Anker has a wonderful talent for conveying context and emotion is his portraits. In this case the old man (grandfather, teacher?) watching as a new generation learns from him. The smaller child gazing at the sister, perhaps wondering if they will ever be able to play like that. The quiet confidence of the girl as she demonstrates what she has learned. The expressions are real but subtle in a way that makes the viewer pay attention. I like the way the dark background makes the figures and instrument almost pop off the canvas. I don't know what the title means but I'm not sure it matters. The scene is complete in itself without context.
CBD has used several paintings by Anker and they are all delightful. His still life paintings are wonderful. Sadly, I can't find any books of his art. Posted by: JTB at July 03, 2025 09:54 AM (yTvNw) 70

Willowed from the EMT:
The chlorine content of CFCs is what was blamed for the Ozone hole. Notice there is a sodium layer in the atmosphere. The sodium layer comes from the disassociation of salt (sodium – chloride) from the oceans – which of course leaves Chlorine. You can easily smell the salt in the water vapor near the ocean. This is a much larger natural source of chlorine than CFCs could ever be. Isn’t it interesting that the Freon ban occurred just as the patent on Freon expired? Yahoo News: Gasoline prices hovered at their lowest level since 2021 heading into the July Fourth holiday. On Thursday, the national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline stood at $3.16 per gallon, according to AAA data. This marks a $0.35 drop compared to the same day last year. — Guys, I’m not an expert economist. But I think I may see a pattern. Trump made gas cheap prior to 2021. The Exiles, 1868. Found the same painting entitled, Song of the Homeland, 1874, by Albert Anker.
Another of his paintings, The Pile Dweller III, 1884, was a later version. "The first version of this painting was exhibited by Anker at the 1874 Paris Salon under the title 'L'attente.' It was so successful that Anker was constantly approached for further versions." Christies dot com The featured art is a beautifully detailed, realistic painting. (IDK how one accomplishes that when children are featured. A lot of sketching before painting?) He had his daughter as the model in several of his works. His body of work was large and included numerous oil paintings, watercolors, drawings, and decorated plates. Would consider hanging in rotational art. Thanks. We were investigating a robbery at the First National Bank of Toontown. Back in those days, me and Teddy liked working Toontown, thought it was a lot of laughs. Anyway, this guy got away with a zillion simoleons. We trailed him to a little dive down on Yukster Street. We went in. Only he got the drop on us, literally. Dropped a piano on us from fifteen stories. Broke my arm, Teddy never made it. I never did find out who that guy was. I have heard it posited that passage of the bill - good, bad or something in between - means that Congress can no longer hold Trump hostage over legislation. He is now free to do what he wants in other areas, which some would interpret as being a fascist, I guess.
--- This needs to be pointed out more: This bill returns us to regular order. No more continuing resolutions every 6 months to a year. Congress--especially Democrats--love CRs. Because, with massive media air support, they are able to hold the Republicans hostage and get everything they want; it's an "emergency." Now, a regular order budget will be marked up and presented in September. With the GOP now having the votes to pass it. And--this is huge--the next budget fight is: September 2026--just before the midterms. Where Dem demands for more taxes and spending will be popular .... Here's an analysis of why Del Monte is going Ch. 11.
Declining Consumer Demand: Del Monte has experienced a decrease in demand for its canned fruit and vegetable products, leading to decreased sales. Increased Costs: The company faced increased costs related to storing and promoting surplus inventory, exacerbated by the decline in demand. High Debt: Del Monte has a substantial debt burden, particularly since being acquired by Del Monte Pacific Limited (DMPL), and rising interest rates have made this debt more expensive. Competition: The company has faced increased competition from private label brands and shifts in consumer preferences towards fresh and healthier alternatives. In short, I think the problem is that now you can get fresh fruit and vegetables year round, so nobody buys canned. Posted by: Archimedes at July 03, 2025 10:55 AM (Riz8t) 255
