But they do have lots of other stuff that Garrett would like.New Wave? Rock? Post-Punk? I don't know, and don't much care, since those labels mean very little to me. But I do know that their music evokes lots of fun memories, and when I hear a Cars song almost never skip it! Damned if I know much about them other than their hits, but this is an excellent song... Faces -- Ooh La La. Their pedigree is impressive, and Rod Stewart's voice is fun. One-Hit-Wonder Warning! Van Morrison -- Wild Night Nothing more to be said about Van Morrison. Great music. Yes, he is a political lunatic. While I like what he has said about Covid-19, he is also a bit of a Jew-hater (he fits in well with the Irish government and, sadly, lots of Irishmen), and exposes the sad truth about most artists: they are pretty much f*cking retards about everything else besides their art. Just shut up and sing/act/write! I am not a fan of Pearl Jam, and I think Eddie Vedder is the quintessential idiot celebrity who thinks his thoughts on topics other than the best guitar pick are of some value. But I like this song. I have no idea what it's about... it is barely intelligible, although the guitar work is nice. Eddie Vedder -- Rise Of course, I think this is the true Eddie Vedder, and a clear explanation of his thought processes. It's very late, so I will be unavailable to monitor this thread. I hear people bemoaning the lack of good new country music, but it hasn't died, just gone underground (as far as commercial radio is concerned).
Here's Corb Lund band performing "Roughest Neck Around": https://youtu.be/9yXzZTYjUl0 The lyrics really ring true. The video was filmed on a "demonstration" rig set up to commemorate the Leduc #1 discovery well. They hit a Devonian reef at 1900 feet in Feb. 1947. Those Devonian reefs flowed like crazy. I was really thinking about the YouTube video about the old guy who was drinking only PBR on lunch break. They could tell because of the cans in his pickup bed. The guys ask how much is he getting paid that he can only afford PBR. Foreman won’t say. Foreman does want to write him up because he was drinking on the job. The rest of the crew will have nothing to do with that, because this old man is a charity case. Cut to the old man saying Pabst Blue Ribbon is the best beer in America, and he felt like king of the world and loved working on this job. Couldn’t find it, sent you the hard hat ad instead. 47 I've liked the cars for a long time. I first got into them in the MTV days, when the band made good use of the video format to get some buzz & sell a lot of records. I then got acquainted with their Seventies stuff & some songs that didn't get airplay or TV play.
Posted by: exdem13 FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT at May 24, 2025 08:04 PM (XjTSo) ummmmm...they were huge before MTV. Their first album can literally be relabeled "Greatest Hits", as basically seven of the nine tracks were (and still are) in heavy rotation on the radio stations across America (the other two also got "deep cut" airplay back in the day.) I'd also say 6X Platinum (better than Heartbeat City's 4X) meant they had plenty of buzz from the jump. Candy-O from '79 was also huge... Posted by: goozer at May 24, 2025 09:24 PM (V1MWf) 152

Compared to a couple of decades ago, music is heavily produced. What you hear never really happened in real life. It is a construct. It takes a lot of talent to make something as profound in real time.
The music has been sculpted in the studio by a bunch of acoustic mechanics using all kinds of digital tools. Listening to it is a much more intense experience but that is what is needed to break though to people now. Posted by: pawn at May 24, 2025 10:08 PM (QB+5g) 185
