The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

The Ukraine war seems like a throwback to the brutal battles of World War I, where advances in the lethality of weaponry weren't matched by advances in tactics to avoid massive casualties without concomitant gains. But it is also clear that Russia's advantage in men and arms is slowly grinding Ukraine down. It is a messy, deadly, horrible win (called: War), so the Western world, with its post-modern fear of death, is shocked...SHOCKED...that people die in battle!

Why shouldn't Putin continue to prosecute this war? He is winning, the Russian people seem to be modestly in support of it, the Western sanctions, while painful, are not terribly destructive, and the war is exposing the deep divisions within the West with regard to NATO and its proper function.

Never mind the drumbeats for war in Europe's capitols... they are waiting for their 20th century savior....Pax Americana... to save the day! Their martial spirit is a facade, and until they rebuild their militaries there isn't much they can do about Ukraine! Even President Trump bought into that nonsense, although luckily he wasn't pushing for American troops on the ground.

Before I even arrive at the Oval Office shortly after I win the presidency, I will have the horrible war between Russia and Ukraine settled. Somebody said, are you on Russia's side? Are you on Ukraine's side? You know what? The side -- I want people to stop dying.

Except all that talk was backed up by....nothing. It was an ego-driven commitment to solving an issue that is far more complex than at first glance, especially when both sides are not particularly desirous of peace. Putin wants what Putin wants, and the tinpot midget in Ukraine loves the graft and the world stage.

Trump says he's 'not happy' with Putin after massive Ukraine strike

"I'm not happy with what Putin is doing," Trump explained. "He's killing a lot of people, and I don't know what the hell happened to Putin."

"I've known him a long time, always gotten along with him, but he's sending rockets into cities and killing people, and I don't like it at all," he added.

It's called "War."

And President Trump's arrogance that just because he called for negotiations and an end to the war means that everyone involved should stop fighting while negotiations proceed is backed up by rhetoric, and nothing substantive. Will President Trump send troops? I doubt it. Will President Trump rearm Ukraine? I doubt it. He is relying on his force of will and his vaunted ability to find common cause between two sides. Sure, that works in real estate, and hell, it works in a lot of other situations. But not in all things.

Luckily, the pint-sized putz from Ukraine is overstepping ... again ... and demanding more.

In a post on Telegram, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called for an international response to the attack.

"The silence of America, the silence of others in the world only encourages Putin," he wrote on Telegram. "Every such terrorist Russian strike is reason enough for new sanctions against Russia."

Thankfully President Trump also has a sensible side:

"This is a War that would never have started if I were President. This is Zelenskyy's, Putin's, and Biden's War, not 'Trump's,' I am only helping to put out the big and ugly fires, that have been started through Gross Incompetence and Hatred," Trump concluded.

But that doesn't help the current situation. Zelenskyy wants something that he can't have unless the West joins the battle: a return to the status quo ante bellum. Is it worth a world war to satisfy the demands of Ukraine and its kleptocratic rulers, and to satiate the blood-lust of Europe?

Trump always over-sells. I did think he'd have this settled by now, but the Western puppet in Ukraine thinks he has a lot more cards than he does.

And the rest of the West lying to him isn't helping.

Putin "won" this war. It isn't pretty, but that describes pretty much all Russian victories.

Also, given that our feckless ruling class caused this war (IN MYRIAD WAYS), the blood is on their hands.

I don't think Trump has any illusions about this war or the motivations of the combatants. He is calling for negotiations and peace because what else is he to do? This is at least a substantial improvement over Joey Squat's policies, which were to continue encouraging Ukraine and pouring money down that rat hole.

I think Trump recognizes this war as a foreign squabble between scumbags having little to do with the USA. I secretly think his attitude is "pox on both your houses." Which is also my attitude, and probably the attitude of most Americans. I literally do not give a shit what happens in Ukraine.

The Donald is a product of his Cold War upbringing. He can't look at a conflict, anywhere, and simply mind his own business. Its the old football player mentality. Damn it - there's a big game going on somewhere, and he wants to see his boy playing !!!

Oversimplified ? Not really. Not if certain folks are honest with themselves. Trumps generation was raised, quite literally, by seeing the US flag carried by US troops whenever and wherever shots were fired.

The notion is simply staying at home, and letting things play out for good or ill, is just not in their vocabulary.

48 Raw Story: The conservative Wall Street Journal urged Republican senators Monday to stand up to President Donald Trump and force through action against Russia — even if their leader opposes it.

The editorial board wrote, “Mr. Trump may be the only person in the world still surprised by how Mr. Putin is behaving. The Russian is the same man he’s been for two decades, bent on reconstituting as much of the old Soviet empire as he can get away with. Ukraine is his obsession.

Trump has "NO CLUE"! Putin is playing him like an out of tune violin. He thinks he's the smartest man on Earth, but Putin is walking all over him.

He's lying. Rooting for Russia while faking the "Both sides need to come together" bullshit. Flaming Cheeto POS!

I suspect they'll keep at each other for the foreseeable future. Trump isn't going to be able to stop it. Nor should he try.

I, truly, believe that Starmer and Macron attempted to trap the US into participating in a most nefarious way. Starmer, you might recall, wanted the US to serve as an "Insurance Policy" in support of EU and UK peace keeping forces.

First of all, the EU and UK have materiel and forces to last a little less than 4 months in such a role. So, some time within that period something would have to happen to initiate the entry of the US via said "Insurance Policy." Call me jaded, but I think the EU and UK and Ukraine would orchestrate the event. THEN, when the US entered the conflict in any capacity, they would assure another event to cost American lives and thus solidify our involvement (while supporting the EU and UK forces financially...which was the ultimate goal).

Call me a cynic. I don't trust our "allies" anymore. And, I don't think we should.

I hate it for the Ukrainian people who are being subjected to this war as it's not their fault. I have no love for Russia or Putin the KGB thug, but this war is quite frankly none of our business. If the simpering queers in Europe want to take their thumbs out of each others' asses and do something to stop it, more power to them.

I think just like we all encouraged our politicos to "Learn what time it is" with respect to the culture wars at home, it's time for a lot of the commentariat on the right to do the same with regard to the American people's appetite for engaging in more expeditionary wars at this point in time. Such an appetite doesn't exist unless your name is Mark Levin or you have your lips attached to his increasingly-decrepit and shrill ass.

The latest innovations have been in drone swarms. To attack, an assailant will launch a handful of drones with warheads embedded in a cloud of 90 - 100 very cheap decoy drones; this saturates air defenses and greatly heightens the odds of deadly drones getting through to target.
And using million dollar missiles to shoot down $10.000 decoy drones is absolutely unsustainable.

224 National Public Radio on Tuesday sued President Donald Trump over his executive order to cease all federal funding for the nonprofit broadcaster. Trump’s May 1 order violates the First Amendment’s protections of speech and the press and steps on Congress’ authority, NPR and three other public radio stations wrote in the lawsuit filed in federal court in Washington, D.C. The order “also threatens the existence of a public radio system that millions of Americans across the country rely on for vital news and information,” according to the legal complaint against Trump and a handful of top officials and federal agencies.

250 The US is doing plenty to push both sides to the negotiating table. 1) Our drill baby drill energy policy + increased ME oil production is keeping oil prices down, which means less revenue for the Russian war machine 2) The US is armstronging the Yoorups to increase their defense spending, which admittedly, is a hard pull. Spain, for instance, counts its CO2 emissions reduction spending as "defense" spending, because they're "saving the planet". 3) Trump is pointing out that European energy imports from Russia are rather counter-productive.

It appears to me that Europe is subsidizing their defense industries by sending their near-obsolescent military assets to the Ukes while at the same time importing natural gas from Russia. A strange, brutal, and aimless policy if you ask me.

276 Under DEI, one’s degree of oppression is determined based upon where one resides on a so-called intersectional pyramid of oppression where whites, Jews, and Asians are deemed oppressors, and a subset of people of color, LGBTQ people, and/or women are deemed to be oppressed.

Under DEI’s ideology, any policy, program, educational system, economic system, grading system, admission policy, (and even climate change due its disparate impact on geographies and the people that live there), etc. that leads to unequal outcomes among people of different skin colors is deemed racist.

As a result, according to DEI, capitalism is racist, Advanced Placement exams are racist, IQ tests are racist, corporations are racist, or in other words, any merit-based program, system, or organization which has or generates outcomes for different races that are at variance with the proportion these races represent in the population at large is by definition racist under DEI’s ideology. But rather than being anti-racist, DEI and its ideological framework are profoundly racist and illegal, and an important to contributor to what has gone wrong at Harvard in recent years.

My company has been working on Area Denial against UAVs for some time now. It can be pretty thorny.

Quads can be disrupted relatively easily, oddly enough. They are fairly fragile and there are a number of fairly cheap ways to do it.

Others, like Predator-style UAVs, are a bit trickier. There's always the option of turning off or encrypting GPS signals from the source since, really, we pretty much own those satellites. Other methods usually have mixed results because of their size and minimal emissions as compared to manned aircraft.

The Ukes v. Russians always reminds me of a scene from Babylon 5 when the Narn and the Centauri restart their war.

KOSH: They are a dying people. We should let them die.
SINCLAIR: Who, the Narn or the Centauri?
KOSH: Yes.

Neither side will recover demographically for generations, if ever.

307 >Finland 'preparing for the worst' amid major Russian military expansion
Would this be happening had we not brought Finland into NATO? [CBD]

If Finland is an actual country it has a right to join whatever diplomatic groups it wants to. Ukraine too, for that matter. If they're not allowed to than they are something besides actual countries.

Also, yes it would have happened. Russia has always considered Finland to be theirs.

Personally, I think NATO should have pivoted to focusing on China, but that's an entirely different conversation.

331 Wah a girl so super cute that she worries it will cause people to not pay her the kind of attention she wants but still takes the cute girl roles. Wah.

Yeah its a bit difficult to take the complaints of rich, beautiful, famous people seriously. The latest season of Clarkson's Farm has a really great scene. Kaleb the farm manager hayseed has been out doing a comedy variety tour about his life etc, and it did well.

So he comes back to the farm and is not his usual self. Jeremy has a talk with him about fame, coming back off tour, and the way people are treated when on tour. He said it messes with your head to be treated like royalty (and hinted strongly having women throw themselves at you) and yeah he got through to Kaleb.

I think when you grow up your whole life with that, it really warps you, even if you manage to avoid the pedos.

FCPS doesn't have due dates for assignments - they are more like suggestions. A student can turn in assignments late and still get credit.

If it comes down to a student from FCPS with a 4.5 and one from, say, Andover with a 4.0, FCPS isn't competitive.
