A Case of the Mondays Cafe

Konigstein Castle, a cliffside fortress near Dresden

Ultimate Pig-Racing Championship.

"Sky puppy" eating strawberries.

Puppy and cat cuddle.

It slowly dawned on this dog that bears are out of control.

Baby and husky debate the Iran strike. I'm glad they could debate this contentious topic in a dignified and respectful manner.

And he sticks the landing.

Snaking the toilet.

Gross -- a queen termite is pretty big. Probably the inspiration for the alien queen.

Dog enjoys sunset at the beach.

Young hyena checks out your ride.

Lemur demands pets.

Cow comes to the defense of his owner.

Little kid attempts acrobatics.

Bear and her cubs enjoy a suburban pool.

A maturon, also known as a bearcat, breaks into a house but winds up becoming a pet.

There was this gal at work that brought a heater in but she didn't understand which way to point it and had it backwards facing my chair instead of hers. It was under a shared table and I didn't even see it but like around late morning I was sweating, thought I was running a fever or something. I finally noticed it when I got up and realized it was only hot at my chair. She was always a bit kooky.

And more interesting in terms of the so-called ceasefire announced, apparently Iran-backed Iraqi outfit hits US facility (radars) near Baghdad (Camp Victory, which would be the airport, or Taji, not far, but AFAIK long since not used by US).

FYI - the MOP's body is said to be Eglin Steel.

Eglin steel (ES-1) is a high-strength, high-performance, low-alloy, low-cost steel, developed for a new generation of bunker buster type bombs, e.g. the GBU-57 and improved version of the GBU-28 bomb known as EGBU-28. It was developed in collaboration between the US Air Force and the Ellwood National Forge Company.

The development of Eglin steel was commissioned to find a low-cost replacement for strong and tough but expensive superalloy steels such as AF-1410, Aermet-100, HY-180, and HP9-4-20/30. A high-performance casing material is required so the weapon survives the high impact speeds required for deep penetration. The material has a wide range of other applications, from missile parts and tank bodies to machine parts.

At room temperature, ES-1's yield (tensile strength before deformation) is 193,900 psi (1,337 MPa)!

253 I see the Iranian situation now as analogous to that of Germany immediately before the WWI armistice. The regime is living on borrowed time.

Given what resulted from WWI, however, the results in Iran could be equally problematic.

But the Revolutionary Guard needs to be exterminated.

Hi Bulg! Thanks for asking!

The cat Snowflake got me up by sitting on my face today. No one has commented. That can't be that common but I'm a dog person.

The house situation looks like it will be resolved by Monday with the house under my name. I so hope so. Potential homelessness for 5+ months wear on you.

My brother and I are now done. I'm fine with that.

Bulg, any word from your sister?

Posted by: Tom Servo at June 23, 2025 09:25 PM (e2MJJ)

I'm starting to look at this mess as a whole bunch of good enough options no matter what.

1) The regime collapses on its own and the people form a decent modern republic in its wake
2) The regime hangs on but is so brutally repressive the people rise against it and kill them Romania style
3) The regime hangs on but is so cowed and craven that they no longer pose a threat and no longer can be as repressive against their people as they would like
4) The regime lashes out and Operation Bye Bye Fucknuts commences with no illusions about the regime continuing to exist.

Any one of those could work. It's starting to take some real creativity to come up with scenarios that look bad. The only plausible bad outcome I can really think of is the US and Israel running out of ordinance and having to actually invade, against a general population who is willing to stand by their mullahs in spite of their shittiness. A lot of dumb shit would have to happen for that to be the outcome, though, and so far that kind of "dumb shit" doesn't seem to be on the menu anymore under new management.

I doubt this, simply because Israel has said they’ve already hit all of their high priority targets, and now they’re just bombing IRGC bases and other targets of opportunity. So they’re fine with standing down, especially knowing that they can pick right back up if Iran gets stupid and breaks the peace.

Now, they've backed off that claim and now they are saying Trump's unConstitutional effort are incidental to the outcome. Didn't matter at all. And, this is all very complex and details are not done and the State Department experts really haven't solved the issue yet. Plus, the only reason not to impeach Trump is because no one wants to see JD Vance as President.

Makes me barf.

Persian-flavored "Zionism".

Bring back the Persian Diaspora. Welcome Iranian families from abroad back to their homeland. Let them bring their skills and their sanity back to the land their parents fled, and build back their life as Persians in Persia.

283 >>A commenter in the previous thread suggested the cease fire was a condition Trump insisted upon with Israel in exchange for bombing the Iranian nuke sites. Trump gets to be the peace maker.

I think it might be worth considering that for the first time in a very long time we have a very good businessman who would rather do deals than just about anything and he knows how win them.

Deals are about leverage and Trump has all of it right now, pretty much around the world not just in Iran. That's what the tariffs were about. That's what the trip to the UAE, Saudi and Qatar was about and that's what the strikes on Iran were about.

All of the experts have been wrong about all of them so far. Trump might be loud and egotisical but he's also pretty damn smart and good at deal making and he's dealing with people who by and large aren't. A lot of people have told me over the years that government isn't business. True. But business isn't government either.

Trump knows how to make deals that benefit us. America First. I haven't felt this good about where we are in geopolitics in a long time. Maybe ever.

289 Really the first thing Trump's done as a politician that is at all "sneaky" was the run up to this bombing op. Which, hey, if you're not going to be sneaky about warfare, then you're just not trying.

Otherwise it's just "say what you're gonna do, do it, then tell them all what you just did", and still no one can ever seem to believe it, even now.

I've spent my career building businesses and I look at government and ask all the time "What the fuck are you doing?".

The B2 is 35 years old. We've had an overwhelming military advantage over everyone for decades and our leaders on both sides of the aisle have either surrendered or squandered our advantage. Trump knows how to use power and it's great to see.

I trust him to make deals to our advantage. He's not perfect, he will make mistakes. But he is going to push our interests way past where they have been in decades.
