Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | CBS, Now Under New Ownership: We're Cancelling Stephen Colbert's Little-Watched Extremist Leftwing Propaganda Orgy and As a Matter of Fact We're Done With the Whole Late Night Talk Show FormatAndrew Breitbart around 2011: "In five years, it's all gone! The networks, gone! CNN, gone! MSNBC, gone! It's all going down in five years!" He was wrong. But he was close. Newsweek had just reported this was a possibility:The old unfunny TV clowns may wind up... doing podcasts. Like all the rest of the Old Media Dinosaurs. So, what could be an alternative to these old structures? "The thing to watch for is them signing first-look deals with Netflix, HBO or Audible, places that value strong, editorial voices," Navarra said. ... Navarra also pointed to "podcasts, streaming or independent media," where "permissionless speech will thrive." Benson, meanwhile, said that, "It's possible to imagine that either show might find a home at Comcast's cable spinoff Versant, either as part of MSNBC or another channel. But Versant may not be particularly eager to be next in line to face the full-scale political wrath of this administration."Ten days ago, Colbert -- probably already knowing his show was to be cancelled -- got "brave" and attacked his employer for settling with Trump. So that he can claim it was his decision to quit. Stephen Colbert riffed Paramount Global's $16 million settlement of Donald Trump's lawsuit, calling the payment a "big fat bribe" and joking about the prospects that new owner Skydance will try pressure him to back off from humor directed at the president. In a clip from Monday's The Late Show posted on social media, Colbert joked in his monologue, "As someone who has always been a proud employee of this network, I am offended, and I don't know if anything will ever repair my trust in this company. But just taking a stab at it, I'd say $16 million would help."That is Classic Colbert, by which I mean, it's not funny and sounds like it was written by a retard. And now: CBS is canceling his show. Don't get too exited -- he has ten months left before they boot him out. Though I betcha they'll "mutually agree" to an earlier departure. All Stephen Colbert's decision, doncha know. Incidentally: Late night "comedy" talk shows are now officially D E A D. CBS isn't just sh*tcanning Colbert, they're sh*tcanning the whole expensive, unpopular talk show format. TV's ongoing problems with late night have come for Stephen Colbert, with CBS announcing Thursday that it plans to end his "Late Show" after the next TV season, citing a "financial decision." The decision -- which ends years of original late-night programming at CBS that started when the network lured David Letterman from NBC in 1993 -- comes as the economics of wee-hours TV have begun to accelerate, with media companies growing wary of the high price tags involved in producing the shows while the young viewers they try to attract watch more of them via digital video. Can we say that Stephen Colbert's radioactive levels of unfunniness killed the entire late show format? I think we can! Jimmy Kimmel is already suspected of being on the chopping block -- no one's extending his contract. Jimmy Fallon is a phony bore. Seth Meyers -- you forgot about him, didn't you? -- has been delivering MSNBC/Maddow-style political lectures instead of comedy jokes for years. They're all done. All of them. Below, Black Conservative Perspective again, with Stephen Colbert boohoo whinin' and cryin' that his unfunny ratings-basement show is being cancelled. Well he's not really crying. He's pretending it's all cool with him because he doesn't want to take the additional status hit of crying like a bitch on top of being told he's no longer needed. He also has a clip of Colbert attacking Paramount on July 7th -- most likely, after he was told they were going to shut his shit-show down, so all of a sudden he felt like a big strong brave boy. The usual suspects are out whining but the truth is, nobody really cares. All fifteen of Colbert's fans are upset but nobody was watching. Nobody wanted to advertise on the show. No one is affected here except a few people working directly on the show. Colbert will show up on MSNBC or CNN somewhere, he'll always have work for his loyal obedience.

That Vax-Scene thing (he did SEVERAL OF THEM) was so bad, even people who violently supported getting the shot were cringing and couldn't bear to watch. Imagine being in the audience forced to sit through that. Its like a black hole of humiliation, infinitely closing in on its self and drawing everything nearby it into the cringe.
Its interesting, because deliberately cringy stuff can be funny, a lot of humor is based on that (Ron Schneider's entire career), but there's a line that it stops being ironically funny and becomes just awful. Colbert found that line and leaped over it. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at July 18, 2025 02:28 PM (dfIr7) 39

OK, well if you have to cater to your gay audience by promoting all the gay stuffs, and you capitulate on some personal beliefs to satisfy your gay audience, fine. Government agencies like FCC and others have yuge power over broadcasters. Life or death. So the broadcasters put on a few (money-losing) shows that basically pimp for leftwing bureaucrats and related skunkfuck fags. Keeps the regulators away. It's just like all those pharma ads on TV are not really ads so much as bribes to keep the big TV companies from running negative stories about Big Drug. Kimmel was instrumental in saving Obamacare. If you recall the top was going to sorta kinda kill it. There was a lot of astroturfing by the left to convince house reps and senators to reconsider. Nobody is watching and no one wants him there. What's really the point? Posted by: eleven at July 18, 2025 02:42 PM (fV+MH) The networks have contracts with local stations to provide X number of hours of programming per day/week, and this is part of it. This is letting the local stations know that CBS will be cutting back on the number of hours that they are providing and that the locals will need to add programming in that slot. That might mean a longer local 11pm newscast or that CBS might add a late night news show (cheap AF to produce). Posted by: Ashley Judd's Puffy Scamper at July 18, 2025 02:57 PM (k1E2D) 221

I think a lot of the Beatles hate is just an expression of contempt for Boomers. Setting that aside, it's easy to discount the merits or significance of older bands when you grow up in the world they helped create. Same thing happens with literature. Melanie Phillips: Hypocrisy and double standards over the massacre of the Druze
Yet this slaughter elicited no condemnation from those who, day in and day out, signal their own supposed virtue by falsely accusing Israel of war crimes. Faced with the evidence of a horrific attempt to exterminate the Druze, demonstrators who have been screaming about Israel’s “genocide” for the past 21 months were conspicuously absent from the streets and campuses. The likes of Amnesty and Human Rights Watch were silent. Al-Julani’s troops reportedly slaughtered the entire staff at Suweida’s hospital along with their patients. Yet from those who falsely accuse Israel of targeting hospitals in Gaza in order to kill patients and staff—and who wickedly ignore the fact that Hamas has turned them into terrorist hubs and thus made them into legitimate military targets—there was only silence. === No juze, no nuze. Around '65 or '66, one of our local channels had a movie series presented, commercial-free (except at intro and outro) by a local Oldsmobile dealer. They called it "Pajama Drama" and featured title cards with the dealer in a nightshirt and nightcap like Ebenezer Scrooge.
He presented some good flicks. One was The Breaking Point, a rewrite of Hemingway's To Have and Have Not but more noir-ish than the Bogart film, with John Garfield. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at July 18, 2025 03:24 PM (omVj0) 343
From what I have read "The Colonel" kept him from taking several roles by demanding top billing. John Wayne wanted him for True Grit for instance..

CBS could take a tip from themselves ca. 1971: Run the old BBC Avengers episodes with Patrick Macnee, Honor Blackman, and Diana Rigg. Plus they could add Danger Man/Secret Agent with Patrick McGoohan.
Ratings couldn't be worse and would probably improve. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at July 18, 2025 03:09 PM (omVj0) think someone was doing that in the 80s and 90s. Old Mission Impossible too. Posted by: Oldcat at July 18, 2025 03:25 PM (8avO+) 346
it's easy to discount the merits or significance of older bands when you grow up in the world they helped create
------ Sure. The Beatles sucked. When you grow up with all kinds of dorks being lame because they want to emulate the guys who got rich by being the First and Greatest of the Lameoids, then you learn to dislike them just a bit. Could you have a "Coldplay" without the Beatles before them? Or even a "fun?" I think not. I blame them for the Revenge of the Pussies we all had to live through in the 2000s. The funniest Elvis thing I ever saw...he was on stage absolutely high out of his mind on god know what cocktail of pharmaceuticals...couldn't put a sentence together...and they pan to the crowd and it's all these awestruck beehive ladies just dousing their panties.

Last live show that Elvis did in 1977, despite being messed up visibly by whatever cocktail Dr. Nic had given him, he does an outstanding cover version of Unchained Melody. Sad but demonstrates his great vocal chops.

When I was in high school, I would do my homework at 11:30 at night while watching old movies. Ed McMahon would come out of the vault holding a movie reel. It was great.
I know the plots of numerous old movie (for which I don't know their names) Posted by: SMOD at July 18, 2025 03:18 PM (RHGPo) In college there were a pair of upperclassmen who were famed for knowing the plot of those afternoon movies with about 10 seconds as they came into the suite. It was uncanny. Posted by: Oldcat at July 18, 2025 03:29 PM (8avO+) 350

Has anyone done a mash-up of George C. Scott's reaction shot from Hardcore with Colbert's terrible Vax-scene routine? It seems like a natural.
