First World Problems...

firstworld2025.jpg

That doesn't look like a problem! On the contrary, it is a delicious and wonderful thing, courtesy of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and a curious blind Benedictine monk.*

But...that is the extent of our Independence Day celebrations, since we are currently 3,650 miles from the greatest country in human history. That's a first for me, and I don't like it.

Seriously. I love Independence Day, because it reminds me every year exactly how lucky we all are, being the beneficiaries of that marvelous confluence of countless events that built the United States of America, none more so than the absolutely stupendous Declaration Of Independence.

56 men, mostly in their 30s and 40s (average age of 44!) signed that document. All of them knew that they were declaring open rebellion against one of the greatest powers on earth. If they lost, they would hang. But they did it anyway!

And against all odds they knocked the snot out of Great Britain, and took the greatest place on earth away from that empire. Little did King George and parliament know what they had just lost.

Luckily for them we are a forgiving people. 141 years later we bailed them out of a catastrophe in Europe, and then we did it again 25 years after that!

We have huge issues in America, and in many ways we have lost our way. But looking at the stunning developments over the past three election cycles makes me far more sanguine about our future prospects as a great country.

Yes, even the many catastrophes have shown us who the enemies of the Republic are, and that is a tremendous advantage. The battle is joined!

We are Americans, so we will win!

* Not really. Champagne wasn't invented by anyone...it evolved over centuries, but existed before Dom Perignon.

26 While the US did get aide from France, and a bit less so from Netherlands and Spain it is interesting to contrast our independence from Britain with the conflict of Russia and Ukraine.

Like the US at the time with Britain, Ukraine is culturally Russia. But whereas our revolution was about taking the next step towards freedom which the mother country could not, the Uke-Russian conflict is about which despot will rule the Russian-aligned provinces in Ukraine and whether Lil Z gets to hold onto power in the western parts. And that's why the Ukes will lose.

As a side note, France's help for the American rebels ended up costing them greatly. The money spent depleted their treasury and the success of the American patriots provided an example to the French Jacobins who unfortunately didn't learn the actual important parts of our revolution.

One thing that has become crystal clear in all of this, the Democrats aren't soft on illegal immigration.

The are part of the same organization as the coyotes and what we generally call organized crime. This is their business. She was then swept away. And yelled back again don’t let go. She was just rescued 1 hour ago and found out all her campers were rescued hanging on to the clothes line

101 If I can believe the report ... the old dude running that camp drowned trying to save campers.

Now look - I trust nothing. I would have NEVER sent my kids to a camp. I never sent them to travel ball. I trust nothing and nobody.

But if that's how that old man went out ? That's a good death. That's noble.

102 My FWP is that I have to get security cameras. I outlasted teenaged vandals, drug-addicted neighbors, and unemployed schemers who lived in my neighborhood. But wouldn't you know it? As soon as decent people move in, thieves decide they like the neighborhood, too.

While I was out of town last weekend, used my backyard to access my neighbor's and almost got his golf cart.

103 FWP: I'm the only one in my house who will toss or donate unneeded stuff. I found my spouse's ugly jacket from college, that he has not seen or worn for XX years. I figured I'd let him reminisce before donating it, and the man wanted to keep it. Got the kid to take a picture and moved on to getting it out of my house. If you haven't worn or seen it in X years, you didn't care about it and we don't need it in this townhouse. Did I mention townhouse? So no garage and no extra storage? And 6 people? Yes, we don't keep what we don't need. Diplomas and pics are for reminiscing, not jackets from XX years ago...

I was sick last summer, so didn't do my annual purge where I take an area of the house and go to town. And I've been sick a few years, so I don't do as much. But, man, when I do it, it needs it.

112 My FWP with solution:

For 25 years I have been unable to locate two of the rear property markers on our mountain lot. The front edge corners are marked by T-posts, above ground so I had assumed the rear ones were. I knew the general location from the property plat map but could only find one of the three. Finally this year I combined two technologies. First I pinpointed the GPS coordinates from county GIS map on a Google Earth satellite image, noting several land features (two trees and a gully and gauged approx distance and azimuth. Then I used my metal detector on that target zone and sure enough, instead of a T-post I located the two markers, each was a piece of rebar driven in to ground level or below, so not visible to the naked eye.

140 Back in April, May and June we experienced several waves of severe weather... tornados and associated thunderstorms with their downpours. The tornados were especially bad for a couple towns in middle/eastern Kentucky and killed a number along with devastating damage.

People were quick to blame "budget cuts" instituted by Trump and DOGE as the reason people died and damage was done. The disconnect with reality here is off the hook.

Every social media site, YouTube, cable and OTA TV was blaring warnings hours ahead of time. For several hours we got alerts on or phones about every 30 minutes or less.

And to the point, the National Weather Service, in each area of responsibility was in charge of dealing with the budget changes and decided to let go personnel based on their own criteria. If any were let go at all. And how much you want to bet some of those offices released employees based on the political damage they thought would be inflicted on Trump?

With a large enough caliber or shotgun then the general area is good enough. Front, back, or side.

160 Bridge looks about 50ft above the river at the beginning.
At the end of the clip water is flooding the middle of the bridge.

Shit not allowed ... still ... in the NorthEast regions. Because - frankly - they don't like the idea of anyone being able to gut shot a Mafia guy and thus being left alone.

As a society - they like the idea that the Mafia is aligned with them. But they hate the idea of the Klan.

162 Several armed and body armor clad individuals gathered at an ICE facility in Texas late at night. They shot the responding police officer in the neck.

You'd like to think that's cartels. And probably is. But a non-zero chance it's "politically motivated" folks from a variety of different generations.
----
Our folks in the NorthEast used to say "well, that's just the Mafia". And folks in the South used to assume "well, that's just the Dixie Clan".

Things are getting out of control.

Highly doubt it's cartels.
Last thing they want is Trump sending a bunch of SOF down there with full logistiics tail support.

And that would be a problem. We don't need SOF in these situations. We need militias. Fully empowered militias.

We are in this situation, in no small part, because LEOs have made sure militias didn't violate their pensions. This is not a problem for LEOs to fix.

Standing up indigent militia groups is a primary mission of the Green Beanies.

I doubt you'll see the Green Beanies training insurgents around San Fran and San Diego. You know ... where you're allowed to wear Mexico tees all day long, but American Flag stuff isn't even allowed in school.

Why did I read the comments?

And honestly, I was watching it, I felt like screaming "GET OUT OF THERE!" to the person filming it.

You should GTFO a bridge before the water starts hitting the *underside*. Notice all the debris that started accumulating on the upstream side...

This morning I joined Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem via phone from Alaska to pray for families gathered in a church in Kerrville, Texas, to await word about their missing children and loved ones. I read Scripture to them and prayed for them, and Secretary @KristiNoem prayed for them as well. We need to continue to surround these devastated families and communities in prayer. Also pray for the hundreds involved in search and rescue efforts with more rain predicted.

We have dispatched @BGEA Rapid Response Team chaplains to be there to pray with and minister to the hurting. We are also deploying a @SamaritansPurse Disaster Relief Unit and teams to help begin clean up efforts as soon as possible

I took these photos in Kerrville, TX on May 20, 2025. I thought these were kinda strange (north to south). At 4:00 am (same day) I saw lines of clouds a little thicker from east to west. I don’t know what to think. Maybe this will help.
