The top layers were stinking and anerobic, so they are now re-fluffled and insulated from the top so I should be getting some heating in a day or too. I found a garter snake when I was shoveling, but no mice this time. Posted by: Kindltot at October 12, 2026 05:33 PM (rbvCR) 35

Which, sucked for them but ultimately led to the greatest country in the history of mankind.
I have a tough time feeling that badly for the native American tribesman. Life as a woman was brutally bad for them, but even the men lived a subsistence lifestyle in stone age technology and almost constantly at war. Other than the Pacific coast tribes who lived in comparative ease would have nice big parties where they ate captives. Being introduced to medicine, clothing, buildings, farming, commerce, and technology was a huge upgrade. Well worth abandoning my "rich cultural heritage" of beating rocks together and starving all winter in a hide tent. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at October 12, 2026 05:41 PM (nIKjK) 57

Posted by: Thomas Bender at October 12, 2026 05:32 PM (XV/Pl) --- Nixon deciding to restore the treaty system was probably his second worst idea (EPA being the worst). Instead of assimilating, retaining their heritage but finding opportunity, it convinced them to stay on the res, get drunk, and nurse grudges while indulging in super-corrupt petty politics. it also created the fiction that where they happened to be in 1878 or whenever was their "ancestral lands," when most of them had only been there for a few decades. Speaking of that Starlink launch, I heard something interesting the other night. All Starlink satellites have an optical star tracker system onboard for navigation purposes, to track its attitude and all that. But they can also be used to see other satellites, and SpaceX is using that with the swarms of their satellites to better map out all the other satellites and junk in orbit. And apparently to better precision that Space Force's radar tracking... Then it hit me, I imagine Elon has some "agreements" with the military and there may be some other things Starlinks are doing that we don't know about, and hopefully our enemies, Chicoms primarily, don't know about. But, plenty of others too. Almost all a part non-speaking part in some TV show or commercial. Some were still clinging to hope based on that one tiny shot ten years later. In the "Chernobyl" miniseries on HBO Max, there's a Soviet soldier standing guard at the door of the (kitchen?) room where the Soviet scientist who spilled the beans about how flawed their RBMK reactors were. You briefly see his face as he opens its door, then he disappears behind ductwork and only his lower torso is visible. One can imagine the actor excitedly proclaiming to all and sundry, "Yeah! 86 There's a great book about the Comanches called Empire of the Summer Moon, but that's not important right now. In the book, the author describes the Comanche (and most other tribes) as "low barbarians". I think it's an academic term that meant no written language, stone age.

And, listening to some podcasts about that, I learned of something new being proposed to the next 6g iterations of cell towers. It's called ISAC, integrating sensing and communication. First, they're increasing the ability to detect the precise location of cell phones by an individual tower. The tower can determine you precise position in space relative to it. This has the benefit of allowing it to focus the signal it's sending to phone, reducing interference to neighboring devices. Result is more bandwidth, less congestion. ISAC will take that to the next level. Cell towers, coupled with AI to process the enormous of amount of data required, to act as a type of radar (lidar like really), to track the position of movements of any objects in range, not just cell phones that are transmitting. The Panopticon is getting even more scary. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at October 12, 2026 06:01 PM (w6EFb) 115

That's the genius of the 4 rule safety system, the only way to hurt someone with an ND is to violate TWO rules. Posted by: IllTemperedCur at October 12, 2026 06:22 PM (y9nCu) 166
154 Voice Actors for Palestine
- Last night 60 Minutes had a segment about how the horrible Jews are mistreating the "Palestinians" in the West Bank. I switched it off as soon as I realized what it was. Posted by: Anonosaurus Wrecks Trying to get out ahead of a documentary about Oct 7, where the true face of those "palestinians" is revealed. Read about the doc on the inter webs (probably X). It is pretty much the video's the "palestinians" themselves shot of there own butchery and evil. Posted by: Puddleglum, cheer up for the worst is yet to come at October 12, 2026 06:23 PM (sAmhv) 167
Maybe if native Indians would have been just made citizens straight away it would have turned out differently
Posted by: Skip at October 12, 2026 06:19 PM (Ia/+0) Maybe, but I doubt it. For example, just look at our muslim immigrants. Do they adopt the American way? No, they do not. They stick with their 3rd world ways and death cult religion. Posted by: naturalfake at October 12, 2026 06:23 PM (YSUhf) 168
Most anime fans hate these US voice actors for the crummy job they do.
I suspect Weft Cut Loop is right about AI replacing them very soon Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at October 12, 2026 06:25 PM (nIKjK) 169
There's a guy I follow on X, Mike "Wild Horse" Kobe, who's Comanche and a Vet, and he celebrates Columbus Day, not Indigenous People's Day.
He posted something y'all might or might not be interested in: https://tinyurl.com/tx5s43an It's interesting how per capita, Native Americans join the military in larger numbers than other groups. There's a lot of pride at both being an American, serving this country, and being part of whatever tribe he or she is from. Posted by: SMH at God's mercy at October 12, 2026 06:27 PM (dkM11) 170
"low barbarians". I think it's an academic term that meant no written language, stone age.
True, but one of the cultural artifacts "we" applied to decide whether a tribe was "civilized" was the ownership of slaves. Sometimes it helps to get a reminder of how much shit this "we" can get you into. For most of "us," the difference between low barbarians and our homeland culture was a couple of hundred years at most, not millennia. And that includes your two-year trade school degree in Applied Programming Technology. You are not the crown of creation. Posted by: Way, Way Downriver at October 12, 2026 06:27 PM (zdLoL) 171
