I begged my father to tell me things and he wouldn't (couldn't; also probably didn't think it appropriate for a young girl.) What's wild is that when I was a student in France, we went to Normandy. An older couple came up to me and asked if I was American. Said yes, and they showed me a picture and asked if I knew the man with them. It was my dad. They said I looked like him, so that's why they asked. They were starving and he gave them his rations while the troops that made it through the landing reorganized for the push to Paris.
