Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Jaguar's Sales Drop by 97.5% After Bizarre Gender-Blender Rebranding CampaignCongratulations, Jaguar. You took your brand, which had been associated with prestige, achievement, and masculinity, and turned it into the Drag Queen Story Hour of automobiles. Here was there disastrous ad, if you've banished it from your memory:
No, they sell what all corporations are selling these days: Marxism and child-grooming. The Daily Caller reports that desire for the once-desirable brand has collapsed. Jaguar's sales in Europe have plunged dramatically, with only 49 vehicles registered in April 2025, a 97.5% drop from the 1,961 units sold in the same month the previous year. Jaguar's European sales plummeted by 97.5% and year-to-date figures show a 75.1% decline in sales, with just 2,665 units sold from January to April 2025. Globally, Jaguar's performance dropped sharply from 180,833 units in 2018 to 26,862 units in FY24/25, holding a market share of just 0.1% in both Australia and the U.K. These sales figures follow Jaguar's bold rebrand in November 2024, which departs from its traditional identity. The luxury automaker unveiled a new logo and advertising campaign that notably excluded depictions of cars, instead featuring androgynous models in vibrant attire, with slogans like "Copy Nothing" and "Live Vivid," positioning Jaguar as a modern, inclusive brand. Critics slammed Jaguar's rebrand for straying too far from the brand's performance-focused roots, accusing it of pandering to a "woke" agenda. So another woke corporation chases off its old "pale and male" customer base to replace them with... nobody. Or maybe with this guy: ![]() Few on the woke far-left have the money for bus fare never mind a Jaguar. And they wouldn't want to buy something so associated with yucchy male-centered traditional notions of achievement and excellence even if they did. So you wiped out billions in corporate value for a virtue signal. Was it worth it? Today ist the day on Sprockets when ve set fire to all of our shareholder value. The ad campaign is terrible; but even worse is Jaguar's decision to stop all gas engine production and go 100% electric, including a complete shutdown while they made the transition.
Both decisions are indicative of a management that has been making decisions on a totally political basis, with no thought of economics or risk I believe Jaguar is not only headed for Bankruptcy, but Liquidation. So long Jaguar, you had a good run. It's a shame. Posted by: Tom Servo at July 01, 2025 01:15 PM (uWKK8) 6
I don't blame the people who created the ad. I blame the idiots in the executive suite who okayed it. They need to be fired to a person, although if sales don't pick up, that may be superfluous.

Boxy.
But still recognizable. Unlike Jaguar. Time for my fav Jag story. Worked with an attorney once in a rural area. He drove his Jag. Since it was rural, we had a lot of counties in our court district. Which meant lots of travel. So the cops in one county, which had court only once a month, would look up the court calendar and just wait for my colleague to come barreling out of the canyon into the valley in his Jag. They pulled him over on principle, just to mess with him. Usually they could ticket him since he had a lead foot. He got rid of the Jag, finally. Too much in ticket costs! Gorsh, Goofy, maybe the low sales is not because of their dogshit branding, but because they stopped making cars to sell.
From PJ Media: "This dramatic drop coincided with Jaguar’s effort to reinvent itself as an all-electric luxury marque. "Under the “Reimagine” plan introduced in 2021, the company halted internal combustion model production in anticipation of an EV relaunch set for 2025–2026. "By late 2024, Jaguar suspended sales in the U.K., leaving dealerships with almost no inventory." Jaguar CEO Adrian Mardell is a genius, I tell you! Well worth the millions they're paying him. PJ Media says: Jag's nosedive isn't because of the brand's woke rebranding, although it does stem from the same mindset — one they'll teach in business schools for decades as an example of what not to do. You see, Jaguar stopped selling cars because they stopped making them: This dramatic drop coincided with Jaguar’s effort to reinvent itself as an all-electric luxury marque. Under the “Reimagine” plan introduced in 2021, the company halted internal combustion model production in anticipation of an EV relaunch set for 2025–2026. When do shareholders finally get to sue a company that torches their brand on purpose. Does anyone ever get fired for this? If you have this shitty of a plan for marketing there must be some data out there that shows this strategy will work, right? Who is lying to who at the corporate level?

Looked up a bit on Tata Motors out of India, which still owns Jaguar - they have already written off most of their investment in it. It seems like much depends on a new electric battery plant, subsidized by the British Government in Britain, to be ready in 2026.
But I suspect Tata is now getting ready to simply liquidate the entire Jaguar Brand. Just keep it as a dead nameplate, maybe to relaunch in a small way some day. Posted by: Tom Servo at July 01, 2025 01:25 PM (uWKK8) 58

Something like 70% of cars "sold" were actually leased. Because the people that drive them know they're super unreliable and finicky and don't want to deal with a 4 year old Jaguar or LR that's falling apart. Of course, LR and Jaguar knew that too, which is why those cars were so expensive to lease, the resale value at the end of the lease was pretty atrocious. From what I read, the problem isn't that they created a woke advertisement. (although that sure didn't help.)
The problem is that they shut down the actual production of ICE Jaguars before they had production of Electric Jaguars. So even if you wanted to buy a Jaguar (ICE or Electric), you couldn't because the dealerships had no Jaguars of any kind available, in stock, to sell. I remember doing a case study on different car companies while I was still in school -- if I recall, back then, Land Rover and Jaguar's were far and away the most leased cars on the planet.
Land Rover is doing very well, with almost all of its models -- they are all SUVs of some kind -- selling well and are actually quite good. Ironically, Jag was selling its own versions of the same cars. But customers preferred the styling and brand cache that Land Rover brought. Posted by: bob (moron incognitus) at July 01, 2025 01:40 PM (RU1zG) I agree. It really has been something to behold. There is such a tiny subset of the market that would be interested in Teslas. Namely, people who have fairly high incomes, don't drive very far, often have warm weather, have a place to charge the car, love tech gadgets and are not "car guys". For the rest of the country, the range limitations are enough to say "eh, fuck it." Like yeah, I don't drive 400 miles every day, but I do like the ability to drive 400 miles without spending half the trip freaking out looking for a charger and worrying that my battery life is going to decrease due to the cold weather and I'll be stuck on the side of the road somewhere. Same reason I drive a small SUV -- 90% of the time, I'd be fine driving a 2-seater Smart Car. But I don't want to have to rent a car that other 10% of the time that I need to move people or things around with me. Posted by: Harry Paratestes at July 01, 2025 01:44 PM (uCjyK) 182

"Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), the renowned British luxury car manufacturer, has ended its partnership with its advertising agency, Accenture Song, after a rebranding effort that sparked widespread criticism. The bold campaign, unveiled in late 2024, aimed to redefine Jaguar’s image but instead alienated fans and drew mockery across social media. This shake-up serves as a wake-up call for businesses navigating brand transformations in the competitive luxury market."

That rebranding was a disaster, but also they can't sell cars they don't have and they basically stopped making ICE cars, pending retooling to make only EVs. Without cars to sell, their dealers are, of course, selling virtually no cars except old stock.
This is not to defend that God-awful ad campaign at all; what a stupid horror show of a "car" commercial. But that's not the entire reason for their lack of sales. If I were a Jaguar dealer, I'd be suing them for breach of contract - Dealer agrees to sell cars, and assumes lots of fixed expenses related to such sales, in anticipation of Manufacturer sending them cars to sell. SHOULD NATURALIZED CITIZENS LOSE THEIR CITIZENSHIP FOR CRIMINAL CHARGES?
Viral claim says the Trump Admin will strip naturalized Americans of their citizenship if they’re charged with crimes — NOT convicted, just charged. Is that even legal? Here’s the truth: Being CHARGED isn’t the same as being GUILTY. The U.S. Constitution guarantees due process for every citizen — natural-born or naturalized. Even under Trump, denaturalization only applied to those who LIED during the immigration process — not to people lawfully sworn in and then accused of a crime. Conservatives believe in law and order, but also in constitutional rights. If you break the law, you do the time — but citizenship isn’t something you lose without a full legal process. We should deport illegals, crack down on fraud, and defund sanctuary cities — but let’s not allow false rumors to distract from Trump’s real mission: Restoring the rule of law and putting America #hodgetwins Posted by: rickb223 at July 01, 2025 01:49 PM (KdGoM) 214

Jaguar has been a dying brand for a long time, this was a last gasp at relevance.
Jaguar will cease to be a company in 3-5 years. Posted by: Thomas Bender at July 01, 2025 01:48 PM (XV/Pl) ____ There will be several fewer companies around in 5 years. Jag is toast. So is Lotus. Aston Martin holds on only because of various sugar daddies willing to dump millions into the brand. Their current daddy also owns the Aston F1 team. Ditto McLaren. Alfa and Maserati are also hanging on by threads. But the Italian car industry is weird and incestuous, and often the Italian government steps in with huge subsidies to bail them out. If you thought the last two very bad weeks at the Supreme Court for the imperial judiciary, as envisioned by the district judges, was going to give them pause, you'd be wrong:
Another Imperial Judge, this one in Rhode Island (because that's the locus of wisdom and understanding of the Constitution) has said that the Secretary of HHS does not have the authority to cut even 7.5% of the staff. I kind of miss the days of the shithead reviewer.
Like when David Lean was crestfallen at the critical drubbing of Ryan's Daughter, so he invited all of the NY based critics to a round table. They just shit on him for a couple of hours and he didn't make a movie for 14 years after that. I mean...they shouldn't have done that. It was mean. I don't really like Ryan's Daughter, but I wouldn't have been so impolite to the dude who made Lawrence of Arabia. But...critics thinking too much of themselves and feeling adversarial to creators is healthier than them thinking too much of themselves and being slaves to the whims of studios. Strip Star Wars of its often striking images and its highfalutin scientific jargon, and you get a story, characters, and dialogue of overwhelming banality, without even a 'future' cast to them: Human beings, anthropoids, or robots, you could probably find them all, more or less like that, in downtown Los Angeles today. Should have gone the Chucky route instead of Terminator. Horror fans don't want a bait and switch. If they want action, they want action. If they want horror, they want horror. Posted by: Harry Paratestes at July 01, 2025 01:16 PM Sales Impact: Claims that the campaign directly caused a sales plummet are inconclusive. Jaguar's sales have been declining for years, well before the November 2024 campaign. For instance, sales dropped from 81,570 units a decade ago to 13,528 in the year to April 2024, despite a 39% annual uptick. In the first half of fiscal 2025, Jaguar sales fell over 40% to roughly 14,000 cars, representing just 8% of JLR's total volumes. These figures predate the ad campaign, indicating broader challenges like production issues, a shift to electric vehicles, and a shrinking model lineup. The campaign's impact on sales cannot be isolated as the sole cause, as no direct data links the backlash to a specific sales drop post-November 2024 Grok full answer: https://bit.ly/3I6xqff Posted by: Clyde Shelton at July 01, 2025 02:15 PM (P5BPp) 382

The new management completely destroyed North America operations by pushing out 50%+ of local engineers and management and replaced them with cheap labor "engineers" in Mexico, India (where average IQ is 76) and people from India living in Canada. Charlotte, NC has the worst civil engineers and city planners in America.
You apparently haven't been to Dallas. The retards here decided to merge two MAJOR highways using single lane ramps, while wasting a huge amount of space/time/concrete/money on a bunch of under/never used HOV lanes and ramps. Un-freaking-believable... Posted by: Angzarr the Cromulent at July 01, 2025 02:27 PM (y2f7I) 406
The Paolo, he knows nothing about this, how you say, short.

Back in the early 90's, the Wall Street Journal started to wonder if American clothing brand Tommy Hilfiger was trying to commit corporate suicide by taking on social justice efforts that seemed to border on insanity.

HOV lanes seem nice.
The portion of the Pennsylvania Turnpike around Philadelphia don't have HOV lanes, but they do have the left-most lanes designated not for "truck, buses or trailers" but it seems the police never actually enforce it. Posted by: SMOD at July 01, 2025 03:23 PM (RHGPo) 410
This seems promising for the 25th century ...
In a groundbreaking achievement, researchers at Oxford University have successfully demonstrated quantum teleportation between quantum computers, a feat that was previously confined to theoretical discussions and early-stage experiments. Posted by: SMOD at July 01, 2025 03:24 PM (RHGPo) 411

I saw that add, and my first thought was tampons.

I saw that add, and my first thought was what flavor of ice cream would you call that?

I saw that add, and my first thought was what is that thing around the middle of one of the asexual people? It looks like a pool float.

Seriously, did no one in the broad room see that ad and say "what the fuckity fuck?"

One thing missing from this is that I think Jaguar isn't currently building cars.
They've stopped for 2 years in order to really focus on being unprofitable and retooling a new factory or some bullshit. So I think these are last years cars being sold. As an old JAAAAaaaggg fan, who has owned a MkII since I took the money from my first job and bought it from a dodgy Dutchman in an old warehouse without telling my parents, it breaks my heart to see what people who really don't care about the marque have done. They should stop their nonsense and just put out the C-x75 that they inexplicably never built and maybe a more affordable E-type recreation. That's what customers actually want.
