Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | The Morning Rant![]() It was once said, "It takes a village to raise a child." Unless one of the villagers is Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. Then the Professional Know-It-Alls cry like like toddlers having their Teddy Bear confiscated. Over the years we have heard the mantra, "It is for the children!!!" But, it basically boils down to the cool villagers and their acolytes grifting off the rest of the village. Lording their position over the uncool villagers. The money drips here and there on children. But, most of it finds its way into a certain number of private hands and other body parts and/or orifices. Bobby Kennedy demonstrated the hypocrisy of the left and to some extent the right to the world if they happened to tune into his testimony before congress on Wednesday May 14th. It isn't about the children. It is about a certain group of elected and non-elected officials who cannot admit they are wrong or the science isn't settled (Unless they cling to their beliefs) Let's examine one of these "Politicians" who questioned Secretary Kennedy. The politician in question is one U.S. Congressman Mike Simpson (R-ID). Rep. Simpson is a dentist. But, I'm not sure how much practicing he has been doing since he has been a congressman since 1999. Before that he was busy with the Idaho state legislature where he served from 1984-1998. As a "Dentist" Rep. Simpson should have known better than to match wits with Sec. Kennedy without doing any type of home work regarding fluoride use. Do better "Doc" Simpson, do better. Or at least your overpaid and under employed staff could do better. The congressman cares about the children and the need for dentists yet doesn't know about the HHS own report. The HHS which he is a member of an oversight committee. We put in a whole house water filter. It removes 100% of all the crap put in our water to 'make it better'. Installer told us it removes flouride, I said I didn't care. Looking at the tech specs, it removes a LOT of stuff the gummint puts in the water and was designed specifically to do so. Water tastes better right out of the tap now, and I no longer smell chlorine from the tap. Clothes feel softer after washing. Good purchase. It also reverse flushes to the yard twice a week and cleans itself. I look at the drain spot occasionally and there is usually a sludge of nasty looking shiz at the outlet that it has filtered out of my water supply. As a "Dentist" Rep. Simpson should have known better than to match wits with Sec. Kennedy without doing any type of home work regarding fluoride use.
Most medical professionals, as with most non-medical professionals, pretty much know what was the thinking when they left school. Continuing education is based on ethics, the latest way convince your client to give you more money, and regurgitation of the same BS as always. Very few people in the science industries have a scientific mindset. They don't look at studies which say things other than what they already "know". This, of course, is exactly the same as the people who aren't in the science industries. It's also why the government should keep it's fingers out of things. We gave fluoride supplements to our daughter when she was 3-7 and we lived in cities that did not add fluoride to the water. This move limits parents’ choice and is more government interference. But I’m sure MAGAts only care when it is THEIR choice being taken away.
More money for dentists soon as lots more kids get cavities. Kids love sugar. I anticipate fierce backlash to this and any other revisions to FDA guidelines or rules that Makary and Bob have in their less than scientific plans. "a scientific review ... with the aim of removing them from the market" - it's not a SCIENTIFIC review if it is intended to reach a pre-determined conclusion, whether Marty Malarky thinks so or not. That's a political review, just like if Pope Paul V ordered a scientific review with the aim of banishing Galileo for heresy. Toothpaste is next. Get ready for very poor dental health and also black market to get ahold of these products to protect your teeth. As soon as the MAGAs are banned from working in government every harmful thing they do now can be UNDONE. I hope we're all keeping lists. Japan stopped fluoridating water, and seem okay? I have it good authority that even the tiniest amounts of arsenic in water are bad and must be removed.
The bill lowering the acceptable arsenic level in drinking water was not passed by Congress as a separate bill. Instead, it was implemented by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as part of their broader efforts under the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA). Specifically, the EPA lowered the maximum contaminant level (MCL) for arsenic from 50 parts per billion (ppb) to 10 ppb in 2001. If that's the case, then even tiny amounts of fluoride must be removed. In fact, we should probably all stop drinking water altogether. It's too risky. See, the great thing about removing mandates is that whatever was mandated is no longer required.
And I know that this will confuse mast Democrats, but "not required" is not in any way the same thing as "forbidden". Toothpaste manufacturers were already removing fluoride from their products, because there was a demand for non-fluoridated toothpaste. Yet the fluoridated versions still exist, because there's a demand for fluoridated toothpaste too. Fluoride isn't going away. People who want it will be able to have it, people who don't want it won't have it forced on them. Posted by: FeatherBlade at May 15, 2025 11:24 AM (+JCh0) 47

It isn't surprising that a US representative would be closed to the introduction of new information or refining their view, as the same character traits are common among everyday people as well.
Most people, by nature, believe their positions on any given topic are as a result of their adoption of the proper information, and where their position aligns with the orthodox, commonly held position, they feel even more committed to defending it against any outsider from that position. This is why the process of growth is so slow, we brand any dissenting voice as a "conspiracist" or "nut-job" or other such pejorative. COVID cracked the shell, to some extent. But many still struggle in letting go of long-held internal narratives upon which they based their worldviews, suffering from Gell-Mann amnesia. The truth you discover through observation, experimentation and even intuition, are superior to truth relayed by authoritative sources. This is largely because authoritative sources have vested interests in being the font of truth, be they monetary, political, egotistical or psychological in nature. Those with the most to lose are those whose narratives are existential. Posted by: The Scales Are Falling From Eyes at May 15, 2025 11:27 AM (8hq5W) 55

Hey- real dentist here. The congressman is correct. Every study shows fluoride in water reduces cavities. Every study shows fluoride is safe in proper doses. Water, oxygen, protein are toxic in excess amounts. In my career I've seen smooth surface cavities (the ones prevented by fluoride) explode since folks have started drinking filtered/bottled water. I can tell by xrays alone which patients have fluoride in their water and which ones don't. My understanding is the rush to put flouride in the water was due to a large percentage of the population, especially children, not using a flouride toothpaste or regularly seeing a dentist to give them flouride. Giving it in drinking water was always a bit questionable - compare how you drink a glass of water versus how you brush your teeth

My understanding is the rush to put flouride in the water was due to a large percentage of the population, especially children, not using a flouride toothpaste or regularly seeing a dentist to give them flouride.
--------- In boot camp, recruits were assembled in mess halls and given small tubes of flouride and toothbrushes, and instructed and observed while they applied and brushed. On May 9, 2025, President Donald Trump signed an executive order titled “Fighting Overcriminalization in Federal Regulations,” addressing one of the most insidious threats to American liberty: the unchecked expansion of criminal penalties through regulatory sprawl.
The order accomplishes two key reforms. First, it limits criminal enforcement to cases in which a person knowingly violates a regulation, discouraging the use of “strict liability,” which bypasses the traditional requirement of criminal intent. Second, it compels federal agencies to publicly identify every regulation they enforce with criminal penalties, along with the statutory authority and mental state required for conviction. That such basic transparency has never been required is an indictment of how far the system has drifted from constitutional norms. Posted by: SMOD at May 15, 2025 11:53 AM (RHGPo) 133

I've seen a lot of people using Grok recently, so I tried it for the first time on a Rick Wilson X post.
@grok is Rick Wilson a beta male or soy boy? The terms "beta male" and "soy boy" are subjective insults, often used to mock men perceived as lacking traditional masculinity, especially in politically charged online spaces. Rick Wilson, a political strategist and Trump critic, is targeted with these labels due to his progressive stances and intellectual approach. However, his assertive leadership in the Lincoln Project and confident media presence contradict these stereotypes. The terms reflect cultural biases and political divides, not objective truth, and are criticized for promoting toxic masculinity. Wilson's actions suggest strength and influence, not weakness. I guess AI only learns what it's taught, so I can't be too surprised or disappointed with this answer. Posted by: Moron Analyst at May 15, 2025 11:56 AM (JCZqz) 151

Snickers was introduced in 1930.
------------------- Wow. Did not know that. I do remember them available in the 60s. Prior to that availability was only Baby Ruth. Posted by: Pudinhead at May 15, 2025 11:56 AM (n17eQ) Growing up in the 50's, most of us kids weren't allowed to buy those candies because our parents thought of them as a waste of money. Most of the little confectionary stores in town sold either Hershey bars, those little strips of paper with tiny candy dots on them, or chocolate "breakups" at a penny a apiece. But we also didn't spend much time in the house, either. Always outdoors running around like maniacs, burning off the calories. In my career I've seen smooth surface cavities (the ones prevented by fluoride) explode since folks have started drinking filtered/bottled water.
Wouldn't that just as easily be the lack of topical exposure though? ----- Other than that, the whole "It affects IQ" thing is... there are so many confounding factors that affect IQ. Everything from nutrition to upbringing to parents' reading habits. Unless that meta analysis controlled for all the other confounding factors, saying that "it's Fluoride" is... not useful? The problem is...most everyone doesn't want to wait that long. You can get short term effects rapidly. But long term effects would take decades to know...literal decades. Usually, we just guess from long term effects on animals, which is a bad way to do this.
When I was trying to decide what to do about the clot shot I went to a forum for medical researchers where someone asked how they could know if the shot was safe. The response was that to measure the safety of a drug you needed years of study, not the weeks that the shot had - the shot could give you cancer or make you grow extra fingers know one would know for years but "you should take the shot" This is exactly what prompted me to NOT get the clot shot. Also, there was a fight in Trump's first term about whether the FDA would let people with terminal illnesses take unapproved drugs. Trump's argument was that we should because they are going to die anyway, and the establishment argued no because, uh, the drugs might kill them. And then these same people started mandating the clot shot not knowing what it would do for an illness that wasn't life threatening. Posted by: 18-1 at May 15, 2025 12:07 PM (t0Rmr) 198

LOL. Grok doesn't grok that involvement in the Lincoln Project definitely makes Wilson a soy boy. He'd have to be interested in women in order to be a beta male. Posted by: FeatherBlade at May 15, 2025 12:23 PM (hB7mE) 232
