  • Why we're unlikely to get artificial general intelligence anytime soon. (MSN)

Because all the money - somehow - is working on artificial vapid idiots.
"The technology we're building today is not sufficient to get there," said Nick Frosst, a founder of the AI startup Cohere who previously worked as a researcher at Google and studied under the most revered AI researcher of the last 50 years. "What we are building now are things that take in words and predict the next most likely word, or they take in pixels and predict the next most likely pixel. That's very different from what you and I do."
This is of course true and makes me wonder how Nick has avoided being executed as a heretic.
Opinions differ in part because scientists cannot even agree on a way of defining human intelligence, arguing endlessly over the merits and flaws of IQ tests and other benchmarks. Comparing our own brains to machines is even more subjective. This means that identifying AGI is essentially a matter of opinion.
Correct. But we are at least getting good at creating vapid idiots.

I'm not sure why we are doing that, but we are good at it.

Prostate cancer is the easiest cancer to diagnose when it first starts and to watch it progress to bone metastases. The PSA blood test shows the rate of cancer cell growth. For even with the most aggressive form, it is a 5-7 year journey without treatment before it becomes metastatic.
Meaning, it would be malpractice for this patient to show up and be first diagnosed with metastatic disease in May 2025.

73 Hello, folks

I am really trying to avoid politics , but I actually have a tech question about which- not surprisingly- I’m clueless. As some of you know, my son’s phone dropped out of his pocket and a co-worker ran I’ve it. Can you transfer from one phone to another if on the broken phone you cannot see anything on the screen? Sorry; we have never had this problem before and although FenSpiuse was an excellent computer programmer and systems when he did that , he does not know much about cell phones . Thanks so much. Hopefully new phone will arrive in mail today so I can have my phone back, but son has an hour commute and I don’t want him to be without a phone. I will check later when spouse comes back from his first bus run.

May you all have a blessed day and know that you are a blessing to others.

81 Fen, from what little I know about cell phones -- which is about the same as little Dagny cat knows about calculus -- it may be possible to plug the old phone into a computer, use Windows Explorer to find the data on it, transfer it to the computer, then plug in a new phone and transfer the data to that one. I do that, phone to computer, for images when I take a pic and want to upload it to a forum.

82 Mental issues aside, it is a matter of national significance that a severely ill man was kept in office, and they were either incompetent or lying about it the entire time. It's not even about holding on to power. The reason we have such a solid succession path for the presidency is to avoid one person's health issues destabilizing the country. They wouldn't have lost power, just swapped one brain dead puppet for another. This story is about much more than one old guy's health issues.

I'm now of the opinion Congresscritters must read into the Congressional Record random responses, including the vulgar ones (free speech and all), to their idiotic tweets. 86 Speaking of Amazon deliveries, Bezos's little hobby site says the packages I sent to my oldest friend in Clearwater were dropped off Sunday at his front door.

No phone call yet. Either he no longer lives there (and I've tried calling the numbers I have and got no answer), and somebody has a nice gift; or he lives there but was away this weekend; or he lives there, got the books, and . . . Well.

There's also the possibility that he has passed away, I guess, and his widow doesn't want to deal with calling me.

112 Well to go along with the general stupidity, looks like Kash and Bongino have fully been told what’s what by the Deep State, they declared after seeing the evidence that Epstein killed himself and that you know a suicide when you see one.

No explanation for putting a cop/murderer in his cell as a roommate who proceeded to beat the shit out of him, no explanation for the guards falling asleep or the cameras malfunctioning or why every blanket in the jail was in his cell.

This is all very disappointing.

Means we are never getting to bottom of who was running Epstein.

162 Can you transfer from one phone to another if on the broken phone you cannot see anything on the screen?
Posted by: FenelonSpoke at May 19, 2025 05:52 AM (RWZLR)

I’ll try to give you an answer.
If the phone is an iPhone you can backup through the iTunes software on a PC using the USB cable.

This will basically transfer the entire contents of the phone to the computer.

After that is done, it will take some time to backup so be patient, you can then hook up the new iPhone and iTunes will allow you to setup the new phone from the old backup on the PC.

Most of the time the iTunes program will ask you iif you want to setup the new phone this way once it detects that it hasn’t been setup yet.

There is a problem, though, as iTunes may ask you to authorize the old and new phones when you first connect them.

This is done by showing a random 6 digit code on the screen of the phone which you then type into a dialog box on the PC.

That may cause you to never be able to back it up on your own.
If that all fails you’ll need to take it your phone to your provider or an Apple Store to see if they can do it.

163 If your son has an Android phone there are similar programs that will allow you to back it up to a PC and then do a similar procedure as above.

I’ve never owned an Android phone so I can’t run through it al with you but if you do a search for “backing up an Android phone to setup a new one”, there should be plenty of tutorials online to help.
