My son gave his oldest the keys to the boat yesterday. Got about 8 miles out in Carancahua Bay with his buddies and ran out of gas...best part is a few hours earlier he and his buds took the Volvo to Palacious and ran out of gas in that too!

30 I was at the parade today, and I noticed that women were wearing a) shorts, b) blue jeans, and c) long skirts and dresses.

The ladies wearing jeans looked like they wore them to work in, There were no short shorts or micro dresses.
I like seeing long skirts, I suspect it means that the economy is doing well.

Ace remarked earlier today how generationally young the United States is, how its entire history fits into a few generations. I realized that all 4 of my grandparents, each of whom I knew well, were all old enough to understand and celebrate the Sesquicentennial in 1926. Their grandparents were most likely alive when Jefferson and Adams died in 1826. And I know of one ancestor who fought with Washington, and another who was in the French and Indian war. Not really that long ago.

That was a brutal day. My oldest's in-laws have a small place on the Guadalupe in Wimberly that was directly across the river from that house that floated away with people in it. They knew each other by sitting in the river and having beers occasionally. In-laws house sat high enough to survive but they cancelled their stay this weekend when they saw the flooding thats coming to them.

57 Flash flooding is part of life in that part of the country. That's why I'm confused by what happened. The ground can't absorb that much water in so little time. And the people who live there know that. Their should have been warnings put out about the possibility of flash flooding. It's not just West Texas this can happen anywhere in the Southwest. People should be made aware of this. It can and does happen. Prayers for those who have lost loved ones.

I know it's hot, but if it's any consolation, we hit aphelion yesterday. I missed it, getting mixed up thinking it was today.

Anyway, there's a couple day window where it doesn't change move. Sun is now 94.503 million miles away. The solar disc is its smallest apparent diameter in the sky.

There is no real soil down there, just a little bit of dirt on top of the limestone. Plus, they said 12 inches of rain in 45 minutes and no kind of land will soak that up.

There's a dispute on that last "largest". In surface area, Superior is indeed, largest, but Lake Baikal in Russia has it beat in volume, because of its depth, at its deepest, almost a mile.
