Saturday Night "Club ONT" May 17, 2025 [The 3 Ds]

L Store.JPG

Welcome to Club ONT! A collaboration of your Sunday through Wednesday ONT Crew - The Disco, The Doggo, and The Dino. Please note: Local law enforcement has recovered the sign that disappeared from the Club last weekend and has reportedly launched a full-blown dragnet in their quest to track down the Moron(s) responsible for the temporary sign adventure. They're currently dusting for fingerprints, collecting DNA, and possibly reaching out to the Gin Blossoms to get Mrs. Rita on the case. As we all know, this is the time-honored moment for the Rule of Siblings: Nobody saw anything, nobody knows anything.

Saturday Night Joke

A big city lawyer went duck hunting in rural North Dakota.

He shot and dropped a bird, but it fell into a farmer's field on the other side of a fence.

As the lawyer climbed over the fence, an elderly farmer drove up on his tractor and asked him what he was doing.

The litigator responded, "I shot a duck and it fell in this field, and now I'm going to retrieve it."

The old farmer replied, "This is my property, and you are not coming over here."

The indignant lawyer said, "I am one of the best trial attorneys in the United States and if you don't let me get that duck, I'll sue you and take everything you own!"

The old farmer smiled and said, "Apparently, you don't know how we settle disputes in North Dakota. We settle small disagreements like this with the "Three Kick Rule.'"

The lawyer asked, "What is the Three Kick Rule?"

The farmer replied, "Well, because the dispute occurs on my land, first I kick you three times and then you kick me three times, and so on back and forth until someone gives up."

The attorney quickly thought about the proposed contest and decided that he could easily take the old codger.

He agreed to abide by the local custom.

The old farmer slowly climbed down from the tractor and walked up to the attorney.

His first kick planted the toe of his heavy steel-toed work boot into the lawyer's groin and dropped him to his knees.

His second kick to the midriff sent the lawyer's last meal gushing from his mouth.

The lawyer was on all fours when the farmer's third kick to his rear end sent him face-first into a fresh cow pie.

The lawyer summoned every bit of his will and managed to get onto his feet.

Wiping his face with the arm of his jacket, he said, "Okay, you old coot. Now it's my turn."

The old farmer smiled and said, "Naw, I give up. You can have the duck."

Your brain is sometimes more active when you are asleep than awake. So yes, your brain is partying without you.

You can't tickle yourself. Yep, that damned brain again - it predicts the tickle.

Your foot is about the same length as your forearm. Go ahead, some of you are going to try it.

Speaking of Preakness

Short promo clip from Preakness 40 years ago

Clip from Pimlico in the movie Tin Men

Pimlico racetrack (nicknamed Old Hilltop) in northwest Baltimore is decrepit. It will soon undergo a major renovation project.

What will the new Pimlico look like?

Pimlico's grandstand, clubhouse, horse barns will all be torn down over the summer

Last week, the Maryland Board of Public Works approved a demolition contract for Pimlico that will make the Northwest Baltimore facility the universe of Maryland horse racing.

The Maryland Thoroughbred Racetrack Operating Authority created the redevelopment plan that's now written into state law.

"This is real. I don't think anybody is going to believe it until they actually start to tear things down," said Greg Cross, the chairman of MTROA. "We have gone from a bill enacted and a concept, to a plan and actual implementation. We are really moving forward this time."

The state is investing $500 million into a plan to transform Pimlico's aging infrastructure into a year-round facility. The new Pimlico currently hosts 15 racing days. The plan is for the facility to host more than 100.

***

Demolition is slated to start in late June or early July, so the 2026 Preakness will move to Laurel Park.

By not rotating the track as originally planned, authorities said that also saves in the construction timeline, almost guaranteeing the Preakness returns to Baltimore in 2027.

Much more at the link including a video segment from WBAL News.

[Disco says: I couldn't find a clip online, but maybe some MD morons remember the old "Hiiiiiii... Hooooooo... PIMLICO!" jingle they used to include in their radio promos.]

Public service announcement:

Registration open for clothing-optional 5k race in South Carolina

A South Carolina resort says it already has a record 161 people signed up to run an annual 5k race with an unusual twist: it's clothing-optional.

The Carolina Foothills Resort, a nudist resort in Spartanburg County, said this year's Buck Creek Streak 5k already has a record high number of people registered for the June 14 race.

"You can go anywhere and do a 5k, but you can't go anywhere and run a 5k naked. If you go to the turkey trot and drop your drawers, you're probably gonna be arrested."

It's not the season for the flower and the alcohol ingredients aside from the peach schnapps don't resemble the colors of the flower. Is the flower some symbol of the horse race? Or is it that if "Susan" had too many of these drinks she ends up on flat on her face and gets a black eye? Yes( I realize I'm over thinking this😉

77 I've Got the Blues tonight. 3 hours of sleep with the storms last night. My 14-year-old cat is very sick. Work has been brutal. Although I'm glad to have a good income. But it's tiring. And my MRI scan didn't find any cancerous masses which is good, but it did find some signs of aging and some T2 white matter hyperintensities which can be a harbinger of Alzheimer's. The doctor gave me a quick mini mental status exam and I think I passed it, but it's just a lot.

Then I looked at a Blog that said that the FBI is getting its shining new headquarters and Kash Patel is excited about that and I thought just screw all this political stuff it's so depressing. The DNC talking points say that word for word, so you might consult a thesaurus. The bar version is a softening of the original mob coinage. And Comey worked directly on at least one mob case where it meaning “murder” was very explicit. Plus it’s not like we haven’t seen shrill death threats from lefties constantly for the last 18 months.

I posted the first paragraph last night at 12:22, and I bailed around 1:30, so I never saw the second paragraph. The implication, of course, is that I'm some sort of DNC tool. That phrasing is directly from my own peanut brain, so, if Ian's claim is correct, there's a DNC lurker here who copied me. Or, if Ian is only referring to the last sentence, it's just co-inki-dink. But, to the point, Mafia "code" is hardly known. The paranoia, or more likely, cheap political histrionics, is outta hand. Comey is sending coded messages to the Mafia, rando assasins, or maybe Awiens to kill Trump. Riiiiight.

No one said he was sending coded messages to any of those groups, but it is a call for violence and the harsh reality is there are people who aren’t firmly planted in reality over there- he was shot at twice already. This is also huge on the antifa chats, so again, it was threatening, and if he thought it was being cute, he was very wrong.

155 I posted the first paragraph last night at 12:22, and I bailed around 1:30, so I never saw the second paragraph. 394 Anybody who has spent any time sitting on a barstool knows what "86" means. It means thrown out and banned from ever returning

228 Thank you for the kind comments and encouragement, little gray box friends. It really does help.

As far as the tall ship accident in New York is concerned, I used to sail on a schooner in New York Harbor and I can tell you the East River current is Wicked Strong, it can run as fast as five knots. If you lose power, which they obviously did because they were going backwards, it can suck you in directions you do not want to go! Our engine went out on us one time and we nearly pranked the Domino Sugar Factory on the Brooklyn side and we're only saved because one of our crew members, who was actually an airline mechanic, got into the bilge and found out the fuel line was blocked and actually sucked and spat the blockage out. Our passengers were blissfully unaware that we nearly had an accident but I can tell you the current was moving us just that fast in the wrong direction.

That makes sense, some people were commenting that the ship was sailing in reverse (!) and the tug was struggling to control it. Basically a sailing nightmare.

234 In addition to the apparent mechanical failure, it appears to me (non-expert) that the captain screwed up bigly.

Why were there men in precarious positions?

As soon as they lost power, the captain needed to immediately call to rig for a collision.

Further, I don't believe their masts fit under any span of the bridge. Was the plan to back up to just short of the bridge, salute, and then "sail" back up against the current?

Sounds like a little bit of unnecessary risk due to hot-dogging to me?

343 At the Three Bears this evening a guy didn't buckle his toddler into the cart, and she fell out right on her head on the concrete. It was the worst sound I have ever heard. Dude moved like the wind to pick her up, and she screamed like a banshee, so at least it didn't kill her, but he was so freaked out (so was I) he didn't know what to do. I asked if I could call an ambulance for him, but he asked if he should go to the ER. I said YES and he ran like hell with her. He mentioned that everyone at his house was ill and.... he seemed out of his element.

So now I'm concerned that the proggie idiots at Mat-Su Hospital will accuse him of something awful, and I can't figure out how to make sure they don't make it worse. It was clearly an accident, nobody's fault, but you know how these things go these days.

Guess I will watch the news and see if it gets out of hand. I probably should have called that ambulance and made sure everything was on the record.

Shit.

I'm gonna dream that awful sound tonight, I know it.

394 scampydog, I think that is a great idea!
A neighbor and I went out for dinner and drinks one night, and the next morning about 15 Black Lives Matter signs were on another neighbor's lawn. I have only the foggiest remembrance of the gathering or the planting but I almost wet my pants driving down the street the day after.

428 Hadn't checked on Dad's place since Tuesday, until yesterday afternoon...

The City had trimmed junipers along the street! I got NO advance notice of this, unlike before:

Previously, had received what I call "a nasty-gram" re: the grass was "too tall" and I had 2 weeks to trim before City would do it at my expense, yadda yadda, and so I did it, no problem. (Hubby was getting difficult to handle at that time, but I managed to trim it myself...)

I'm *breathless with anticipation* of what they will charge! And PO'd in the extreme, that I was not given the usual advance notice!

Last autumn, the grass wasn't as tall as the City's letter claimed, but I knew it needed trimming. OK, so I trimmed it. No biggie. I figured some neighbor what had the For Sale sign in yard had called in..

This week? I dunno. But, why TF did I not get a nasty-gram first?

It's gonna cost a bunch! Double or Triple 'normal' cost because Union wages and 2-3x necessary man-hours...
