10 anyone wondering what "onions-based" is doing in that GenZ rant, it's 4chan. 4chan management was sick of "soy", "soy", "soy" being spammed everywhere so replaced that s word with "onions". Except for "soyboy" which became "basedboy".
They also swapped "tbh" with "desu", but that didn't bother me much desu.

19 Makran is, I think, Balochestan and is presently winning an independence war against China and Pakistan. China has decided that their Gwalur port isn't worth the squeeze and Pakistan owes China too much money.
As for not knowing fire, I call bullshit. Balochestan has all manner of mines with gold to this day (which is why China was meddling) so its people likely knew how to smelt that. More likely if it's hot all the time, drying the fish kills the germs and cooks it for you.

56 Generac generators (and I'm sure any other brand). Be aware that there is a battery under that cover. It seems obvious now, since it needs a source of power to kick in if the house power goes out.

But I sure didn't think of that until my mom said that her Generac generator didn't kick in when she lost power during a storm (when you need it most and that's why you have the freaking thing!).

I don't know much about it, so who knows, maybe there is a battery monitor and she didn't know it or didn't pay attention to it, or whatever.

72 Meanwhile, in Ukraine:
1. Today was the start of the "1000 for 1000" prisoner swap. Tellingly, the Ukrainians didn't have enough Russian POWs to swap, so they supplemented their batch with some civilians.
2. Showing they still have some fight left in them, the Ukrainians counter-attacked at a couple of locations and drove the Russians out of a couple of villages, at least until the Russians can counter-counter-attack.
3. The Russians showed pictures of a "sabotage van", complete with a drone launching rail in the cargo area, that they captured inside Russia. This explains the drone strikes that have been happening impossibly deep inside Russia.

Maybe. But one big difference, at least here, is foreign cash buyers. My friend sold her parents' house for $600K. To a Chinese family who could not speak English. All communication through the agents/attorneys. That is an issue we did not have 40 or more years ago.

CA is also an example of what not to do. While they froze assessment increases on owned property to 2%, new houses/sales were assessed at market rate. So the house one lived in was, say, valued at $300K. On the market it's now $1.1M, e.g.

On the negative side, kids now go out to eat too much, but that's a bit of a nitpick. But I think i's a lot of money that adds up pretty quick. Cooking at home is so blasé.

But...they aren't entirely wrong. I'm old enough to remember what America used to be, and it sure as shit isn't what it is now. And the USSA fucked everything up...things I didn't think even could be fucked up. No the USSR couldn't give normal people a decent place to live or well food on a regular basis.

But even in the abyss of Soviet Russia no one was running around telling the proles they needed to cut their balls off and put on a dress.

I am not too sure about that.

If you took ten recent college graduates with "studies" degrees and gave them any of the tools (short of matches) used to start a fire, I suspect that tribe would be eating raw food and sleeping cold.

When you get down to it, laid off = fired. Sure, different words but the effect is the same. IMAO, 'fired' was from when we had 'PERSONNEL' departments. 'Laid off' comes from Human Resources.

Um, if they didn't know how to use fire, how were they baking their bread?

95 Being "laid off" implies that there's some seasonal slowdown and that when things pick up, you'll go back to work. That hasn't been the case for 60 years and more. Whatever it's called today - laid off, separated, made redundant - your company will forget you existed five minutes after you leave.

My company had layoffs recently. And they let those us not laid off know it wasn't because the company was in financial trouble...but because they thought they could increase earnings this way.

Anyone that thinks of a company as anything more then an arrangement where you give them 40 hours of work (or whatever your exact deal is) and you get a paycheck is...foolish. It isn't a family. Treat you coworkers decently, but apply the same logic to the company they'd apply to you, no less certainly, but also no more.

It's absolutely not.

Technology has not set us free. It's enslaved us in many ways.

Paradise for kids was maybe the 60s and early 70s before we were slaves to technology. Kids played without play dates. We weren't slaves to screens, we entertained ourselves with outdoors and talked to each other face to face. We found a way to constantly entertain ourselves.

There wasn't the constant threat of child predators and there was always some adult watching over the neighborhood just in case.

We got on our bikes and had adventures without a care in the world other than being home before dinner.

We were the most free spirits in the world It was absolute paradise.

179 In very large corporations, at the Director and above level, there is absolutely a secession plan in place, and for the most part, they know who they're going to promote, so yes, it's fairly accurate to say that hard work is not necessarily a guarantee of promotion to a position you have your eye on. Not to say that person didn't work hard to get there, they undoubtedly are excellent workers, but there are often other factors involved, including temperament.

Its common in corporate culture to have completely unrealistic requirements coming down from higher management. So then middle/line managers who generally weren't "doers" that long ago have to somehow square what management wants with what their team can deliver.

There are a lot of responses to this, one very common one is to just pretend the upper management requests aren't ridiculous, plan them out as if they are reasonable, and then just pretend its a surprise when miracles don't happen and the schedule gets missed.

It's the Peter Principle.

If you're good at your job, you deserve to be promoted. Maybe as far as management.

If you're good at management, maybe a directorship, or a vice-presidency, someday.

But if you're NOT good at management, there you sit as a first-line manager until your pension kicks in.

Peter Principle: eventually an organization becomes incapable of doing anything because everyone is promoted to their level of incompetence. See: The Federal Government.

Correct on both counts.

Friend of mine, my age (not 29), when she took her current job decided it would be her last. She had been a manager/officer in another real estate company. When she took this job, she told them she didn't want any title/responsibility, just to be a worker bee. They were fine enough with that, and her experience, to hire her. But they kept pushing for her to accept a title. She kept telling them 'no'. Finally, they gave the supervisor title to an incompetent who begged for the promotion, one who thinks 'bosses' don't have to work, just tell everybody what to do and even the 'what to do' is usually wrong.

246 Gen Z is sadly correct for most young men in this country. One way out is to join a Bible-believing church that will shun you or your wife for not repenting of sin. Most of the problem is sin you won’t let go of, or rather sin that won’t let go of you. (It’s always the first way: it only seems like the second). Don’t insist on a young, slim, blue-eyed girlfriend, but think about a wife and children, while saving yourself for marriage, and, Lord knows, something might work out. At the very least, assuming you believe (are saved), you are going to Heaven, and that will last longer than any marriage, good or bad.

I also think when you get to certain positions, CEO, CFO, VP, Director, and the like, it's a small club. Those people change jobs at that level a lot, going from running a widget company to managing a company selling food. The headhunters know who's in the game at that level.

Once you get to that salary level, the hundreds of thousands to millions, you're in -- pretty much forever. Unless you are a complete and total incompetent disaster. Even then you still might get ahead, like that marketing woman from the Budd Lite/fake woman debacle, Shein-something. Gone from Bud Lite but she moved on up to another firm.

New pump on order from the 'zon. 22 dollars.

And I was able to effect a repair to my cordless reciprocating saw. Zero dollars, just bent the tips of the brush springs. Put a pruning blade in it, and lopped off a mess of overhanging limbs around the place.

When the old faggot finally starting dying from his AIDS, his camel banging inbreed countrymen obviously couldn't come up with anything to help him besides poultices made from desert flowers and so forth.

So, in '04, they transferred him to an Israeli hospital in Ramallah, which treated him until he was irretrievably ill, and then shuffled him off to a French hospital that specialized in AIDS patients like him, where he just died in hospice after awhile.

The fun part is that while the Israelis treated the old faggot as a diplomatic gesture, the Palistinians now claim the Jews poisoned him on the way to France.

At least in my experience it's not even so much that.

The closer you get to the top there are other factors that come in to play. No business operates in a vacuum, family and friend ownership, investors, potential mergers or acquisitions, government regulations, etc., all start to factor into play. And then decisions have to get made.

What would you do if given the choice to grab a golden ring if it required you to fuck over some of your employees? Would you take it if meant you and your family would prosper but some of the people who worked for you faithfully would get screwed?

It's not always a hypothetical. It happens pretty much every day. That's business.

Like watching a hawk snatching a little kitten out of your backyard.

I wish I was dead.

401 Fucking hell. Call the Pentagon. Enough with the bullshit. Pete Hegseth should know about this.

We have brought a lot of political pressure to bear, still waiting to see if it produces any fruit. The SNAFU's are with FEMA and State funding. There's plenty of money, but obtaining it is a different matter.

It's May 24th, and temp is now 48.6F outside. Record low for the 24th at GSP is 41F. Doubt it will make that, but it's going to drop a few more degrees before sunrise, I'm sure.

405 Mike, this sounds like a textbook case for DJT to fix. FEMA still has political malfeasance. The state needs to plead to the feds. Paging Senator Ted Budd.

411 Less than two hours ago, I said goodbye to one of the most generous, caring, and tortured souls I've ever known. I'm glad I could be there for him in the time of his biggest need and held his hand as he stopped breathing. Your suffering is over, my friend.
