Man caught filming woman breastfeeding on bus tells passengers 'f*** off, I'm English'
Hamidat Soliu, 27, was breastfeeding while travelling to visit her friend when she was alerted that another passenger was filming her.

Yes, the guy is a creep. It wasn't moral. But, is it legal? And if not, what recourse does the offended mother have?

Is there a Dr. Muldoon in the house? Paging Dr. Muldoon.

National Limerick Day, held every year on May 12, pays homage to the man who made the short poems widespread — Edward Lear. Lear was an English poet who is known for his nonsense-style, often writing with made-up words, telling tales of “Quangle-Wangles,” and “runcible spoons.” He wrote 212 limericks, most of which didn’t follow the specific rhyming rules of the style. Although the by definition limericks have five lines, Lear’s were often shown in three or four, to give space to his accompanying illustrations and drawings. (A favorite of his: “There was an Old Man of Peru, who watched his wife making a stew; But once by mistake, In a stove she did bake, That unfortunate Man of Peru.”

Spit Science: Why Saliva Is A Great Way To Detect Disease

Spit Science: Why Saliva Is A Great Way To Detect Disease

This isn’t entirely new. Scientists first noticed the diagnostic potential of spit decades ago. In the 1980s, researchers used saliva to detect hormones and drug use. By the 1990s, it was being explored as a way to detect HIV.

What’s new is the speed and precision. Today’s techniques can detect subtle molecular shifts that would have been impossible to measure just a few years ago.

Saliva holds a surprising amount of information. It’s full of tiny fragments of DNA, RNA, proteins and fats – many of which change when disease takes hold. Researchers have already shown that saliva can be used to detect changes linked to diabetes, Parkinson’s, heart disease and some cancers.

A recent study even showed saliva could help distinguish between healthy people and those with mild cognitive impairment, a possible early sign of Alzheimer’s.

In dentistry, spit science is being studied for early signs of gum disease and even the risk of tooth decay.

A light-based technique called Raman spectroscopy is one of the latest tools being used to scan saliva for hidden chemical changes. It works by bouncing harmless light off molecules in a spit sample and reading the pattern it sends back – a kind of fingerprint for what’s happening inside your body.

How two unmarked SUVs fanned fears that ICE was detaining nannies in D.C.
Rumors of raids at playgrounds and parks — all false, according to federal officials — have left the city on guard for days.

By the time lawyers arrived Wednesday morning at the leafy playground in one of the District’s most affluent neighborhoods, the rumors had already alarmed parents across the city.
ICE agents were taking nannies and leaving children in the park, messages on group emails, WhatsApp chats and text chains warned.
“Not trying to create hysteria,” began one message that ricocheted from one parent to another. It went on: “They are in Forest Hills right now in full tactical gear and children are being left behind.”
As concern grew, neighbors lined the block. An elected official jetted to the Forest Hills playground. Immigration attorneys handed out know-your-rights cards in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole to any nannies they could find.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials later told The Washington Post that agents had not targeted nannies at that playground nor any other in the District this week.

I wonder how The Fabulous and I were able to do it with 3 children and no nannies or parents near by.

SEATTLE —A driver is dead after jumping from the Ship Canal Bridge while attempting to flee the scene of a crash early Saturday morning, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The incident began around 1:48 a.m. when a trooper spotted a vehicle speeding on northbound I-5 near the bridge. As the trooper approached, the vehicle attempted to flee but quickly caused a three-car collision.

Despite damage from the crash, including the loss of the right front tire, the vehicle continued briefly before coming to a stop on the side barrier of the bridge. The driver then exited the car and jumped over the barrier in an attempt to escape, but did not survive the fall to the street below.

Five fishermen who survived 55 days adrift by drinking rain and parboiling passing fish arrive in Galapagos

QUITO, Ecuador
AP

Five fishermen who spent 55 days adrift at sea arrived Saturday at a port in the Galapagos Islands after being rescued by a tuna boat, the Ecuadorian navy said on X.

The three Peruvians and two Colombians had been missing since mid-March and were found on May 7 by an Ecuadorian boat called Aldo.

The fishermen had reported damage to the boat’s alternator two days after setting sail from Pucusana Bay, to the south of Peru’s capital Lima, the navy said in a separate post on Friday.

13 >>> Supreme Court Chief Justice Roberts Takes Veiled Shot at Trump AGAIN in Rare Public Appearance, Says Rule of Law “Endangered”

“Well, I’ve already spoken to that and, you know, impeachment is not how you register disagreement with decisions,” Roberts said in front of hundreds of judges and lawyers.

“The judiciary is a co-equal branch of government, separate from the others, with the authority to interpret the Constitution as law and strike down, obviously, acts of Congress or acts of the president,” he said.
===

I was not aware of any clause in the Constitution that gives any individual District Courts judge governmental authority which exceeds power of the President on any matter. In fact, power which approaches that absolute monachs. And there are literally hundreds of these judges running mok issuing arbitrary decrees.

Trump only goes half way in asking for impeaching them - they should be arrested for insurrection and/or treason regardless of how many bow to them.

That Roberts is doing multiple interviews right now, says this is political not about law.

It is literally about the Non Constitutional perceived power of the Court... that the Court itself has granted... itself.

Somehow women were able to feed babies for centuries without flashing their boobs in public. These exhibitionists are not feeding babies so much as looking to generate a reaction.

So, ICE did *not* show up at the playground to arrest nannies. All that happened was some people worked themselves into a tizzy. What exactly did Miss Caroline experience or witness? People working themselves into tizzies? That was the sole phenomenon? Baseless hysterics?

I'm thinking that unless those people have hired illegal invaders to nanny their kids, there's really not much drama to be had.

115 My mother was driving with an adult permit in Texas in the 1940s at age 14. Her mother was expected to die quickly of an auto-immune disease that was, at the time, poorly understood, so my mother was emancipated at 14 and got the permit. Then the disease went into remission and my grandmother didn’t die then. So she lived to know me and my siblings. Two auto-immune diseases reoccurred in the 1970s, both at the same time, so my grandmother was a special study at the local university medical center. She didn’t die of the auto-immune diseases, but they had so worn out her body curing her that she passed earlier than my grandfather in the 1980s. My maternal grandfather lived into the 2000s. I realize that my situation is somewhat similar to his now. C’est la vie!

In England, absolutely no clue. In America there is generally no expectation of privacy in a public place, though state laws may prohibit "video voyeurism" preclude nonconsensual filming or photography even in public if for a lewd or lascivious purpose. Best thing to do from a common sense and general courtesy perspective if you're breastfeeding in public is cover up, not hang your tiddies out there - though it's not at all clear what was going on on this situation. Still pervy and possibly illegal.

209 Cool derringer, AOP, and I like that it was made in Texas, but I think the psychology of a derringer was that you could gut shoot a man, and in the days before antibiotics, he would die a slow, lingering, and very painful death. That’s why they were so effective at settling gambling disputes: the threat was enough to get a man to forfeit his claim. How you convince a wild cat of that is another question. I’m not sure even two shots with even a very large caliber will put even a wildcat, never mind a larger cat, down. Might just make it angrier. Now if you loaded up with something that would put an elephant down, you might succeed, but how are you going to hold that derringer after that first shot? Just some speculation…

Got called in to a case recently. When I got picked for voir dire, I muttered, "looks like I'm going to the show". Chuckles from the surrounding audience. The defense attorney later asked me about my comment. "Baseball term", I replied. He pointed out that my current position (juror 16) was short of the majors. "Fine. Triple A, then".

I liked the guy. We went back and forth on some of the particulars of the case. Asked me if I was ever accused of sexual impropriety. I detailed a few things from my divorce. He asked what why I thought my ex would make such vile accusations. I went into a short dissertation of narcissistic behaviour disorder. When I was finished, the prosecution moved to dismiss me. The judge pointed out that he could only dismiss jurors 1-12. I was briefly moved to the number 11 spot until the prosecutor removed me at that point. Court reporter was a smoke show, FWIW..

The opening of that one was a stunner:

It only took one look at the judge to tell me that he put on his sullen face long before he donned his robe. The D.A. looked like he'd only recently been weaned, and the Defense had been chasing ambulances so much that he probably had tire treads under that cheap suit of his. The Defendant was the visual case for compulsory birth control. While I was debating whether I could choke the Bailiff and dive out the window, a brunette vision enveloped in Chanel Number 5 leaned over and whispered, "Is that a gun in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?"

"Yes," I answered.

350 Mid terms will probably be crazy, though. Lots of GOPe cope. Lots of primary shenanigans. Lots of churn around where DNC money goes now that one of their primary funding mechanisms is shaken, if not entirely stirred.

My hunch is the GOPe shrivels, and the DNC bifurcates into an insane wing and a just plain wrong wing with lots of daylight emerging between the two.

I think they'll remain together but they will become the Democratic Party. The sane or somewhat sane Dems will either vote Republican or go either Libertarian or a new party. The sane Dems cannot do what Trump did with the Republican Party: They do not have the money the insane Dems, like Pelosi and Schumer, have to force a shift, a takeover. Plus Trump really did grass-roots campaigning, for all his celebrity; he went places Republicans never go. There is no sane Dem with name recognition and money who can do what Trump did.

Trump is a singular phenomenon, a history book one-of-a-kind. President 45 and 47, the second to do that. Impeached twice, the first to do that. Two assissination attempts, not the first by any means. 4 trials with criminal penalties and 34 'felony' convictions, definitely the first. Yet here we are with President Trump -- again. One of a kind.

We were lucky to have had one George Washington. We'll only have one Donald Trump. And being alive in this term? Priceless.

Posted by: RickZ at May 13, 2025 03:18 AM (gKDq2)

355 It is funny that the last few years of feckless media nonsense and ridiculous witch hints have pretty much dipped Trump into Teflon and thrown in an anti-scratch coating on top for free.

They can't get any traction on anything anymore. Their ability to craft and direct narratives is dead. Nobody cares about their garbage, not because it's garbage per se, but because it's boring. The two assassination attempts didn't exactly help their cause, either, did they?

Something that does bug me is I try to be polite, like I'm talking to a real human. Now, that does bug me about myself.

Sort of like kicking the robot dogs, in of those robot company ads, showing a dog like robot. They were demonstrating how it could right itself and maintain stability by kicking it. That struck me as a kicking a dog.

Oh, this rejoinder. Makes sense to those of us who read it in context at the time!

And the hits just keep on coming:
After slashing its S&P price target 4 weeks ago,

Good old Goldman talked it down as much (nevermore) as they possibly could.

414 Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. I am not a fan of Jung, but damn if that quote of his isn't myself to a T.

52 degrees here at Stately Poppins Manor, with a high of around 70 and cloudy predicted. Another day of 3+ hours of work waiting, which I hate, but at least it means when I finish the day is half over.

Had a night of odd Lovecraftian dreams; even dreamt up a movie plot, except it was a poor man's Burnt Offerings. I've been online looking for a 1-week tiny house rental with no internet or TV, so I can isolate myself and finish my novel. Haven't found the right place yet, but there's time*

I was going to start the day with a picture of a silent actress, but nobody makes me happy to look at right now. See you on the Morning Report.
