Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition![]() The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to hear two high-profile challenges to state gun-control laws—one in Maryland banning semiautomatic rifles such as the AR-15, and another in Rhode Island prohibiting magazines that hold more than 10 rounds. Both denials came in a June 2 orders list that did not provide an explanation for the denials. However, three justices—Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, and Neil Gorsuch—dissented, indicating that they would have taken up the cases. In the Maryland case, sometimes referred to as an “assault weapons” ban, Justice Brett Kavanaugh concurred with the majority in its decision to deny review, but said the Supreme Court “should and presumably will” address the constitutionality of AR-15 bans within the next term or two. Kavanaugh, otherwise known as J. Wellington Wimpy, assures us that the court will...eventually...maybe...take up these cases in the future. Well! I am relieved that my 2nd Amendment rights are defended by such capable people! There is no rational reason why the court can't strike down these various unconstitutional state laws by simply referring to their own previous holding in Bruen. Only a deeply dedicated anti-gun zealot could claim that AR-15s aren't in common use, since it is the most popular rifle in America. Only a deeply dedicated anti-gun zealot could claim that 30 round magazines aren't in common use. Hell, that's what the AR-15 was designed for! And most of all, only a deeply dedicated anti-gun zealot could carefully ignore the clear link between the 2nd Amendment's protections and military weapons. Militias aren't groups of hunters on leisurely walks through the forest on deer hunts. The security of a free state is not dependent on access to shotguns for upland birds. The 2nd Amendment protects our right to arm ourselves with the military weapons of the day. Muskets and single-shot rifles in 1791, and the closest the horrid National Firearms Act of 1934 allows us today... the ubiquitous AR-15. In a country that respects its founding documents, that would be an M-4 (full-auto), but the idea that we must be restricted to 10 round magazines and something other than the AR-15 is simply not backed up by any intelligent reading of the Constitution. So...do we have six deeply dedicated anti-gun zealots on the United States Supreme Court? The evidence suggests that we do. 1. If somebody presents a gay marriage license from VA to an official in CA, the CA official is required to accept that document by the Constitution as valid. However the Constitution does not require that same official to accept a VA issued Concealed Carry License. Even though the Constitution says nothing about marriage, and does mention a right to bear arms. How does that work exactly? 2.The basis of the NFA was the taxation power in the main body of the Constitution, even though the Bill of Rights came after and modified the powers granted in the main body. Can the Taxation power be used to overrule 4th amendment rights also? As far as I can determine the legal answer to both my questions is "Shut your mouth, boy". A Romanian national pleaded guilty on Monday to charges related to his role in a “swatting” ring that targeted dozens of public officials, including a former US president. Going by the aliases “Plank,” “Jonah” and “Cypher,” 26-year-old Thomasz Szabo took part in a years-long conspiracy to place bogus 911 calls, claiming emergencies were taking place at the homes of top government officials, and make bomb threats against government buildings and houses of worship, according to Justice Department. Szabo and a co-conspirator, 21-year-old Serbian national Nemanja Radovanovic, allegedly targeted about 100 people, including members of Congress, governors, cabinet-level executive branch officials and state officials. From DU headline whining, it seems we may actually be winning a few cases at lower courts for a change!
Judge dismisses California's lawsuit over Trump tariffs, citing jurisdiction issue...concluding the case belongs in an out-of-state court that specializes in trade disputes. Oh...I misread the headlines. We're losing at lower courts too 😔 Judge grants preliminary injunction to protect collective bargaining agreement for TSA workers. Judge Pechman said the union has shown Noem’s directive to end the agreement “constitutes impermissible retaliation against it for its unwillingness to acquiesce to the Trump Administration’s assault on federal workers.” It likely violated due process and AFGE is likely to succeed in showing Noem’s decision was “arbitrary and capricious." Trump-appointed judge blocks Alien Enemies Act deportations in Los Angeles area...ruling that the government hasn't promised adequate due process. Holcomb's preliminary injunction applies to most migrants who are in custody in the Central District of California, which includes Los Angeles, Orange County and several bordering areas. But, illegal alien criminals are granted every possible, expansive interpretation of due process, with maximum deference to avoidance of any infringement. A "flu emergency" justifies taking away all your rights and delaying any legal redress for years (if not already summarily dismissed within days of filing). Didn't Biden's DHS maintain a listing of illegals - particularly those given work permits by DHS - seeking gun ownership?
I don't know the rules, but it seems that should have set off some additional interest in the Boulder CO antiSemite. Information suggests that the individual suspected of the antisemitic attack in Boulder, Colorado, Mohamed Soliman, entered the US with his wife and five children on a B-2 tourist visa in August 2022. He then applied for asylum a month later, in September 2022. Soliman's visa expired in February 2023, so he was in the country on an expired visa while an asylum claim was pending. In March 2023, he was granted a work permit (for a period of two years). Then he alleges he planned the attack a year into holding the two year work permit? By whom was he employed? In planning the attack, why would Soliman wait for his oldest daughter to graduate high school? Where did she attend school? Is she on a separate student visa program? Odd. There's more that went on before the attack. And, no, he's crazy and not responsible for his terrible attack on those defenseless people. The nice thing about magazines is you can carry as many as you like. I doubt this plays well with the gangbangers but in skilled hands it is a strategy that pays dividends. If you want to go full desperado just carry a revolver with additional drums full of ammo. It works as well. Sight alignment, sight picture and remember to slowly squeeze the trigger. Good Hunting.

You need to look harder. Plus how many people would resist force if applied? Again, covid is appropriate here because force was successfully applied there when necessary. Threats of job loss etc. And it worked. Posted by: ... at June 03, 2025 12:06 PM (Rsaxx) And it did work. But now people have the opportunity to review exactly what happened. Those aware enough realize the ruse that it all was. This in turn, one has to to hope, has hardened the resolve to never ever let that nonsense happen again. The Left would use the military at a minimum.
Posted by: ... at June 03, 2025 12:08 PM (Rsaxx) -- Maybe. But as I pointed out upthread, even a very minimal minority of gun owners who don't comply and are instead of the Cold Dead Hands school are a lot of people. The issue is that all of those gun owners will be unknown. Distributed. This will likely force .gov to use very draconian measures to root out that minority, which I'm not sure would be accepted by many people. By draconian I'm talking random searches, metal detectors everywhere, constant surveillance, etc. There's a big risk there of pissing off everyone while a hidden distributed "army" is performing guerrilla attacks. The Army had serious problems in Afghanistan, for example... Of course, all of this is theory. My opinion is it would take a seismic shift to incentivize that 5% or whatever to go Full Guerilla. Will the announcement of confiscations etc be that kind of a shift? Posted by: WitchDoktor at June 03, 2025 12:13 PM (oUlN5) 230

- Kavanaugh supports the Federal Government by ruling against it....even if the ruling is in favor of the Administrative State, and damn the Constitutional protective guarantees if the States violate them; - Barrett loves her some "You Go Girl!" solidarity; - Roberts whines "why can't we all just get along?" and I guess thinks that guns don't help that; - The Libs don't believe you have a Right to Life, that your life is at the let and permission of government. > How many people never complied with covid orders?
------- Zero Everyone complied. However there are degrees of "compliance." Nobody avoided complying in some manner, shape or form with one (or more) of the thousands of mandates that were on the public. Even minor, inconsequential things we were forced to endure was, compliance. It was a test. A successful one at that. Whether one thinks they were some sort of outlaw and defeated the feds by "not complying" is deluding themselves to the fact the covid mandates remained in effect and resulted in various, public and personal habitual changes to cope. I have a different read on this. I read Kav's opinion as signaling that the Court, if they took the case, would get only 4 out of 5 votes necessary to reverse the 4th circuit. Those four would be him, Gorsuch, Thomas, and Alito. So he punts for now.
Part of the issue is that the SC usually waits until there are several appeals court decisions on a particular issue before taking the issue up. That's basically Kav's point, or at least his cover story. I think it's clear from his opinion that he would reverse the 4th circuit. Posted by: Elric Blade at June 03, 2025 12:18 PM (iFTx/) 244

Under Biden, I saw him moving toward banking regulations that required tenant firearm reporting for loans on commercial property.
That was the purpose of the de-banking test balloon. And this Court would have blessed it if the Human Mattress had won. Then, having won that increment, they would move on to banning tenant gun ownership on commercial property. By staging a mass shooting at an apartment complex if they have to. They then would have moved on to FHA loans, after the Court blesses that "reasonable" restriction. Posted by: People's Hippo Voice at June 03, 2025 12:22 PM (uJ9KI) 251
