Due to its suitable properties and the low cost, DEHP is widely used as a plasticizer in manufacturing of articles made of PVC.[9] Plastics may contain 1% to 40% of DEHP. It is also used as a hydraulic fluid and as a dielectric fluid in capacitors. DEHP also finds use as a solvent in glowsticks.

Hadrian, exactly. And for Saipan, the amphibious force traveled across a vast ocean expanse to conduct an opposed landing (vs. the narrow English channel that people swim - though usually not without several attempts thanks to the strong coastal currents on the French side).
Some elements of Operation Torch in North Africa went directly from Virginia to the landing areas, but overall it was nothing like Saipan, where the Marshall Islands were the last land they saw before their objective. Posted by: rhomboid at June 06, 2025 08:38 PM (1m82a) 161

Michelle Obama is releasing a book looking back at her favorite fashion and style moments over the year with 200 photos of her while she was first, um, lady. Only $50. Your coffee table needs this book. Posted by: fd ========== You wouldn't think a person could turn an overpriced coffee table fashion photo album into a bitch-fest, but... >>Michelle Obama is giving fans a glimpse at "The Look," her new book coming out in the fall. In the book, reflects about how her appearance during her time in the White House was "constantly being dissected" and aims to "reclaim more of that story" for herself. Clearly, she aims to reclaim more of that money for herself, because she could do all this with one YouTube video where she "breaks down her iconic looks," as they say. There are tons of actresses and models doing it. But to the extent it makes Hillary seethe, I'm good with it. Posted by: Blonde Morticia at June 06, 2025 08:50 PM (y8VAE) 198

had done a couple deployments including Beirut in 83... and his Brother came by one afternoon, unexpectedly, while I was home on leave.
Mom was gone, and over many beers... I got the stories. Pretty sure I'm the only one who heard them... Mom didn't even know some of them. Posted by: Romeo13 at June 06, 2025 08:43 PM (mP0Kj) God bless you for your service, especially in Beirut. Same for your father as well. I begged my father to tell me things and he wouldn't (couldn't; also probably didn't think it appropriate for a young girl.) What's wild is that when I was a student in France, we went to Normandy. An older couple came up to me and asked if I was American. Said yes, and they showed me a picture and asked if I knew the man with them. It was my dad. They said I looked like him, so that's why they asked. They were starving and he gave them his rations while the troops that made it through the landing reorganized for the push to Paris. Didn't get much attention but the other day when the German chancellor was in The Most Uncomfortable Seat in the World (where Trump does the side/side press availabilities with foreign leaders in the Oval), Trump had another classic.
Merz noted that the anniversary of D-Day was during his visit, adding some (fairly lame) fluff about the US again coming to Europe to end war (Uke/Russki). At one point Trump says "Yeah, that wasn't a pleasant day for you" (D-Day). Merz sort of awkwardly agreed, then things continued. Really pretty dumb, since Merz wasn't born and of course is the Nth leader of a state that has reviled and rejected the war-time German legacy for generations. But still hilarious in a Trumpian way. Hoping we get 3 more solid years of these comical moments, it's one of the best parts of the Re-Entrumpenation. Posted by: rhomboid at June 06, 2025 08:58 PM (1m82a) 223

The Salvadoran mook had a final order of removal on file for years, along with a (flawed) withholding order. As polynikes noted, he didn't disappear, his whereabouts were always known as well as the reason for his movement. By "complying" with a lawless injunction in this case, the administration signals that for now it's continuing with its strategy that avoids repudiating baseless court orders. I get that, even though I think it's bad for the country. But I am guessing that they're calculating there will be instruction in all this.
A typical low-profile illegal fights totally lawful, long-authorized removal. Process results in a closer look, which leads to evidence of extensive serious criminal activity. Which results in return/indictment, and possibly long term in the slammer. Followed by deportation. "Don't be like this guy" is the lesson. If your only violation is immigration status, and you have skeletons, smart move is to vamoose. Don't fight it. Posted by: rhomboid at June 06, 2025 09:11 PM (1m82a) 252

See, that's the thing. I wasn't even supposed to be the one getting them. My older sister was getting braces and I was just told to get in the car cause mom wasn't going to leave me at home alone. I was just there to dunk on her. Orthodonist saw me coming a mile away. Soon as we walked into the office he saw me and said "Why don't you come on in too.". I was a victim of circumstances. Apparently somebody wasn't playing the long game today, and locked up some ICE officers during a raid on his business in LA. Oops. This person is now going learn a lot about federal law and probably federal correctional facilities.
Meanwhile, a former DHS employee in Tijuana was home-invaded and his family assaulted. Of course lots of unknowns here that might make it more than just a hit on a former immigration agent. But methinks it's past time to do some tone-setting on this matter. Action against the idiot Jeffries in the House by Speaker Johnson, incitement charges against city dumbasses in Boston and elsewhere, and draconian treatment (from hickory shampoo to prosecution) for the street cretins physically interfering with operations. A lot of unbelievable Antifa/etc violence against federal facilities was left unpunished during Trump 1. Can't believe they're going to let this continue to escalate. The voice in the D-Day video is British, and we are following the British landings, obviously. Interestingly, although Cherbourg is mentioned as a destination, it is not emphasized. And there is no mention of the Mulberry: the artificial harbors we set up to facilitate transport. Instead, there is an emphasis on making landing strips for planes. Overall, a cheerio, positive overview of the landing, with some details omitted, just the thing for keeping spirits up back home.
