Some Kittens Just Want to Watch the World Burn Cafe

elephantinconveniencestore.jpg
Hungry elephant wanders into convenience store to steal snacks

Mount Etna erupts, sending tourists scrambling.

ICYMI: Birthday party for a dog.

Chicken Run, in real life.

He lost his dog. But he found his dog. And another dog. And, a goat.

Pet owners: "I don't understand why I wake up tired every morning!"

Bird knows his colors.

Aw: boy calms frightened puppy.

The buddy system.

Cat: I think I'll destroy your $250 automatic tea pot now.

Neighborhood watchdog.

This sea turtle is an absolute unit.

An apex predator showing off his survival skills.

A bear, who is out of control, gets put in check by some pigs who recognize the Bear Menace.

48 I was sleeping in bed once, on my side when I felt a strange presence in the room, so I opened my eyes. In the dark I made out, less than an inch in front of my face, my black lab just standing there looking at me. He was a big boy so him just regularly standing put his head at the same level as mine resting on my pillow. It was that moment that he chose to sneeze on me, lick his mouth, then step up on the bed to lay on my legs. "this is cool, right?"

There is no better choice, for the mentality that constantly tells you "best to just lie back and think of England".

50 Even with an 8 3/8" barreled Model 29, as enshrined by Dirty Harry his own self, and custom solid bullet loads, you're just going to irritate the elephant. With soft- or hollow-points, which you're likely loaded with in such an urban setting, the elephant will just be more irritated. It will be even more irritated if you jerk the trigger, which, given how irritated Weasel was on the Gun Thread last night, a goodly number of Gun Thread readers must be doing.

Absolutely correct.

It's kind of like one of those pictures with trick perspective: you know, do you see a vase or two faces in profile? If, in this case, you see that the elephant's ass is partially blocked by the display, you are normal and well-adjusted. If you see an elephant with an ass that looks like it was bitten off by a killer whale, then you obviously have psychopathic tendencies, and probably cheered when the hunter shot Bambi's mother. If you're in the latter category, get help.

They have GPS sensors in Wash/Oregon area and they show that strain built up gets bled out up there with tiny microquake slips as the area rotates against the rest of continental NA. They can see the GPS slide over a day or so rather than one snap.

273 I couldn’t help but think of River Tam, a completely different character from a completely different SF series.

Someone worked out that their ability to take off only worked if they lived in an environment that had constant 30 - 40 mph winds. But in a world where there may have been a constant water path along the equator with no continents to break up circulation, that may have been the case; at least in some areas. In that kind of environment they need to have just stretched out their wings and taken off like a kite.

Much hotter average temps then, too. All that hot air going from water to land to water to land probably kicked up some significant winds no doubt.

Didn't need him or that companion. The delightful and very cute, Carey Mulligan, did just fine carrying the episode.

289 Cats, when they like you, like you because you are providing a service to them. Maybe just keeping them warm or giving them a resting place they can fit into.

The instant they no longer need that service, they hate you and will kill you.

290 "Midnight" is a great Doctor Who episode, and while it was great, it made me realize why I no longer need Doctor Who. The beginning of the end for me, and nothing I've seen since persuades me otherwise.

291 Summer Glau is really cute.

River Tam was an interesting little brilliant crazy chick.
But at least she had a reason for being able to kick ass because she was made that way by the government, so the character was a lot more interesting and sympathetic than annoying.

292 When I worked ambulances in Oakland back in the early 80's one of my rotating partners showed up at the station one morning with this large pot wrapped in towels. She was born of parents from the Creole Nation of South Louisiana and her mama had sent her to work with "dinner" to feed the crew.

It was in fact "Gumbo" cooked by her mamma's hand the night before. And it had Okra...and it was beyond awesome.

The spiciness, the smooth texture with chunks of Andouille sausage which were Cajun if I remember right.

Still, a meal I still remember to this day.

That character worked so well because she would have a slight edge of "what the hell just happened" after a magnificent display of wrecking the bad guys' whole day. I don't remember any kind of ridiculous girl-boss gloating, just raw ass kicking followed by either mild disbelief or cold detached boredom as she got more used to it.

299 Wasn't the dramatic introduction of River having certain abilities that scene where they were all in a firefight, and River was cowering in fear, until everything started going south, at which point she picked up a pistol and went all RDR bullet time and took everyone out? I think that's the "What the hell just happened" scene I'm thinking of.

So much more dramatically and thematically satisfying than "out of the way puny mortals let me kill everyone with scripted ease because Vulva".
