Everyone in Tampa is dead. I'm Gonna Live Forever! Anti-Aging Cocktail Extends Mouse Lifespan by About 30 PercentScientists in Europe have tested an anti-aging drug cocktail in mice and found that it extended the animals' lifespans by around 30 percent. The mice stayed healthier for longer too, with less chronic inflammation and delayed cancer onset. The two drugs are rapamycin and trametinib, which are both used to treat different types of cancer. Rapamycin is also often used to prevent organ rejection, and has shown promise in extending lifespans in animal tests. Trametinib, meanwhile, has been shown to extend the lifespan of fruit flies, but whether that worked in larger animals remained to be seen. So for a new study, a research team led by scientists from the Max Planck Institute in Germany investigated how both drugs, on their own and together, could extend lifespan in mice.Huh. Maybe soon it will be normal to live to be over 100. The article says that there are quality-of-life benefits too. Fail! 31 Hysterical Fails From Last Week ![]() Crime Spree Florida Man Convicted For Pretending To Be Flight Attendant To Take 120 Free Flights Some people pay for their flights with money. Some use travel card reward points. Others use frequent-flyer miles. Apparently, though, if you use "pretending to be a flight attendant" to get free flights, that's a crime? You wouldn't think that would be the case, but a federal jury just convicted Florida's Tiron Alexander for doing exactly that, finding him guilty on charges of wire fraud and entering into a secure area of an airport by false pretenses. According to the Department of Justice, Alexander took 34 free flights on one airline but booked more than 120 flights before he was caught. So, how did he do it? He used airline web portals meant for pilots and flight attendants and then provided false "employer, date of hire, and badge number information." He also varied which airlines he claimed to work for, using about 30 different badge numbers across seven airlines. He also posed as a flight attendant on three other airlines. Perhaps most surprisingly, he was able to keep his scheme going for six years, beginning in 2018 and continuing through 2024, when he was ultimately caught. That means he flew for free, taking more than 100 flights, for six years, and no one noticed until just last year.Pretty slick. In This Day in History: Israel whacks Iran, most severely. The mullahs and IRGS are likely on the edge of doom, as they have no defense against Israel, no proxies left, and potentially face Trumpus Magnus, instead Kammie the Kow. Sen (appointed, not elected, then re-elected) Alex Padilla learns that the appropriate, civilized, behavior in Press Conferences also applies to him, as it applies to all civilized people. An Air India 787 went down, seconds after take-off, with only one survivor. At least one commenter, on the local news, mentions that the video shows the 787's landing gear was still down (should have been up) and flaps were up (should still have been down to generate sufficient lift). Were the engines still running? Unconnectedly(?), very recently the Indians whacked a whole bunch of militants in Pakistan for killing a bunch of Indian civilians, and the Pakistanis ... If the cause(s) of the crash are linked to sabotage by militants, then an implicit link exists to Pakistan. I do not think a nuclear response by India will happen immediately, but, by comparison the Gazans may decide they aren't suffering THAT much ... and a nuclear exchange is now close. Key to all the riots is whether or not the local authorities order the police to stop them or not. Even back in 2020 they were never a mass popularity thing so police would be overwhelmed by numbers. A relatively few activists and opportunistic local looters who disappear if they see police taking action. So most likely in the middle of cities run by the opposition, unlikely anywhere else.

It's practically impossible to predict the demise of dictatorial regimes (unless removed by external force, like Hitler or Saddam). At first glance (all I've had time for) it certainly looks like Israel is hitting the grey checked area representing the overlap of two Venn circles - national command authorities, and political leadership.
If the world is lucky, this will finally spell the end of one modern history's worst most pernicious regimes. As for war duration, this was obviously always going to be a campaign, not a "strike". Iran's a big place, and for 4 decades the regime has looted the country to build capabilities utterly unrelated to national development or interest. Spent the day binge watching a Korean crime show on Netflix. "Mercy for None." Think of John Wick meets The Godfather and you'd be pretty close.
There was almost no gunfire, the fight scenes were plentiful and relatively realistic with no wire work, and there was a respectable quantity of gore splattered about. When it was over I realised there were almost no female characters in it, with zero 95 lb. girlbosses tossing around 200 lb. stuntmen. I liked it. AHL has 3 on 3 for 5 minutes of overtime, followed by a shoot-out. Of course that 5 minutes is by far the best hockey of the game. That is, not just dump-and-chase garbage, grab-ass holding, cheap checks within 3 feet of the boards - contemporary hockey. And shoot-outs are easily the most dramatic thing in sports.

The regime must now await severe punishment. The powerful hand of the Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic will not let them go unpunished, God willing. In the enemy’s attacks, a number of commanders and scientists were martyred. Their successors and colleagues will immediately carry on their duties, God willing. Enriching weapons-grade material isn't child's play. Intel said they'd been doing implosion testing, not so surprising since modern tech/CAD/CAM/computing has made that design far less difficult. And they were significantly hampered by Israeli hits on personnel, and sabotage.
In a small meeting at the MinDef, with Rabin, someone in the group asked how he would explain Israel's military success over the years. In his great raspy voice and heavy accent, with the humorless expression, he answered "first, you must consider our enemies". This was 1986. Posted by: rhomboid at June 12, 2025 11:50 PM (1m82a) 422

Iran strike status update: 1. Israel launched large-scale airstrikes on Iran tonight, targeting nuclear facilities and military infrastructure, including Natanz nuclear site. Attacks also hit military bases and neighborhoods housing senior commanders, with eyewitnesses reporting massive explosions and flames across Tehran. 2. Israeli defense source suggested high likelihood that Iran’s military chiefs a& top nuclear scientists were killed in the initial strikes. Iran’s state media acknowledged the death of IRGC commander Hossein Salami and possibly Armed Forces Chief Maj. Gen. Mohammad Bagheri. The opening assault neutralized key Iranian officials within minutes. Posted by: andycanuck at June 12, 2025 11:53 PM (2yoRf) 432

3. Israel’s Home Front abruptly shifted to wartime operations during the night; authorities closed Israel’s airspace until further notice, halting all flights to and from Ben Gurion International Airport near Tel Aviv. The airport was evacuated, with El Al Airlines suspending all operations. Israel was removing all airplanes from Ben Gurion, sending them out of the country to safeguard aviation assets. 4. IDF instructed Israelis to stay near bomb shelters and prepare for extended stays due to potential ongoing attacks from Iran. These steps reflect Israel's heightened state of alert, driven by intelligence estimates anticipating Iran’s potential response with up to thousands of ballistic missiles and drones, and possibly heavy barrages from Lebanon and Yemen. The vast majority of Iranians you will run across in the States are from families that left after the Shah fell, or Christians. You can have whatever opinion you want about the goodness of the Pahlavis, or the legitimacy of how they got power, or who they were truly allied with but their goal was to bring Iran more in line with the West. And of course the fleeing Christians aren't going to agree with the mullah culture.

Exclusive: @BretBaier spoke to President Trump by phone tonight following start of airstrikes. Here’s what he said: President Trump was aware of the strikes beforehand. There were no surprises, but the US was NOT involved militarily and hopes Iran will return to the negotiating table. President Trump: “Iran cannot have a nuclear bomb and we are hoping to get back to the negotiating table. We will see. There are several people in leadership that will not be coming back.” (A reference to some of the Iranian leaders who were killed tonight by Israel.) Pres Trump has spoken to PM Netanyahu several times in recent days. The Trump Administration reached out to at least one key Middle Eastern ally to acknowledge that the strike was going to happen but that the US was not involved in the strikes and the goal is still to get Iran back to the negotiating table. The President is looking to see if there is retaliation, CENTCOM is on high alert, The US will defend itself and Israel if Iran retaliates. He said I hope they get back to the negotiating table. The US has replenished Iron Dome missiles in recent weeks, according to administration officials.
US officials confirm a number of top Iranian leaders are dead after the strikes. Again, the US military was not involved in any way in these strikes, but clearly the administration knew about the Israeli plans in advance and was not surprised. That’s why we’ve scoured the internet to see if anyone has done any actual research into how often Europeans poop. First, some justice for the Italians. A 2004 study found that “the average defecatory frequency was once per day,” a far cry from the 55 dumps we were promised. The Mossad: Satirical and Awesome
@TheMossadIL 3h We have launched Operation "Am K’Lavi" ("With the Might of a Lion") to target Iran’s nuclear program and the regime’s long-range missile capabilities. Dozens of military targets across various regions in Iran were struck as part of the opening salvo. These included military command centers, commanders, military facilities, headquarters, and nuclear sites. The sirens that sounded across Israel were not due to missile fire, but rather to prepare the public for the possibility of incoming attacks. We are preparing for an operation expected to last several days at minimum, including anticipated heavy barrages from the Iranians. Full coordination is taking place with the U.S. military. Our objective is not regime change in Iran, but rather to neutralize military infrastructure and nuclear sites. The opening strike in Iran was highly surprising in both scope and the locations targeted — places the Iranians did not expect. By the end of the operation, there will be no nuclear threat. Well, not really for free since if I am understanding this correctly he acted as a flight attendant performing all the duties involved right? This is one of those really odd cases where he found a way to use the side benefit of the job to his favor. Real attendants do that as well but presumably he was taking on way fewer flights then a real attendant just to get where he wanted. So that opens up the question could airlines drop most of their standard payments and just take people in this scenario who want, essentially, a free flight and nothing more? Anshel Pfeffer אנשיל פפר @AnshelPfeffer 1h 4 hours into this war quick conclusions are premature. Israel and Iran have been preparing for decades for this moment and we’ll find out in the next few days who prepared better. The 2 most important preparations by Israel were last year. Taking out Hizbullah missile arsenal & > destroying Iran’s missile defense network in September/October. This left Iran without its main deterrent (Hizbullah) against an Israeli strike and vulnerable to waves of fighter-jets. We’re about to see if and how Iran dealt with those major blows. Israel used the same pattern > of the strikes on Hizbullah, prioritizing decapitation and missile bases. This will hamper an Iranian retaliation but impossible to say to what degree. The main questions at this point are what capabilities Iran has right now and will Hizbullah use whatever missiles it still has. Posted by: andycanuck at June 13, 2025 01:14 AM (2yoRf) 611

I was able to get to many Middle Eastern countries! My fellow travelers chickened out of Yemen, and we didn't go to Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait... it would be easier to say the ones we did get to, which was Israel, Jordan, UAE, Oman ( which I fell in love with) and S'audi Arabia. We saw the Babylonian site, they were excited about funding to restore the Ishtar Gate. It was unreal to think of the history you were surrounded by. It was difficult to imagine Nebuchadnezzar eating grass there, because it was so hot you couldn't imagine grass standing a chance! If Ur is the site of the birthplace of Abraham, yes we saw it! All through Iraq, I realized how ignorant I am. I did know it was where Babylon was, but didn't knowbabout Sumerians, Chaldeans, etc. We did make it up to the Kurdish region, but we had to enter from Turkey! ( I think?) By far the prettiest part of Iraq, and so different. I have stayed in touch with a family we met there, and hope to have them come stay with us and take them all around America. That will have to wait til mama passes, though. Can't do anything now. Planning a trip to Bhutan, but getting visas is hard Posted by: Tammy al-Thor at June 13, 2025 01:49 AM (Vvh2V) 635

A little OT diversion, I'm watching this Netflix documentary on the Oceangate Titan disaster and ho-lee-fuk. It's Theranos all over again. Ignoring blaring danger signs, firing conscientious employees, Big Dreamer CEO who knew little about the science he was attempting, deliberately skirting regulations, bullying, "join my religion," moving unqualified employees into positions way beyond their skill level as qualified ones were expunged or quit, lawsuits to keep whistleblowers quiet, whistleblowers getting financially ruined, yikes if true. Could be an okay movie. There's a young blonde intern, a charismatic sociopathic CEO, nerds, a scuba diver/influencer, an okay-looking accountant (she's not much but heck, cast Sidney Sweeney anyway), a trip to the Bahamas, and the whole mystique of the Titanic as a backdrop. Tammy that's great. Been to all of those and agree about Oman. Different. Probably a lot more developed than when I visited. Fun fact: almost all Iraqi archeologists are (at least used to be) Christians. When I visited the Babylon site, it was all Samis and Georges (from the north). And yes Kurdistan is easily the most beautiful part. Though the palm groves and canals down near Basra are something, as is the desert in Muthanna (towards Kuwait), with its bedouin (with Hi-Luxes, and satellite TV of course).

For electrical infrastructure attacks in Iran, I'm sure if they do it will either be soft kill (disruptions using shorts and the like) or targeted kills (control rooms). Just as we did in Iraq. Hydro would be I think incompatible with Israeli long-term objectives (notwithstanding the silly lines about not seeking regime change).

"Dirty" bombs are pretty much a nothingburger, in most plausible scenarios. Nothing remotely like a serious civil nuke mishap (Chernobyl). The material is not fallout, it's just radioactive material that has been physically dispersed.
I wouldn't be rushing to volunteer to do an on-site damage assessment at Natanz tomorrow, ahemm, but seems unlikely much nuclear material has been dispersed. More likely entombed and mixed with debris. But shockingly I am not intimately familar with the Natanz facility design, the Iranian storage practices, or the ordnance used today. So. Oh, another significant element in the Oceangate story: a few employees tried to bring a federal case but the OSHA investigator had such a huge backlog (or he worked so slowly, who knows) that the plaintiffs had to drop their case because they were bleeding lawyers' fees. Perfectly legit and urgent case that could have saved lives but OSHA made them take a number and sit down for possibly several years. Posted by: Blonde Morticia at June 13, 2025 02:25 AM (YDQ9Q) 654

Everyone here knows that Iran is a problem in the first place because of the CIA. So I have no problem with us being part of the solution.
