treatment of its enlisted in housing, food, and the casual disregard for aptitude and specialization. I saw that first hand at a joint training base (Ft. Lost in the Woods).

AF and Navy, being technical services don't do that. Marines (under the voluntary enlistment years) is a whole different kettle of fish to the point that comparisons of Marines with the other forces is difficult.

296 Shooter took advantage of a lapse security environment. Nobody on perimeter to give advance warning (outside security is always recommended), SI of guards at the front desk was poor as was their positioning. Off duty cop moonlighting apparently didn’t even draw his weapon. There was no lockdown of elevators and the building. Perp just walked right in and started smoking people.

Add to that the perp knew that NYC isn’t gun friendly for civilians. NYPD has their own permit system which they basically use to keep people from getting a CCP. NY State is trying to make it impossible for people to legally carry because they’re anti constitutional Marxists and SCOTUS lets them get away with it.

Forget the perp. That’s largely a distraction.

That would be that we don't, and cannot know, the one way speed of light.
We only know the two way speed of light. Calling the one way speed one half of that is merely an accepted convention. Like which side of the road to drive on.
It works with the physics of Einstein. But so does the speed of light coming directly towards you being infinite and going away being 1/2 that.

Enough branches of the tree next to that came down that I'm not sure we can save the tree itself

You might want to consider how bad on base Army housing is. I've seen it and Navy and AF but not Marines. Big Green's housing is universally the worst.

I think part of it is the rationale that you were supposed to be in the field training and single so why waste money on maintaining housing. A lot of it was developed during the draft years and it was not assumed that most people would have families at the time.

FWIW, I was in the AF Civil Engineering and we often did training projects on other bases at the time. A lot of junior enlisted (sometimes even senior enlisted) housing on Army bases would never pass code outside the gates.

Stupid fucker retired there. He put his mailbox in an old tire filled with concrete. During the winter he just digs it out of the snow and puts it up on the newest layer... several feet above where it was. Rince/repeat all winter.

Snow removal on northern tier bases is a PITA. Nasty, cold, windy and bleak.

Spec Ops folks have my earnest respect as a class. They have had to deal with a whole lotta really bad taking out the trash in the WoT and dealing with the consequences of being overdeployed, horrible war time conditions, and not being recognized for the things they did because classified.

Got on the way the new UMa 1/48 AV-8B Harrier II Plus. The slime lights are way too pronounced, recessed panel lines look a bit deep, and it seems Trumpeter's mad riveter has been busy on the upper wing surfaces.

But it still looks spiffy and hopefully won't be as much a nightmare as the Hasegawa kit. Just don't get the aftermarket inlet section with the tiny bypass doors can be opened and closed with a magnet. Talk about a useless gimmick.

Tamiya did that with their 1/32 Mustangs, too. I REALLY dislike it.

370 You have to very comfortable in the water for the PJ, etc. training. Lots of water confidence and drown proofing stuff. Lots of time in the pool. That’s beyond the other physical parts a lot of which is done in the hot Texas sun. It will push and test every aspect of your being.

Interesting, "international pressure" is growing on Israel to end the Gaza war for a negotiated peace which simply means the disgusting charade of decades between hamas and Israel will continue unabated.

Hope the proponents are satisfied to condemn a number of Israeli innocents to a bloody agonizing death.

Done posting or speaking on this in public.

Fortunately no. My only Pacific jaunt was to Comox Canadian AFB on Vancouver Island. Absolutely lovely place, climate, and town.

Canadians at the time were friendly and the food there in the mess was superb (omelets made to order with fresh salmon etc.) for example. Did notice even back then that the Quebecers sat together, the Anglos did the same and the Newfies were like the dos--happy, goofy, and friendly. So of course, the unifying value of Anglos and French speakers were demeaning the Newfies.

I think a lot of that is true.

I have to admit though, I didn't even realize 'Rescue Swimmer/CSAR' was classified as SOCOM until I got out, and a potential employer told me about hiring preference for SOCOM kids. I knew the SWCC and Teams guys were, but 'we'll come pick you up when it gets crazy' didn't really seem comparable.

Navy Rescue Swimmer School is in Pensacola, but yes. Lots and lots of 'get comfortable being uncomfortable,' and lots of time in the water.
