This would also make God's imprecation to Adam about the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil "the day that ye eat of it ye shall surely die" to be completely meaningless. Might as well have said "ye shall surely frannlebrabblenibbitz." Sounds vaguely unpleasant but Adam had never seen death, never before heard of death, or have any concept of death. Or frannlebrabblenibbitz.

The Indiana Fever have officially signed Gertrud Schlaghammer, a 6'8" former Olympic Greco Roman wrestling silver medalist and ex-German special forces operative best known for her role in Operation Quiet Fist that eradicated an invasive species of bears from the Alps without weapons.

Schlaghammer, 39, has not played organized basketball since middle school.

Known in international combat sports circles as "Esel-Halsschlag" (“Donkey throat puncher”, Schlaghammer isn't expected to get many minutes until Clark is hard fouled. Then the plan is for her to not leave the court until she's ejected.

“She doesn’t speak much English,” said Caitlin Clark, while removing an ice pack from her eye. “But when we first met she told me ‘No one touch you now tiny sexy bird lady.’ I cried.”

Schlaghammer will make her debut Thursday night against the Valkyries, assuming their players show up.

241 Late to the thread but errands won't run themselves.

Blake is an interesting painter especially in this highly stylized mode. It is stark and expressive. The color on the bodies makes me think of clay though that might be coincidence. Not something I would hang but I enjoy studying it.

I do wonder if Blake in this style was an influence of Rockwell Kent. The angular aspects remind me of Kent's illustrations.

242 I went through a Blakean phase in college, reading his poetry, scrutinizing his art, and the memory of that fixation has stayed with me over the years. In his more grandiose moments, Blake considered himself a divinely inspired prophet of God. I can't speak to that. I can say that Blake strived to achieve elevation in his work, a kind of spiritual transcendence, and sometimes succeeded. I read his children's poetry to my five-year-old granddaughter, and she loves it.

No. Just frustrated that so many incredibly smart people who are working to implement AGI are warning left and right that this is incredibly dangerous and no one seems to be able to pump the brakes. It's going to have to come from the government. We are in a nuclear race with AI and what we've seen so far shows that AI absolutely will be nefarious and deceptive.

The other side is that major companies left and right are in a race to fire as many people as AI agents can replace and that number will be in the tens of millions. What will an unemployment rate of 20 or 30% look like? There are no benefits available to help people pay bills and all those 'tech guys and gals' who get laid off are gonna be looking at blue collar labor jobs along with everyone else. If they still exist. A lot of people fighting for spots on the life raft.

All of this is happening right now. Microsoft, Apple, Amazon and others have warned of massive layoffs coming 'soon'. Microsoft just a few days ago.

288 One of the problems in technical fields is that management up and down, even if they had some bit of technical background before they got lobotomized, only see your technical work as a checkmark for what they want to do anyway. Your input is not desired at all.

If they see any sentience emanating from their engineer's noggins they'll sequester them all into a broom closet.

So AI is ideal for them, incompetent checkmarks. Normally I'd say replacing technically competent people with linearized arrays of goal seeking gain factors is stupid and no one would be insane enough to do it. But I've been around too long and have old engineer cynicism.

I am skeptical here. Other knowledge professions like newsreaders, teachers, coders, politicians, there is essentially no downside to being wrong, for which AI seems to have no problems presenting wrong info with absolute confidence.

There have already been cases where attorneys have been disciplined for using AI without human intervention.

And that is not mentioning AIs utter lack in ability to *create* novel, persuasive argument.

Well tread legal avenues like DUI, etc., sure there is some threat at the low end.

Just wait until they figure out how to liquid cool them without leaks. Then the real end of the world will get here and damn it I'm taking the next day off.

Funded by billionaires and corporations. But it will be poverty levels that cannot afford to own assets. Hence the urgency of corporations to buy up housing to rent.

And people that cannot afford to buy stuff will eventually kill off businesses left and right. No one can buy the stuff anymore. So taxes and revenue will drop.

It's a wild scenario.

314 This is why I think AI is bullshit. Just a more powerful computer. From Dostoyevsky's Notes from Underground:

You see, gentlemen, reason is an excellent thing, there’s no disputing that, but reason is nothing but reason and
satisfies only the rational side of man’s nature, while will is a manifestation of the whole life, that is, of the whole human life including reason and all the impulses. And although our life, in this manifestation of it, is often worthless, yet it is life and not simply extracting square roots. Here I, for instance, quite naturally want to
live, in order to satisfy all my capacities for life, and not simply my capacity for reasoning, that is, not simply one twentieth of my capacity for life. What does reason know? Reason only knows what it has succeeded in learning (some things, perhaps, it will never learn; this is a poor comfort, but why not say so frankly?) and human nature acts as a whole, with everything that is in it, consciously or
unconsciously, and, even if it goes wrong, it lives.

315 289 We are in a nuclear race with AI and what we've seen so far shows that AI absolutely will be nefarious and deceptive.
-
It's being designed that way,
--------------------------------------

That's because the designers are creeps.
Humans are flawed - even the designers of highest character will insert a flaw.
Did you read about the one system that perceived the designers were going to shut it down? It created false emails on one of the men being unfaithful to his wife. Then attempted to blackmail him with the false evidence it created. Yeah, AI's where it's at.
