For Iran, it's pretty damned close to a surrender. They agree to stop shooting missiles at Israel; they have no more Air Force left, not much of a Navy left, most of their missiles are either used up or destroyed, most of their weapons production facilities have been destroyed, and oh yeah, they lost their nuke program.
On the other side, Israel is stronger than ever. Iran's insistence on shooting at civilian targets meant that Israel's military capabilities never got touched.

One of the problems with maintaining "states within a state" is that the external entities resent the elite ones.
Thus: The Romanian Army sided with the people in 1989 and were able to overwhelm the Securitate.
I wonder if the Iranian regular forces will make a similar decision. It's got to be tough to be a regular Iranian military officer, conscious of a glorious military tradition being squandered by this numb-nut zealous who always lose.

No, but their records of dissidents are probably there, and I imagine their wiretap terminations, radio direction finding equipment etc. So even if they manage to stay in power, they will have a tougher time rolling up the dissident networks, since they'll have to basically start from scratch.
On the flip side, if the dissidents take over it makes it more difficult for them to search out the moles and informers.... the ones that weren't flaunting their power that is.

I think it was in the previous Trump admin. Iran retaliated the same way - lobbed a few missiles at a US base, secretly informed the US ahead of time, no casualties. Just a face-saving stunt.
To predict what happens in the Straight of Hormuz, just look at what happened when the Houtis, sponsored by Iran, tried to stop sea lanes through the Red Sea (and therefore the Suez Canal).
All the talk of WWIII, or another "forever war" has been nonsense from the start. A Globalist wet dream.

The history up until now has certainly been discouraging.
But this was the end of a 40+ year war, not the beginning of one.
I've been optimistic about this outcome for some time, and now I'm going to go one further - with Iran removed as chief troublemaker, and Iraq neutralized, and Syria turned into nothing, and Hezbollah tamed - the entire middle east is going to get more peaceful than we have seen in our lifetimes. Even Gaza - with Hamas losing all of their lifelines, that situation will be over quite soon now. Don't know how it will shake out, but Hamas won't be running it.

did y'all see where Paxton was acquitted of the original Colin County lawsuit drummed up by 'Texans For Lawsuit Reform' back in 2015? I missed it but I've kept up with it as best I could during the fiasco from the previous legislative session.
The cause that Colin County dropped the case was because the three Houston shyster/lawyer's original bill for an estimated $30k to try the cause ballooned to over $500k and Colin County refused to pay it and dropped it. Those three runts are the ones that tried to keep it alive and even tried to move it the Houston/Harris County.

Ukes have a similar situation, a war they can't win and the Russians will just grind them town by town as far as they want to go. Russia is less willing to flatten everything since they intend to use it themselves or in a client buffer state between them and 'free Ukraine' wherever that is.
We have puffed Ukraine up that the government thinks it can steal a few more billions but the result is clear.

As it happens I did visit Israel on the coast near Jaffa, fairly close to Gaza. The missiles were hitting north Israel from Lebanon at that time. Was doing work on mobile listening devices for field work for the IDF

I don't disagree with your assessment, but it's not really the same situation in the sense I mean. Ukraine can certainly keep shooting at the Russians, even if their cause is misguided and hopeless.
But Iran can only really attack Israel with land-based missiles, and their ability to do that is getting very limited. Israel, in contrast, can launch air attacks with impunity, and their military supplies of weapons, etc, seem to be fairly safe.

Shooting back doesn't give you a victory. If Iran armed their people with crossbows and shot in the air it similarly would not change the situation. Iran can resist inland forever, and Israel and the US can not make them stop. But there will be more destruction and death only on their side until it ends.
