And I finally disappear

76 haven(n.)
late Old English hæfen "haven, port," from Old Norse höfn "haven, harbor" or directly from Proto-Germanic *hafno- (source also of Danish havn, Middle Low German havene, German Hafen), perhaps from PIE root *kap- "to grasp" (source of have) on notion of place that "holds" ships. But it might rather be related to Old Norse haf, Old English hæf "sea" (see haff).

121 Stamford Harbor
Louis Bouché
1932

The closest place I have been to this painting is along the Duwamish south of Seattle. It is a rough place of tugs, scrap yards, stacked containers, warehouses, oil soaked soil, and barb wired topped fences. Stamford has a similar vibe and is in direct contrast to idealized elegance found in the earlier French masterworks; this is a purely American subject - the everyday and overlooked. The bones of image are dictated by the receding waterway and the use of complimentary blues and yellow hues. This is a solid landscape done with a solid understanding of the subject.

Rating: Double Plus Hanger.

146 Watched an excellent briefing this morning in the WH press room by Pete Hegseth and JCS Gen. Cain on Operation Midnight Hammer. Hegseth excoriated the media on the leak/s to CNN and then Cain went through a presentation of the Operation along with a video. Gen. Cain exclaimed how proud he is of all military members that took part in this op and the special intel people who had studied Furdow and other sites in Iran for over 15 years and had analyzed every bit of it.

They took questions from the press - some actually good ones and then the usual idiots had to rear their heads. One woman, forgot who she was from, asked Hegseth about him congratulating the "boys" who flew the bomber missions and why not the female B-2 pilots. I thought Hegseth's head was going to explode along with my own. He reminded her that all crew members were hailed and yes, that included female bomber pilots. This civilian dumbass from her indoctrination university thinks this is what is important after listening to this briefing shown around the world - that affects the entire world. A few weeks later, the minister invites the American politician to a party at his home. The American politician was astounded by the minister’s mansion when he arrived. It appeared to be a royal mansion.
“Where did you get the money to buy it?” he asks the minister.
The minister takes him outside and points in a direction and says, “You see that bridge over there?”
The American politician replies, “What bridge?”
“Exactly,” replies the Indian minister.

I don't really know any rabidly angry far lefties . Im sure the guy up the road always votes for Democrats, but I think if he were that deranged he wouldn't invite me and the other people from our little community he either knows or suspects to be Republicans to his yearly picnic which he's been having for 20 years. I don't always attend because it's on a Sunday afternoon but always enjoyed when I did go

But it's good to know that there are people out there like that.

220 Tangentially, there was an article written recently by a columnist who would fit in nicely with DU.

She talked about how lonely she was these days.

This came to my attention because it was contrasted with a column she wrote 4 years ago where she declared that anyone non-vaxxed was cut out of her life.

I enjoyed the contrast. It made me chuckle.

Yea, saw that. Although I'm sure she's just a miserable, toxic woman who would be lonely no matter what. AWFLs are empty vassals who are desperate for attention and affirmance. They can't get that in the real world so they turn to the leftwing cult.

227 My next door neighbors are 1000% left wing. Older retired empty nest couple. The stereotypical boomer leftist. For all I know they’re on DU.

But we get along fine. On a personal level they’re cool. We’re not best friends or anything but we chat when we’re both outside. My wife and the wife next door talk about gardening all the time. When my kids were smaller, they’d bake cookies for the neighbors for Christmas.

I think that’s the case with the vast majority of people on opposite ends of the political spectrum. We hate each other as groups but one on one? We’re just regular people.
