The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

The headline says it all!

What this demonstrates is that the enforcement of our laws protecting American workers from predation by illegals is woefully inadequate. A nice fine levied against every employer who employs illegals would be a fine start. How about 100 times the hourly wage employers pay the illegals....each day they work? That ought to focus their minds on the basic documentation necessary to prove legal employment status. And the whining protestations from these employers are insulting. How hard is it to prove that a prospective employee is legal? It's called an "I-9," and it is administered by the federal government. Those meatpacking plants in Iowa and the strawberry farms in California and landscaping services all over the country can go pound sand if it is too difficult. It's the law, and by breaking it they subvert the economic and cultural recovery of America. I have zero sympathy, and in fact would love to see criminal charges brought against a few dozen CEOs, to encourage the others!

And if they make the specious argument that the I-9 system is insufficient, then the Trump Administration is capable of bolstering that process. But it is the employers' responsibility to ensure that their employees are legal, and if it takes more time and costs a bit more to be certain, well, that is the price I am willing for them to pay!

LA needs construction, landscape workers as illegal immigrants stop showing up for work amid ICE enforcement

In Los Angeles, landscapers as well as framers are not showing up to job sites as President Donald Trump is carrying out his agenda and crack down on illegal immigration in cities around the nation.

According to Bloomberg, LA, which erupted in riots against Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) earlier last month after ICE was conducting operations in the city, has been seeing low staffing in some industries that have relied on immigrant labor such as construction and landscaping.

“We don’t have enough people to staff the work and we’re scrambling to figure it out,” said Arturo Sneider, the CEO at Primestor, a real major estate management company in California and two other states. “It’s triggering delays."

Well Arturo...tough shit. Pay a decent wage to legal workers and you will have your pick of legal employees. In fact, why don't you sponsor a job fair and some training programs for high school students who need jobs.

Hell, expand that to every high school in the country. So we need framers? Great! I've done it, and it isn't that hard to learn. And a few weeks of instruction on how to run a leaf blower may even be within the skillset of some of our public school teachers! These are entry-level jobs and are just perfect for people just starting in the job market.

America doesn't have a labor problem. There are plenty of people to fill these jobs, but not at the artificially low wages that the GOPe and the globalists prefer. Labor is governed by basic economic laws, just like everything else. But if the legal wage is higher than the illegal wage, the labor market is distorted, and does not function normally.

As for relief for certain industries? No. America has seen too much variability in the application of the law, and a generation or two of rigid and vigorous application of labor and immigration law will do wonders for our respect for our institutions, and begin to repair the horrid damage that illegal immigration has done to our country.

5 Pay a decent wage to legal workers and you will have your pick of legal employees.

Working in meatpacking plants was a good union job until the 1990's.

Then the meatpacking companies figured out that illegals were a lot cheaper.

Now, ICE is denounced for deporting the hard-working employees at meatpacking plants.

43 I seem to recall that one of the recent ICE busts at a packing plant (chicken?) nabbed many illegal aliens. And was used as an example of how Americans DO want to do the work - they needed new workers, they did job fairs or similar, and there were a bunch of Americans at the door trying to get employed.

But another aspect was the Social Security fraud - the illegal aliens apparently "passed" the system because their SSN info appeared legit. Mostly because they were using stolen numbers and info. So the I-9 or whatever came back as "Legit!" despite being far from it.

How many victims had their lives ruined because the IRS went after them? Wages garnished, refunds unfunded, even having to deal with courts when they didn't do a single thing wrong - someone else, who didn't even follow the law to get into the country, screwed them over.

Hopefully that's something the DOGE team has been working on, even without Elon Musk at the helm.

Markets work wonders--e.g. if the task is too labor intensive at wage rates, either prices for that task go up causing buyers to question whether it is needed or in the long run--high labor costs often lead to mechanization and changes in cultivation patterns.

Extensive gardening in HOAs, business parks, and all sorts of real estate land grooming requirements require a cheap ass level of labor that is only sustainable with cheap labor pricing.

Move to zero scaping, etc. reduced plantings of screens so mowing is easier, and so on is one example of that.

Agriculture needs chemicals, etc. and labor, grooming people's home lawns much less so and excessive yard wastes from fertilizers, lawn chemicals, etc. run off into the various ditches, creeks, etc. into a lot of drinking water for suburbs and cities.

Farmers are more careful about using those chemicals, in part due to price+application, and second, because they can negatively affect soils.

69 1+ million already self-deported.

This is before doing any of these, which Trump can do:

1) Requiring all Section 8 landlords to certify under penalty of perjury that their tenants are citizens/Lawful Permanent Residents
2) Requiring all gov. contractors to certify under penalty of perjury that all their employees are citizens/LPR
3) Requiring all Medicare/Medicaid providers to certify all recipients are citizens/LPR

And that's before announcing that every business has 6 months to confirm all employees are citizens/LPR, after which the owners and executives will be arrested if not in compliance.

None of these require a single ICE arrest.
But, it'll lead to at least 10 million self-deporting.

I suspect most of the 10% or so of illegals that work have longish commutes. They certainly can't afford to live in the blue enclaves they work in.

80 There is also the fact that employers are competing against the welfare system and in the case of teenagers competing against the allowance from mom and dad, free rent with good wifi etc etc. It is not just "pay a decent wage and workers will show up",

People who choose not to work may not know what calculus is, but they are performing a calculus of sorts to determine if the meager bump in income they can get by taking an entry level job is worth losing that many hours of free time. Welfare reform would help. Capping how many years you can draw welfare; if you can never hold a job, that is a disability situation, jump through those hoops. Also they should not take away a dollar in benefits per dollar earned. Change the rules so you can keep your bennies and work say 10 hours a week at a very starter job to prove to employers you know how to show up; then do a sliding percent reduction, and have the social workers explaining that "with the earned income tax credit you will get that money when you file your taxes.

Posted by: Boss Moss
======
Reduce the pressure on welfare rolls by having a job market for the former layabouts. Late Clinton years had low inflation, high labor participation rates, and mostly native employment due to Gingrich TANF rules, etc.

Don't like Clinton much but it is true what they said, a job earning cash is the best social welfare program out there. Strong job markets reduce crime, reduce drug use, and reduce other bad habits like generational welfare families.

That means, however, you keep out foreign labor to compete.

Every nation that lets in cheap labor from abroad is guaranteed higher crime, more internal disorder, and shittier living conditions for the natives. Those that keep immigration barriers high, even if the society is relatively poor, the civil society can compensate sustaining low crime, and decent living conditions--Japan is an example.

Now, they can take those profits, buy the stock, inflating the stock price from two directions, and the CEOs cash massive bonuses/stock options.
But, that all requires ever and ever cheaper labor because they no longer invest in physical facilities, limping along with 30-40+ year old equipment.

Cheap, unlimited immigrant labor drives down all wages, not just the physical labor wages.

140 127 Judge did not actually do the hard work to certify a class according to existing rules so this ruling was a ruling by a lazy ass virtue signalling clown judge.

A class of all the world wanting to come here minus US citizens is not compliant with certification of a class.

141 There is also the fact that employers are competing against the welfare system and in the case of teenagers competing against the allowance from mom and dad

----------------

Kids can do landscaping, but the market is so dominated by quick cheap landscapers kids really don't break into as much. It just isn't efficient. Why hire a kid who could do it for a summer or a year - but he will then move on - only to know you will have to find another one the following year.

Cheap landscaping service is just easy. Likely with illegal labor, but it is easy and efficient for everyone.

But if that labor goes away and the cost goes up, then it definitely opens up the market for teenagers.

Good luck getting a teenager on a construction project with today's safety and insurance.

Yes, and COINCIDENTALLY when Trump takes office and drops the hammer on H1B visas, I get substantial pay raises. UNEXPECTEDLY!!!!!!!!!

One of the COBS should write up an article about how badly the H1B visa process is corrupted/abused.

Ultimately, ending birthright citizenship will be a result of electoral success coupled with a compliant Court. The latter will be a result of the former. Either because a new justice gets added or because the political winds are too strong for the Court to go against.

Rogue district court justices help because they are the ones going against the Court - not Trump. This helps on both fronts.

Still a very uphill climb, but with luck the left's TDS will make it easier.

My personal guess is that Scotus rules against the president but allows Congress to legislate to exclude illegals as not subject to the jurisdiction thereof which would end them being able to claim natural born status. That allows the Court to avoid the wailing and denaturalizing of those prior to Congress passing such a law but allows the rule to apply prospectively.

That will be a major issue because it would be subject to a filibuster and not able to be included for reconciliation bills.

Court interdynamics is similar to Kremlinology. Simply put, it is a long term relationship that lasts longer than many of these justices' marriages until death or disability do they part.

We find out about a lot of the personal relationships decades later unless there is some sort of crisis like Justice Douglas trying to hold on as a justice. That crisis required all eight other justices threatening to support his impeachment if he did not resign because of senility and alcoholism.

274 Honestly, I think KJB's a gift. A constant reminder of what DEI brings to the table and a constant reminder of the worthlessness that was the *biden junta and the Republicans who voted to confirm her. Seriously, SCOTUS now firmly embedded in sitcom territory.

277 Non-natives will always give hiring preference to their own ethnic group. If the government provides a way for them to get more of that group into the country, they'll use it.

Never hire an Indian or Chinese to run any department in tech.

I've heard so many stories of companies that put them in charge of hiring and, within years, the entire department is replaced with all of theirs.
And utterly incompetent while feverishly covering for each other.

282 Perhaps, courts do love a good old reliance argument.
Posted by: SH (no more socks)
======
Courts in a long line of cases has proposed that Congress has plenary power over immigration and the few Robert's court decisions like Trump v. Hawaii have reiterated that. So relatively easy for Roberts, etc. to persuade the Court to do that.

Technically, as they have in criminal cases, they can apply grandfathering to prior cases where children born to illegals prior to Trump declaration are American citizens but those after are not. That requires more legal reasoning to support such a distinction.

A few times, the Court has simply ruled and left the political branches to fix the problem.

One such way would be that Congress will feel immense pressure if Scotus allowed Trump's declaration to stand to allow grandfathering of past pseudo natural born illegals in exchange for banning future pseudo natural born illegals.

284 192 Almost no one wants to work, but people do it because they want goods and services. Yes some people have "jobs they love" but that's honestly rare.

And this is oddly something the left doesn't get about the economy.

So if salaries go up more people will take jobs. And removing illegals/H1Bs will increase the salaries of this jobs (supply and demand)

289 The illegals in the construction trades are not working for low wages. They are paid just as much as USA citizens. The people who keep arguing that they are getting slave wages don't know what they are talking about. The savings for employers is in the FICA, UI, Workman's Comp, etc that they have to cover for legal employees. It about doubles the cost of wages.

Posted by: Ignore contards at July 10, 2025 02:06 PM (g4Mek)

290 Employing illegals is a two-fer for employers who employ illegals. It's not just the lower pay. It's also that these workers have no rights. Injured on the job? Fired. No workers' comp for you. Sexually harassed or, worse yet, sexually assaulted on the job? Keep your mouth shut or you'll be fired and/or deported. Health care mandates? That's what the whole "free healthcare for illegals" mantra is all about.

I hate to sound like I'm channeling my inner Marxist here, but the exploitation runs deeper than mere low pay.

Yep!

Worse still, the illegals get to CLAIM those benefits without anyone paying into the system.
