Baby Rhen, who is Sharkman Grandson No. 3, and a handsome little Lad, has finally come home from the hospital.
Born 5/6 after my Daughter's typical 40 minute labor, the Boy spent so little time in the birth canal that he wasn't quite caught up with the process when he popped out. Constitutional update:
Another Judge-King has illegally amended the Constitution. This time, finding that the Chief Executive can only tinker around the edges staffing the Executive Branch: Minor staffing level changes only. That, should the Chief Executive wish to fully run the Executive Branch as he sees fit, he must 1) seek approval from Congress and 2) the plan must be confirmed by a Judge-King. Further, employee unions, non-profits, state and local governments must also be consulted first. Naturally, the taxpayer, the voter, the citizen--who expressed their wishes via the election of the President--must be ignored. Trump, if he does not abide by and respect this illegal Amendment, will foment a Constitutional Crisis. Not the illegal order of a self-proclaimed Judge-King. I watched the new Donut Operator video earlier today where a female cop saw herself in a mirror and started shooting at the mirror. I guess it made her look fat or something. Point being, I see a cop of the non-penile variety my expectations are already rock bottom.
Posted by: Ian S. On tv cop shows the female cops outrun the male cops and can throw down a perp like it's nothing. But on the reality cop shows the female cops who try to throw down a perp almost always get tossed around like ragdolls. Posted by: nerdygirl at May 09, 2025 11:08 PM (0Htd1) 180

Didn't read the comments, wasn't that latest F-18 thing a failure of arresting gear (snapped cable? - used to happen)?
Houthis are zero for 2,000 on F-18s, but we got one! USS Gettysburg - which tried for two, but one evaded. In any case, given the scale and tempo of operations, my impression is that this operation was very impressive in terms of safety. One loss to friendly fire eff-up, one to landing equipment failure - out of the hundreds/thousands? of sorties, in a combat zone. Not bad at all. First, it says Veggie Wash is tasteless and odorless, but that's the brand I don't use because it leaves an oily, soapy residue that tastes bad. Fit rinses clean. Secondly, they feature a photo of blueberries implying that the natural whiteish bloom is a harmful residue or wax or pesticide when it is actually naturally-occurring and a sign of freshness. The bloom does not need to be washed off. How am I supposed to have confidence in their claims of quality and efficacy when they make these inaccurate statements? Every time there's an incident like this, Martin-Baker (leading manufacturer of ejection seats) puts up a post saying "X,0XX Lives Saved", referring to their lifetime record of crew surviving crashes using their seats. Sort of like "300 Million Served" at MacDonald's back in the day.
Think the number is 4K+ now. There was another recent incident where a pilot ejected safely (very late) - of course can't recall where. Some small country/air force. Assume those F-18 seats are "zero-zero", meaning they can be effectively used on the deck, and no forward motion. Its set in the 80s and they have a speech by Reagan early on. I read the director included it because he wanted to contrast Reagan's ideas of foreign enemies with evil in small town America. Hell, you can drive all the way to the Arctic Ocean on the Dalton Highway (aka the North Slope Haul Road). Best have plenty of spare everything and supplies if you're headed up that road, though. What Alaska calls a "highway" often bears little resemblance to what a highway would be in the Lower 48. It's essentially all gravel. The fam came up in the early '80s, back when the Alaska Highway was still a thousand mile gravel road. That was a fun trip. Nowadays the Alcan is all paved. As always I watched the first part of the parade (up til Putin's speech and the national anthem, a bit more). Not the entire thing. Russian TV covers similar events in many other cities stretched across all those time zones, I caught part of those. They're all similar, but some of the others have cool vehicles (esp. jeeps, Studebaker trucks) and other things that the Moscow main event doesn't always have.
Putin's speech had annoying background chatter which was Xi's translator, and I think Abbas' as well. Gotta fix that next year. Also, the public address narration of events included constant references to the SVO (special military operation = festivities in Ukraine), many more than previous years as I recall. If the russkis really want to jazz up the event, which already is currently unmatched military ceremonial spectacle, they should have the defense minister and chief of ground forces ride white horses, like Zhukov and Rokossovsky at the original parade in 1945. When the courts micromanage our government, there can never be any "We the People." Posted by: RickZ Roberts is the one forcing the Constitutional crisis. Roberts has now publicly repudiated Trump at least twice. It was Roberts who put the corrupt Judge Boasberg on the FISA court, and Boasberg happily overlooked the FBI's criminal actions in falsifying evidence against Trump administration officials. It is also John Roberts who felt it necessary to fly all the way to the Czech Republic and spend a week in a secure diplomatic compound privately discussing "legal strategy" with the Trump-hating Lawfare architect Norm Eisen. Sorry, Felson, you lost me with # 305. Trump is more than willing to take on the courts. Hell, he made a campaign ad with his Atlanta mugshot. Gimme a break.
Trump is doing what he is Consitutionally allowed to do as The Executive. The Courts are getting way out of their 'balls and strikes' co-equal branch of government lane. Roberts knows this but he is a coward, and that was proven with 404Care's 'it's a TAX!' wimpout. Therein lies the 'Constitutional crisis', a very weak and/or compromised Chief Justice Roberts. What direction is this possible Axis of Evil in the universe? Get your start chart and look at constellation dubbed Coma Berenices (Bernice's hair, I call it). There's a star there, which is, among other names is called Polaris Galactus Borealis, which is Latin for Pole, Galaxy, North. That's the direction of the Milky Way's north pole, perpendicular to the galactic plane. And that's where the possible axis of Evil is, meaning the Milky Way's disc spin axis is aligned with it. Now, some large survey of galactic spin axes seems to indicate a non-random distribution aligned with that direction. They've wondered if that's some artifact, some error in measurement, but it seems to persist. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at May 10, 2025 12:36 AM (w6EFb) 306

I do not like gift when you mean give: you might be giving someone a white elephant that is a burden to them. “Gift” imposes your perhaps mistaken idea of how wonderful your “gift” is. Just give someone a present, let them decide how much of a gift it really is.

We live in the most exceptional country on the planet due to being governed NOT ruled by the most unique political system in history. Fealty to this system has allowed us to reach the pinnacle on which we stand. A fervent defense of it has kept us there throughout our history, the unbroken success record shows this. Our record of continuing the struggle by our predecessors to ensure the Republic endures has become a major part of our heritage. As long as we continue to defend the Republic we will remain exceptional in the world.

About this time last night, some thunderstorms rolled through. We got 0.79" total. There was some distant lightning and thunder going on in the background, nothing too close. And then, sitting right here, there was this loud, strange crack, almost a slapping noise. It sounded like it was inside the house. Nearby lightning strike? Well, it wasn't that loud, and there wasn't a blue flash, and hell, there were no power glitches, the UPS didn't complain, no blinking lights, nothing. What the hell. Lying there, bro-in-law says he saw a blue flash, *right in the middle of the room*, about 3' off the floor. Right in the center of the room, like an arc, in midair. Let's see he's not a trained observer, and my questioning of him, well I wished I would've seen it with my own eyes. I thought at first was this actual ball lightning? I was getting excited. But nope, from his description there wasn't a floating spherical ball, it was just like a little spontaneous arc in the middle of the room. A local blue flash, with that slap/crack sound. If you get Story TV, outta Connecticut, or nearby (to Queens), they show on Friday 8:00 a.m. to Sat. 7:00 a.m. Forged in Fire. Nothing but. Repeats after 12 hours. Also, VICE sometimes has a Forged in Fire run on Saturdays. I find that show pleasantly addicting. You get good at spotting who's going to fail. When you can't pick a winner is when it's really good. I'll look for that. I would love to learn to forge steel. The Damascus blades are beyond beautiful.
Posted by: Sam Adams at May 10, 2025 03:51 AM (X+xvk) I told my friend, it's so uniquely human: Taking rock, or bits of this and that, melting it down and turning it into something useful and not by design lethal, like rakes and hoes. But those Damascus blades. Some of the final round at-home blades are stunning in their beauty and awesome in their lethality. Posted by: RickZ at May 10, 2025 04:00 AM (gKDq2) 429
RickZ,
I love working with metal and love welding. But all of that hammering....That's a younger man's game. Absolutely fascinating to see, though. Would still love to try it. Posted by: Sam Adams at May 10, 2025 04:06 AM (X+xvk) 430

Posted by: RickZ How often is Doug showing signs of serious injury from engaging in martial arts fights involving weapons? Is it just me, or is that guy getting seriously hurt on the regular? Posted by: Sam Adams at May 10, 2025 04:22 AM (X+xvk) 435
I guess shit happens when you're serious, Sam. Doug seems serious. Quiet serious.
