Trump Announces Muslim Travel Ban 2.0, Putting 19 Third-World Shitholes and Failed States Under Visa Restrictions

The announcement is well-timed, given that we just had a third-world savage attempt to re-create Auschwitz on the streets of Boulder.

Biden judges are already writing their injunctions, just waiting for a George-Soros-funded group to file for one.

President Donald Trump on Wednesday resurrected a hallmark policy of his first term, announcing that citizens of 12 countries would be banned from visiting the United States and those from seven others would face restrictions.
The ban takes effect Monday at 12:01 a.m., a cushion that may avoid the chaos that unfolded at airports nationwide when a similar measure took effect with virtually no notice in 2017. Trump, who signaled plans for a new ban upon taking office in January, appears to be on firmer ground this time after the Supreme Court sided with him.
Some, but not all, 12 countries also appeared on the list of banned countries in Trump's first term. The new ban includes Afghanistan, Myanmar, Chad, the Republic of Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Haiti, Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan and Yemen.
There will be heightened restrictions on visitors from Burundi, Cuba, Laos, Sierra Leone, Togo, Turkmenistan and Venezuela.
In a video released on social media, Trump tied the new ban to Sunday's terror attack in Boulder, Colorado, saying it underscored the dangers posed by some visitors who overstay visas. The suspect in the attack is from Egypt, a country that is not on Trump's restricted list. The Department of Homeland Security says he overstayed a tourist visa.
Trump said some countries had "deficient" screening and vetting or have historically refused to take back their own citizens. His findings rely extensively on an annual Homeland Security report of visa overstays of tourists, business visitors and students who arrive by air and sea, singling out countries with high percentages of remaining after their visas expired.
"We don't want them," Trump said.
The inclusion of Afghanistan angered some supporters who have worked to resettle its people. The ban makes exceptions for Afghans on Special Immigrant Visas, generally people who worked most closely with the U.S. government during the two-decade-long war there.
Afghanistan was also one of the largest sources of resettled refugees, with about 14,000 arrivals in a 12-month period through September 2024. Trump suspended refugee resettlement his first day in office.
"To include Afghanistan -- a nation whose people stood alongside American service members for 20 years -- is a moral disgrace. It spits in the face of our allies, our veterans, and every value we claim to uphold," said Shawn VanDiver, president and board chairman of #AfghanEvac.
Trump wrote that Afghanistan "lacks a competent or cooperative central authority for issuing passports or civil documents and it does not have appropriate screening and vetting measures." He also cited its visa overstay rates.

Below, a Somali refugee in Sweden defends robbery and murder and drug-dealing as the prerogative of asylum seekers who want to get "rich." In the second clip, her mother tells her she has to teach her children not to be drug-dealing gang members, given that they're "guests" in Sweden, but she denies this, saying that she's a Swede now and can do whatever she wants.

13 As other commenters on the internet have noted, the last travel ban was wrung through the courts by 2018, and the result was that a President can do this to any country so long as they can proffer some sort of reasoning. Doubtless that won't stop district judges doing nationwide injunctions (since SCOTUS refuses to curb those - I guess having to deal with them at odd times over night and on weekends is better?), but there's no legal ground to stand on, even by the judiciaries current lethargic standards.

I recall thinking at that moment, Trump faced a dilemma in his constitutional duty. His duty obviously would be to repudiate the court, which was out of bounds on all counts. To follow the courts' demands mean in effect failing to do his duty. Following his duty of course would collide with the ossified post-constitutional modus vivendi wherein the executive goes along with a judiciary that is ridiculously outside its lane.

Anyway, if my memory serves that he won this precise issue the first time, how could there be a court challenge? I crack myself up! See Heller, and most of the current TRO cases. Judiciary not even following their own made-up rules.

You're incorrect. Tesla would be losing money without subsidies and mandates. They sold $692 million in carbon credits alone in Q4 2024.

If you go to the Tesla website, they still offer the $7500 Federal tax credit on their vehicles. I think only the Y and the 3, but I'm too lazy to check. But that's the vast majority of what they sell these days.

The only reason I got solar panels was due to the Fed subsidies at the time: a tax exemption equal to the cost. Reduced my taxes that year by around $14K. Oh, and Kali had their CSI (Cali Solar Initiative) that also send me a $K or two. Made the break-even point at 10 years, which I passed a couple of years ago.

However - though this dates back some years - a story from, of all places, Eritrea, makes a similar point.

Was travelling with two friends, we were in the northern town of Keren, the most Muslim part of the country (camel market in the dry riverbed, that was interesting). Somehow friend's wife forgot her small bag or purse at the restaurant where we had lunch.

When we got back to our hotel later, the desk guy said he had her forgotten bag. Restaurant figured foreigners would be staying in only one place, so brought it by. Contents undisturbed, of course.

Whole country had that level/feel of high trust. Probably had something to do with being foreigners - you were treated like a guest, not a tourist. Anyway.

I read they quit selling "canties" in vending machines some years back. They did have them when I was stationed there in the late 80s. You could buy a surprising amount of stuff that you would not expect to see in vending machines in Japan.
