Media in Grim Funk as Much-Heralded Trump Recession Continues Not Arriving
Update: Americans Fill the New Jobs While Illegals Lose Theirs

147,000 jobs created in June, beating expectations. It's not huge job growth, but it's steady and it's better than what the doomsayers in the media and in the banks keep wishcasting.

The unemployment rate also fell to 4.1%. I remember the media insisting the economy was doing great under Biden because unemployment was 4.6%. Any chance the media will apply the same rule here?

Even better: Real wages increased and inflation remains low.

For the fourth consecutive month, the U.S. economy under President Trump has outperformed expectations--adding 147,000 jobs in June and pushing unemployment down to 4.1%.

Key Details:

The Department of Labor reported Thursday that 147,000 jobs were added in June, exceeding economists' forecasts of 110,000. Unemployment fell to 4.1%, defying predictions of a rise to 4.3%.

Revisions to prior months also boosted job totals. April's job creation was revised upward by 11,000 to 158,000, and May gained an additional 5,000, bringing that month's total to 144,000.

Wages continued to climb, with average hourly earnings up 0.2% in June and 3.7% over the past year--well above the current inflation rate. Private-sector production and nonsupervisory workers saw even stronger growth at 0.3%.

Diving Deeper:

The U.S. labor market remains resilient, as employers added 147,000 new jobs in June--far surpassing expectations and bringing fresh momentum to a workforce shaped by President Trump's trade and tax policy agenda. The June report from the Department of Labor, released Thursday, showed not only stronger monthly job growth but also a drop in the unemployment rate to 4.1%, despite forecasts calling for a slight increase.

Economists had been bracing for signs of a slowdown, especially following the rollout of Trump administration tariffs aimed at strengthening domestic industries. Instead, job gains were broad-based and upward revisions to April and May added another 16,000 positions to the employment tally.

Private employers were responsible for 74,000 of the new positions, while the public sector contributed another 73,000. Within the federal workforce, employment shrank by 7,000--underscoring the Trump administration's stated effort to rein in government bloat.

...

Wage growth continued at a healthy pace, with average hourly earnings rising 0.2% in June and 3.7% over the past year--figures that outstrip inflation and reinforce optimism about workers' real purchasing power. Non-supervisory and production employees in the private sector saw a stronger 0.3% monthly gain.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt touted the report on Thursday morning, noting on X that this marks "the FOURTH month in a row" of beating job expectations, and emphasizing that "American-born workers have accounted for ALL of the job gains since President Trump took office." She added, "The economy is BOOMING again and it will only get better when the One, Big Beautiful Bill is passed and implemented!"

Even better:

Wokeness
@EndWokeness

Most important data from June:

🟢 830k new jobs for native-born
🔴 348K jobs lost for foreign-born

🟢 437k gain of new full-time jobs
🔴 367k loss of old part-time jobs

Major reversal of the Biden era

Thanks to Aetius451AD. Other commenters pointed out that the jobs went mostly to actual Americans.

I saw a video of a black guy saying he saw, in his neighborhood, black guys doing landscaping work. Obviously, those jobs have been taken by illegals for decades.

When I said "media doomsayers," I wasn't exaggerating:

Meanwhile the Democrats are melting down about the Big Beautiful Bill forcing the able-bodied childless adults Obama allowed to claim Medicaid to at least get a job in exchange for their taxpayer-provided benefits.

Hakeem Jeffries thinks he's Spartacus.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries took control of the House floor early Thursday with a marathon speech to stall a final vote on President Trump's nearly 900-page Big Beautiful Bill. Jeffries has said he'll take "my sweet time."

Key Details:

Jeffries began speaking at 4:53 a.m. under the "magic minute" rule, which lets party leaders speak without time limits. As of midmorning, he had passed the four-hour mark.
The nearly 900-page bill includes major Trump priorities, including tax cuts, energy reforms, and spending reductions. GOP leaders gave just 30 minutes per committee for debate.
Jeffries used his time to read letters from constituents about federal programs like Medicaid, claiming the cuts would cost lives.

This entitled princess cries that she had to take a plane back to DC to do her f***ing job.

Democrats don't want jobs-- they only want paychecks. They just do not want to work at all. They want to sit in the office and play with their phones and start company slack-chats in which they rant about their extremist cultish politics all day.

They think that work is beneath them. They think they're all unrecognized Nobles.

I keep finding this fascinating because early communistic propaganda was all about the glory of work setting one free.

So they had to start counting fake jobs twice: Once as "saved" and another as "funded"

And were still having to deploy "unexpectedly" regularly.

To say nothing of the downward revisions months later.

I would guess not. I would guess she has not even read the bill and has no idea what is in it and is just putting out social media rants based on talking points that were given to her.

All appropriation and tax bills are shit shows but the major thrust is that the debt ceiling debate will be taken off the table until after the midterms AND that massive resources available for deportations (that serve to pull native Americans off welfare and into jobs will continue). More busy butts, less yutes shooting up the cities. That in turn lessens mandatory entitlement spending and welfare.

"“The Republican continuing resolution serves only to continue the anxiety in the lives of DREAMers, veterans, children and working families across America,” said House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). “It had been our hope not only to improve the quality of this bill but to add the DREAM Act to it, which enjoys strong bipartisan support from the American people.”"

Just because Jeffries is a whinier bitch than Pelosi, I don't think it proves anything.

I wonder what the hit on power and durability is to go full battery-operated. I'll bet it's big.

I bought a battery-operated handheld model last year and I love it. It's so much easier to just go blow off the deck, or whatever. However, it's still quite noisy, and is in no way a substitute for my big gas model.

Now the likes Dynamite Comics is suing Diamond to recover a million dollars or they won't meet payroll next week.

Where it will get even more entertaining is what the new owners are trying to do. Sell off what is in the warehouses at a bargain price to generate some cash. There is one catch, a lot of the merchandise was on consignment to Diamond.

197 Labor Force Participation: The labor force participation rate fell, with 234,000 more people not in the labor force, bringing the total to 1.8 million who had not looked for work in the past four weeks. Approximately 6.5 million people not in the labor force still wanted jobs. Long-term unemployment (27+ weeks) accounted for 23.3% of the unemployed.

ADP Report Discrepancy: The ADP National Employment Report, released July 2, 2025, reported a private sector job loss of 33,000, contrasting sharply with the BLS's 74,000 private sector job gain. ADP highlighted losses in professional/business services (-56,000) and health/education (-52,000), offset by gains in goods-producing sectors (+32,000). This discrepancy underscores ADP's inconsistent track record in predicting BLS figures.

==========
That was why Trump wanted One Big Bill while the US Senate wanted two. From what I understand, you get two reconciliation bills per Congress in the Senate according to the Budget Act of 1974/senate rules.

The current spending reconciliation bill takes care of taxes, debt ceiling, etc. through this Congress.

That leaves the next reconciliation bill to directly address the deficit and return to regular order starting in for the next fiscal year in Oct 2025.

In between you get rescission bills which cannot be filibustered since the US will no longer be under CRs when the current bill passes.

House has already passed one such and Johnson should have less problems doing more rescission bills going forward. The question then becomes Thune and the Senate disposition of these. Rescission bills will strike at the heart of the DC establishment and wealth.

Private Sector: Added 74,000 jobs, below the expected 100,000 to 115,000, marking the smallest monthly gain since October 2024. Excluding healthcare and education, private payrolls grew by only 23,000, well below the 12-month average of 50,000.

Manufacturing: Lost 7,000 jobs, aligning with expectations of a decline.

Layoffs and Jobless Claims: Initial unemployment claims for the week ending June 28 fell to 233,000, down 4,000 from the prior week and below the expected 240,000. Continuing claims remained high at 1.964 million, indicating challenges for the unemployed in finding new work. Layoff announcements in June totaled 47,999, a 49% decline from May, though year-to-date layoffs were elevated, partly due to 288,628 cuts from the Department of Government Efficiency initiative.

Demographic Trends: Native-born employment rose by 2,079,000 in 2025, while foreign-born employment fell by 543,000. This shift was highlighted in some analyses as a notable trend.

Humphrey Hawkins gives the Fed two mandates--one is to maximize employment and the other to cut inflation. But, a virtuous spiral can result in higher labor costs from increased employment yet relatively tame inflation for now. That is because as a reserve currency, the US exports the inflation to the producing countries while gathering a tariff that diminishes those effects in the US. Plus, it lowers the non productive expenses on entitlements from reduced welfare spending, etc.

What Trump is essentially doing is similar to policy prescriptions that the IMF used to impose on other countries. Remove the bloated government employees, produce more than you consume, and set your financial house in order.

That will likely just drive companies to do what the auto industry has been doing with their engineering workforce over the past 5 years... outsource to BCCs (Best Cost Countries).

Stellantis specifically has done this over the past 4 years since the FCA-PSA merger. Pushed out thousands of local engineers and managers and outsourced 50-75% of engineering work to cheap labor "engineers" in India, Mexico and people from India living in Canada. Paying them 1/3 to 1/2 of what was paid to direct employee engineers.

My group of 75 within my department of hundreds has 9 local engineers and 66 outsourced cheap labor "engineers". 88% of the group. 5 years ago, it was 100% local engineers.

Lots of time to just cut stuff.

I think the American people's opinions on government spending have still gone no further than "cut theirs, not mine."

What's potentially changed is the idea that "theirs" is a whole lot bigger than thought along with a president unwilling to bow to "theirs".

Ultimately, the American people just want to feel comfortable and fed and vote largely based on that.

The midterms will be based on economic conditions not how much was or was not cut in the OBBB or about how many toes we dip into war in the Middle East.

Some confused the debt limit ceiling being raised with actual new debt. Some wanted items that can't be considered under reconciliation and then demanded that the Senate effectively nuke the filibuster to do what they want, some bitched about the new deductions for tips, Social Security, overtime--too much or too little, etc.

And I honestly think some of it was fake crap by drive by nics with no past posts. Seen that on other websites.

The sad truth is every appropriations bill is larded with shit to get passed--they are all shit sandwiches since the Continental Congress days. So, what you do as a leader is minimize the destructive shit, maximize the good stuff, and pass the bill. Governance rather than posturing about what can never be.

Often, this will be a better investment than ANY other.

Home is already the largest investment most people have and there is a much better Tax outcome from treating your home as such.

I think every Righty knows. Most are seriously pissed off about it. A large minority of them think it's exactly what should be happening, and unsurprisingly, many of those are wealthy people with a lot of influence . Therein lies the problem the GOP has had since Golden Escalator Day.

DOGE is still working without him there. But the issue is going to be what you can get through Congress. BBB has some very important cuts, but it's obviously far from the whole enchilada. That's OK though, the Marxists got us into this mess incrementally so we can get out of it incrementally.

408 If real Americans were actually “filling the jobs” wouldn’t reported labor force participation stayed even (or even risen)? It fell by 329,000. Another alarming metric that points to “filling the job” narrative being potentially false is that those who were unemployed and didn’t seek a job in the last month also grew quite substantially, more so than the actual job gains (+234,000 mom/1.8M total now).

If you go by household survey as a more accurate gauge of job creation (+93,000), state/local gov’t jobs #’s and gov’t workers still on severance likely the only reason it’s a positive number.

That manufacturing jobs also declined.. it’s not all roses.

They are. Big Balls is working as the DOGE rep at Social Security. That is the epicenter of fake SSN and fraudulent multiple individuals using the same SSN. Having an SSN unlocks a lot of fraud, waste, and abuse in Soc. Security, Medicare, and other government programs.

Reducing government employees help as more of them take the buyouts and leave by October, reducing idiotic wasteful spending propping up that clown in Ukraine, and so on will help.

Musk was always the figurehead and initiator of DOGE but never the end goal of it.

Not really. Germany was most likely intending to go to war anyway which released post war German government documents and interviews supported.

The world had several crises that nearly led to Germany doing so in French dominated Morocco twice before backing down.
