Three Iranian Planes Fly to Oman as Israel Reportedly Begins Attacking the Ayatollah's Bunkers

Iran just threatened "a surprise that will be remembered for centuries." Then they released a video strongly hinting they were about to attack the US or Israel with a nuke.

Trump himself does not seem interested in a deal. First he said to reporters, "I'm in no mood to negotiate." Then, later, he posted on Truth Social:

I really do not know why people who identify as on the right are on such a jihad to save the Ayatollah. They have completely reversed their previous support for military intervention. They haven't just adjusted it. They've fully embraced the Code Pink/Blame America First position, without ever even bother to explain why they've made this dramatic complete reversal of all their past beliefs. It's like this group just radicalized each other on X, all based on emotion and groupthink, so no one is able to say why this change in fundamental beliefs occurred. They just suddenly adopt this extremist left-wing position and then act like you're the weird one for not having joined them in this inexplicable journey to the Blame America First side.

This guy offers a counter-explanation. Though both claims are made, as Jake Tapper's snarky chyrons would say, WITHOUT EVIDENCE.

He claims that three planes is excessive for just a negotiating team, and suspects the planes are carrying the Ayatollah, his son and successor, and other family members and government officials. He premises this on the claim that Israel has been attacking Khameini's hidey-hole bunkers and the Ayatollah knows it's just a matter of time before they hit the one he's in.

I don't know. I listen to this guy sometimes but I think it's mostly just because his politics seem similar to my own and because he's got that "international British RP" accent. The accent where you came from a different country but were educated in Oxford so you picked up on the tony RP accent.

It's very reassuring. Christiane Amanpour hypnotized the nation into believing her bullshit with that accent.

I dont have twitter and cant speak for anyone else but I can tell you why I changed my position.

I came to age during 911 and the wars that followed. I remember cheering for the bombing of Iraq while watching the attacks live on TV in high school. I had several classmates and friends join the military and ship off. A few died. I even considered joining at one point but ended up changing my mind.

I truly bought in to everything.

Over time I realized nothing I was told about the reasons for the iraq war was true. I read books like the devils chessboard. I intensely read everything I could get my hands on about the shadow government and our various wars. I felt like an absolute idiot for buying the bullshit. I was very disillusioned with politics and didnt vote for McCain or Romney (or anyone. I didnt vote at all.) although I continued commenting here.

Then Trump came along and said the wars in the Middle East were stupid and a horrible idea. That endless war only enriched the deep state. I voted for him.

So to see the same shit continuing to happen is disheartening to say the least.

I'm not going to presume on divining their reasoning. I shall accept them at their word that it's just because they've decided that they're adamantly opposed to US involvement in any war. I shall accept that they are unaware that Iran declared war on the US in 1979 and have never rescinded that. I shall accept that they believe eternal muslim terrorism is just how the universe works. I shall accept everything they've said without wondering if there might be another motive.

I do note that some (many) of them were all-in on US involvement in Ukraine. Despite Russia not being a declared enemy. Despite Ukraine not being a declared ally. Despite zero US interest involved.

No doubt there's some esoteric aspect that has just escaped me.

I watch a lot of old British TV shows--currently on the Bulman trilogy. The funny thing is that you can find a talk show episode with Michael Cain and Sean Connery on as guests (think it was Johnny Carson IIRC). They mentioned breaking down the doors in movies and the BBC in normalizing other accents than the posh Oxbridge newsreader that previously held sway in infotainment. So, in the 70's and since, there is a distinct shift in renormalizing the various subregional accents in UK English.

Dick Van Dyke recently recounted the horrors of his Mary Poppins Cockney accent and blamed it on his Irish language coach who simply did not know it.

I prefer Welsh or Geordie accents myself. Musical.

If he was threatening to get into some long sustained conflict, I would agree. But he's talking about ending it once and for all - and once the Iranian Regime falls, the entire middle east calms down for the next 20 or 30 years. They've been financing all of it.

And this war truly is just about over. There's good cause to believe that Iran does not have a single operational warplane left, and the IDF has now been blowing up every attack helicopter they can spot. All of their anti air installations are gone, and anytime they turn on a radar unit, it's vaporized in about 60 seconds. They got nothing left to fight with.

The missile attacks that Iran is launching are coming just a couple at a time now, with no coordination, which implies that all internal military communication has now broken down.

Its just a long, long rule in power politics, ace. Russian pilots flew in Korea early, possibly in Viet Nam, and with Egypt in the tense years after the 6 Days war and the 70s. The Air Force liked it when our stuff beat their stuff, and even the Egyptian pilots liked that the snobby Russians took some lumps.

Same thing in Ukraine - for years both sides ignored that large portions of the common border were ignored and not defended. Then Ukraine started using them for raids and both the official Pentagon and Russian diplomats were pissed at them for it. Even now, only maybe 2/3 of the border is manned.

Fuck that. Nationbuilding requires dealing with the people there. We got away with it in Germany, mostly, because similar cultures. We got away with it in Japan, mostly, because (a) they tended to adopt things that obviously worked already and (b) they were way too traumatized to start shit.

We did NOT get away with it in places like Iraq because the culture was alien and the people there tend to be bloody minded shitheads. Iran would be the same, but worse.

And they collapsed completely. Both Isreal and to a lesser extent the US had a few field days where they could go in and incinerate planes and military facilities with no one even saying boo to them about it.

This is not a significant date, the real problems started when the money into the "fund" was smaller than the money out.

Historically, SSI has been a cash cow for DC -- they get lots of payroll tax dollars, pay a little out, and spend most of it (while claiming it is in a fund which is just an IOU to itself.)

The problem hit when SSI became a cash sink instead of a source. We are long past that date as we currently use other tax dollars to pay SSI obligations. Calling it a "fund" is meandingless.
