"Wow; That's a lot of walking! "
It does sound high. But, my standard route through the neighborhood is 4.19 miles. I try to do 6 days a week, and not walk on Sundays, to both rest and get ready for Church in the morning without rushing. So that's 100 miles per month. I actually had not realized the distance was that high per month, as this is the first time I actually noodled out the numbers. And Kumar said he had begun using ChatGPT Agent to automate small parts of his life, like requesting new office parking at OpenAI every Thursday instead of showing up Monday having forgotten to request it with nowhere to park.
This is confusing. Employees at OpenAI have to request a parking space every week? And if you forget, you’ve got to park somewhere else and walk? Seems like a terrible way to treat your employees but at least they found a use for their own product. If only OpenAI AI Agents could build a parking garage everyone could be happy. Wife is still housesitting for friends so I've been on my own with six dogs. Thankfully, they are relatively low maintenance. I met up with her last night for dinner at this nice Indian place. I have leftovers so life is good. Wolfus, I got a chance to try Unisom last night. So I got four hours of deep sleep vs two from melatonin. Posted by: NR Pax at July 18, 2025 05:26 AM (99eI0) 28

I'm up, sipping coffee, with the Killer Kittenz eyeing me ("And just *when* is our breakfast coming???"). Got enough sleep. Not much pain any more, just when I move in certain ways. Still I'm a bit . . . clogged, shall we say, from the opioid treatment. I'm taking Colace, coffee, drinking more water, and warm water & bicarbonate. Anything else I can try? Please don't say castor oil. My mother had that stuff in the house when I was a kid, and while I never tasted it, the smell alone was revolting. (Trivia: Early WWI fighter planes used castor oil in the engines, and the engines spat a mist of the oil back into the pilots' faces -- with unfortunate results. No wonder they started using those silk "flying" scarves to mask their noses and mouths. The company "Castrol" today derives its name from that time.) Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at July 18, 2025 05:33 AM (a1415) I don’t know. Could’ve been the case back in the day. But as far back as I can remember Savannah was the place to be on St. Patrick’s Day. New Orleans and Savannah and Charleston are all beautiful & quaint southern port cities, but Charleston is the least likely to be a party destination these days, especially compared to N.O. I think Chucktown caters more these days to the ‘mature’ crowds who like walking tours, exploring architecture & history, and good food. Somehow I got myself looking at tourist videos from Charleston on YouTube a few weeks back, just to see what people thought of the city. The consensus among the various visitors seems to be what I laid out above - you can find some bars & clubs but that’s not the main attraction. "but Charleston is the least likely to be a party destination these days, especially compared to N.O."
These day, yes. But there was a time in the early 80's that just seemed to be culturally out of place, where for the 20-something crowd, excess of everything, including alcohol seemed to rule the day. This was the time of 'no-children' apartment living, such as Windjammer, where the weekend parties were legendary. Flying Dutchman, Lazy-B, Private clubs such as Mirage and the Gentleman's Clubs were a staple of single living to excess. Folks passed out on the steps of Customs House on St Patrick's day were not unknown. It was just a blip in time for the storied history of a historic city. But it was there. I've been downsizing for more than a year.
For months now I've been doing what I call "digital scrapbooking." It involves scanning and photographing lots and lots of keepsakes that were packed in boxes decades ago, photo albums, papers that I filled for some reason years ago, greeting cards, tons of stuff. It's been time consuming but it's been good. It's given me an opportunity to reflect on decades of my life and create a digital record to pass on to other family members. Sometimes the emotions get so intense I simply have to get up and walk away from my computer. Mostly it has given me a reason to be thankful. It's also rewarding to see spaces in the house almost completely empty of clutter. Every thing you own owns you. Posted by: Quarter Twenty at July 18, 2025 06:18 AM (XQo4F) 116

That is why AI is now writing word advertising - articles that are really just sales and marketing wrapped up in a lot of eye-wash. It was trend that started in radio and has gone to podcasting. The host will segue into some subject that at first seems interesting, but is nothing more than a setup to pitch some product or service you don't want and couldn't be persuaded to buy. Fortunately, this kind of deception is going to lead people back to reading books since more "articles" will just be advertisements. Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., said the public "deserves to know" whether CBS’s decision to cancel "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on Thursday was politically motivated.
Which has klaxon horn subtlety in informing everyone that "The Late Show" was pure Leftist politics. Posted by: Unknown Drip Under Pressure at July 18, 2025 07:23 AM (a4flb) 173
CBS has new management, they’re finally starting to do something. Best part of Colberts cancellation is that they’re getting rid of his Late Night show completely. Too bad it will run til next year; but I bet they don’t have anything ready to replace it with.

Posted by: fd at July 18, 2025 *** Every single story like this uses the same language like that, e.g., "He was turning his life around," "He was getting ready to go to college," etc. Do the relatives know to put this in, or does the media do it for them? 144 Then there is the larger Dell Webb over in Nexton as well, right off Nexton Pkwy.
Too much development in the general area. Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at July 18, 2025 06:53 AM That’s a serious topic of discussion around these parts. They plan to build something like 30,000 houses on the west side of 17-A from Nexton to Hwy 46. So that’s like 75 - 90,000 more people if you do some napkin math. The area roads and infrastructure were never intended to see that much population and, as usual, the motto for the county is: “Build first, get the taxes, worry about the details later.” They’ll have to do something creative because they can’t widen 17-A through Sangaree without tearing down some buildings at this point. The question I hear most about it is: “Where are all of these people coming from?” And I reply - “Apparently, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, and everywhere up North where they’re tired of taxes and what the Democrats have done to the place.” And the next question is - “Where are they all going to work?” “Good question, you got me, I have no idea.” Posted by: SpeakingOf at July 18, 2025 07:29 AM (6ydKt) 182
