So, I thought "Tyrol" was from Game of Thrones, but apparently not. Instead, Google helpfully says The South Tyrol region in Italy, known for its many castles, has been compared to the world of Game of Thrones due to its medieval architecture and historical significance...Brixen, also known as Bressanone, is located in the Eisacktal valley in South Tyrol, Italy, and serves as a gateway to the Dolomites. It is not directly in the Dolomites but offers views of the mountains and easy access to them.
Dolomites, eh? Damn, I might need a Rudy Ray Moorathon with the kids this weekend... Posted by: Moron Analyst at May 12, 2025 09:37 AM (JCZqz) 24

In one of the 1930s novels, we're told that Ellery Queen (the detective character) had a case he called "The Wounded Tyrolean," and that as of 1934 he had been unable to solve it. I wonder if that might have taken place in the actual Tyrol, and if Ellery was right there as the Nazi regime was cranking up. It was still possible for Americans to travel to and from Germany then.
Just a thought inspired by the title here. That structure on the lower left looks like a small dam of some kind. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at May 12, 2025 09:42 AM (omVj0) 45
Love the scene of early spring time and the style. Haseltine was associated with the Hudson River as well as the Luminist schools of art and I enjoy both. The use of light and natural colors to create a mood is wonderful. In this painting the mood is peaceful but the same techniques can be used to portray the power of nature just as effectively. I need to get out my books about both schools.

It is deeply concerning that the rape syndicate not only involved Muslim men, but also included women from the same community. This involvement is particularly troubling, given the widely held belief that women, by nature, would empathize with the trauma and suffering endured by other women who are victims of sexual violence. The participation of these women raises serious questions about how Islamic biases override basic human empathy and moral judgment. Authorities have identified two such girls who acted as intermediaries for Muslim men in facilitating friendships with Hindu girls.

Remember that illegal night club full of illegals in Colorado?
Story gets wilder. SSG Orona-Rodriguez stationed at Ft. Carson was the head of security and had recruited others from the base to act as security. He has been charged with selling 1.5oz of cocaine to an undercover officer. During the raid, 104 illegals were detained. Cocaine, Tusi, Meth, and 12 firearms were also seized. It turns out the LLC that rented out the space is registered to his mother-in-law. The judge has ruled there is enough evidence to keep him locked up, but his defense is trying to portray him as a 'family man.' Posted by: Anna Puma at May 12, 2025 10:07 AM (kibtE) 125
Vahrn is a town -- or, as the Euros call them, a "commune" -- in Italy.
Posted by: Bulg ********** That doesn't seem right in context. There is no town in this painting. I wonder if a Vahrn could be a regional term for 'weir', defined as " "A dam placed across a river or canal to raise or divert the water, as for a millrace, or to regulate or measure the flow." This would explain the structure at the lower left. Posted by: muldoon at May 12, 2025 10:07 AM (HOX+I) Posted by: Sponge - F*ck Cancer at May 12, 2025 10:07 AM (Zz0t1) 127

Muslim rape gangs include women? Color me shockeded. It’s not uncommon for even non-Muslim whorehouses and sex trafficking operations to be supervised by very abusive women (usually former prostitutes). Add in the Muslim death cult religion, and women so subservient they almost willingly submit to rape and abuse in the name of their filthy god, and you have a perfect storm.

Hitler's first meeting with Mussolini concerned the status of South Tyrol. Good thing we have journalistic professionals:
“Not trying to create hysteria,” one worried mom sent out to the others, according to a Sunday report in the Washington Post. "They are in Forest Hills right now in full tactical gear and children are being left behind." The story continued: "As concern grew, neighbors lined the block. An elected official jetted to the Forest Hills playground. Immigration attorneys handed out know-your-rights cards in English, Spanish and Haitian Creole to any nannies they could find." It isn't until after four solid paragraphs of teeth gnashing and hand-wringing that the paper admits that no such thing happened. There were no ICE agents, in or out of full tactical gear. No nannies were targeted. No child was left behind. Wait, wut? Yes, the fifth paragraph consists of a single line negating everything that came before it, "ICE officials later told WaPo that agents had not targeted nannies at that playground nor any other in the District this week... WaPo finally gets around to admitting in the eighth paragraph, "The Post could not independently verify any confrontations between immigration agents and child-care work" https://is.gd/cFLUj5 Posted by: Archimedes at May 12, 2025 10:23 AM (s8j++) 189

This painting reminds me of my boyhood when we moved from Baltimore to a farmhouse near Westminster, Maryland. I was about 8 or 9. We rented the house and had the barn but the fields were still farmed by the owners. My brothers and I were all over the place on that land.
Some funny stories like the time we bought some chickens and opened the boxes to let them out and they just took off running into the woods. We were told later that we were supposed to open them up on the coop. LOL. City slickers. Posted by: MAGA_Ken at May 12, 2025 10:26 AM (Vh9CX) 204

Talk about ghouls. - - - - Yes. About 10 years ago, when I renewed my drivers license, they flipped my organ donor status. I caught it during the review, as they had also managed to mess up my new address. So the clerk corrected it. Well, the address. The organ donor status remained wrong. I had to reject it again to get them to change it back to what it had been before. I was left with the suspicion that they were doing this to a lot of people - it was such an odd thing to be changed, without any discussion, much less permission. And then the refusal to change it back without a lot of pushback from me (and it made the process twice as long as usual). Posted by: Lizzy at May 12, 2025 10:43 AM (ke82b) 247

Speaking of Iran, there was an interesting article in the Morning Report talking about how the Shah's son is now kissing up to the IRGC.

If you want to know the truth in any article it will be found either around the 12th paragraph or nowhere. Ignore headlines. And definitely ignore or vehemently disbelieve the first five or six paragraphs of any "story".
Posted by: ... at May 12, 2025 10:30 AM (M/gGe) I read legacy media stories last paragraph first. Usually makes the beginning of the story make no sense. A career DOD employee taught me to do it when I was about 10 y.o. folding newspapers for my paper route some 45 years ago. That was a pivitol moment in my life. I toured the Art Galary in Old Town this weekend and ran into a painter/collage guy that I found remarkably amusing. His 'Waking up from Anesthesia' paintings made me laugh out loud. His name is Peter Seligman. Check it out at theartleague.org.

I just read the review of P. K. Dick’s “Ubik” from Sunday’s book thread (I was in church). The insight hit me…UBIK is a form of the Tetragrammaton. It even has 4 letters. I am going to have to re-read “UBIK” (It is always all caps in the covers - such as a spray can of UBIK spraying a fine red mist - oh my, there’s another insight right there). Now if you don’t know what the Tetragrammaton is, never mind: read the book. If you do know what it is, never mind: read the book. I am going to re-read the book.

"all over the place on that land" on land like this sounds like the ideal childhood to me. Posted by: AmericanKestrel at May 12, 2025 10:39 AM (PcTds) --------------- As a kid it was great. We were only there for about a year and half. One time my brothers and I played hooky from school on Valentine's day and hid out in the barn eating the candy we were supposed to take to school. Unfortunately the house was old and uninsulated and had a rickety old furnace that started smoking and ended up putting my mom in the hospital for a month from breathing in the fumes. >>Senator Hillary and the push for “recent” organ donations:
“I’m not dead yet…” “Never mind, get on the cart!” - - - - It's a wonderful and necessary thing, but how could it not be as corrupted as every other healthcare service when you hear Hillary is involved? Back in the early 90's we had an elderly family member awaiting an organ, He waited patiently with a pager. Then he was hospitalized and some ugly truths came out, including that they had no intention of giving him the transplant. It was a farce to keep him optimistic while they hoped he would just die already. Posted by: Lizzy at May 12, 2025 11:06 AM (ke82b) 314
I looked up the name and see that Knights of Voitsberg called it Von Vahrn when they acquired the local castle in 1277. What I found interesting is that a small percentage of the citizens speak Ladin as a first language, which is a "mountain language" that came from Latin. There were Italian immigrants that spoke that in the UP.

I see Vahrn is in South Tyrol, in Italy, not far south of the famous Brenner Pass. Not to be confused with Tyrol, which is the Austrian part of Tyrol, which borders South Tyrol on the north.
