154 Some sad news. We had to put down Precious the Bichon yesterday. She was 17 and had a brain tumor that was growing. We knew she was gradually failing, like any older dog. Monday morning she had four seizures in an hour and a half. A trip to the vet confirmed the problem which was going to quickly get worse. So we made the decision.

We were blessed to have her for two happy years and were able to give her care and love. We've faced this decision many times over the years but it never gets easier. Now to concentrate on the happy memories.

So the new Superman flick is a bomb and the Fantastic Four looks like it will be a dud. The superhero movie age is so far past its prime.

I remember looking forward to film adaptations back when I was a mostly-Marvel fan in my yout'. Stan Lee (over) promised a Silver Surfer movie back in something like '68. Wondered how they were going to do that without all the great epic build-up in the comics, the FF, the Watcher, and Galactus. It would have been bad, like the 1995 FF unreleased movie.

The Hollywood answer always seems to be, we can "improve" on the comics. Riiight. Just like book adaptations. Hey, guys! What if we did a great, well-cast, almost frame-by-frame adaptation of Watchmen, but completely change the ending? ⚞💡⚟

I lost my Merry Marvel Marching Society membership card when my 1960s comic book collection got stolen in the early '70s. I've almost recovered.

I got no pony in this hunt, but I'm sorta looking at it like a fertility clinic. The idea is you cause pregnancy where it's been dry, and sometimes it rains babies.

Would there be NO way for that to be true of cloud seeding?

If possible, it becomes necessary for people who do understand these things to be patient with those who don't. And keep explaining. Because people are hurting and confused and angry, and not thinking rationally.

I read that book while at SOBC (signal officer basic course). Fascinating book. They would set up the mock compound at night and tear it down every dawn to keep it hidden from Soviet satellites. We had a dining in. The other LTs asked all kinds of banal questions about other stuff but somehow I sussed out that the guest at my table knew Bull Simons so I asked him about the raid and that pretty much dominated the conversation. Hitting it empty must have been heartbreaking.

Will other counties do the same? Will the State of Texas be stampeded into placing a network of warning sirens in every flash-flood risk area and everywhere else to warn of tornadoes? If the State pays for a warning system somewhere, every Karen in the State will demand one, too. Some people will still not understand why the sirens are sounding; some will ignore them; some will take heed but move too slowly to get out of danger. Then what is the next safety step?

We were discussing that earlier today. The problem is that it’s beautiful green pasture land with small clumps of trees with a lazy stream running through it every day for 25 years. Then suddenly it becomes absolute hell on earth for 2 days and everyone there dies. And then it goes back to being beautiful and gentle for another 25 years.

Make it like an Amber Alert system. In those states that are prone to tornados and whatnot, have everyone's phone go off when there's a storm coming. Make it REAL loud.

Don't be too specific either, we all know these storms can shift and change directions, so if something's coming in, say, Amarillo, make sure they get the sirens on everyone's phones as far away as El Paso.
